LOL the only reason i wouldnt do this on my server is cause of rho. Heck i send him all the business that asks me for anything, i just cant stand wasting my time making a droid that takes me hours to make and sell for 20k when i can run 20 crates of stims in 5 min and sell them for 45k each.

Makes sinces doesnt it, My doctor is rich beyond belief and how did she do it, crafting rofl.

I sell a few droids here and there when i run a few hundred just to feel like im doing my part to make it starwarsy.

Although im not sure thats the answer,TK, But i have been thinking hard of a way to ruin there new prof as well kinda like they have done to my hopes for a decent prof.

No no, tomorrow's word should be *GONK*.

I'm not sure exactly what your proposal is supposed to accomplish. Ruining the market for the new droids does nothing, really, except spite all of the other Droid Engineers on your server.

Let's take it a step further - I already make most of my money selling resources, so let's just give away ALL droids for free! I could easily produce and give away 1000 droids a week with the money I make selling resources. So there! Now everyone can have any droid they want for free! Whee!

What does that accomplish, aside from ruining the game for many people?

Ill take my stab at allegory 101.

I think the allegory being made isthat giving away free droids wont affect the DE economy becausepeople are not likely to be flockingto the DH profession. That the devs feelgiving us a new profession to sell to is meaningless. That a poor choice is really choice.

I could be wrong

probably am.

But im waiting for Walmart to come to Ahazi, assuming im still a D.E.

...."would prevent a big rush of DE-wannabe's from flooding the profession".

Example:

You're a guy that is looking for that uber combat template. You tried CH and liked it...till it got nerfed.

Then, along came droids. You figure, "W00T! Time to get my uberness on again!! I pwn!!"

You quickly decide that the best way to go is to grind up DE real fast so that you can make your uber droid pets without needing to buy them from some geeky DE purist carebear.

However, along the way, you discover that....."Hey! I can actually make some good credits doing this AND be uber at the same time!!".

You find out, along the way, that no DEs on the server seem to really make/sell DH droids. Curious, you start to try to find out why. Very quickly, you learn about some guy on the server that just gives away any/all DH droids.....free. "Well", you think..."There's not reason to waste time on the stupid crafting thing. I'll just go get my droids".

Multiply the example about by about 1000 or so.

Think about my allegorical message (and warning) again, please. I'm trying to prevent a disaster here...not start one. If you think about it a LOT (like I do), you'll understand that I'm actually protecting the current DEs market, potentially.

If someone steps in and understands the very hidden point I'm trying to make here, I'll be happy.

Why does everyone have to be so alarmist here? Have we no truly creative and progressive thinkers that have figured out where my little drama leads?

Please....say that there's ONE of you that understands.

I believe i understand your point. At first i thought, like several posters thought, that it was a some form of spiteful attempt aimed at causing the new profession harm in some way.

After considering it though, i see that this isn't the case. I think your motives here are entirely a form of self protection, and the protection of your profession from the massive influx of "leet dood" type players, and the following destruction of the droid economy you feel would follow. You think that by provide free droids to all new DH's,these playerswouldn't bother taking DE, and would simply take your free droids and use them in combat.

Perhaps your hoping that DH will become so powerful that it will not only be flavor of the month, but become the dominant profession in the game. Then, as is always the case, it will become nerfed and reworked again. After the nerf, manyof the leet players will leave, going to some other flavor of the month, leaving the droid community as free of this type of player as it was before the DH. This is one outcome that i could see happening. Is this, and the protection of the droid market what your driving at perhaps?

Yes...they looked at the 'book', conceptually, instead of what was inside the cover.

Yes...that's basically it.

Well...I'd hope that they wouldn't take DE. I wouldnt' see much need for them to waste their time when they can get the items for free.

No. In my mind, there isn't SUPPOSED to be a "dominant" profession.

Primarily, my concern was the latter. I don't want to see 2000 DEs running about just so they can make their own DH droids (and ruin the market by undercutting current DEs).

Screw looking inside books... covers are all you need to see when you're burning them!

But it takes an average of a week for anyone to grind up DE. two days if they are sick about going at it, but even then it'll be another 3 days of gathering parts before they can start whipping out droids. And even then they'll need to know what they're doing, as DE has a rather large learning curve to it. And even then, the initial attempts would only be experimentation to gain the knowledge needed to function, so it'd probably be another 3-5 days of hard production to get all the parts in place for mass manufacturing.

With this amount of time, those already in place (those poor beat-up old DEs who have actually endured the hardships) would be the only ones in place to actually sell the droids. The economy would be drastically imbalanced towards those current DEs for that first week or so. All I'm saying is let them have their moment of retrobution and high-up sales for that one week. In the end all the L33T D00Dz will be really interested in is actually being DH, not DE, anyway.

Then, once the economy does start going downhill (in your current position you have the bird's-eye view), you can start flooding the market once again. Though I don't know if "preserving capitalism by destroying capitalism" will really work. Look what happened to the holocron market when the Devs did this exact scenario over Xmas. before the holiday Holocrons sold regularly for 5 million. When the holocrons were released en masse the price suddenly dropped to 650k and stayed there till today, over a month later. There have been no signs of recovery, and if it wasn't for the fact of the announcement that holocrons will be useless, I don't think they would have come back up again.

By doing the same I think it's more crippling in the long run than putting up with a few quick-grinders that sprout up every now and again to make some droids then leave the profession again. Justifying in the name of 'fun' quickly eliminates the chance of fun for the entire DE group, if only to make the situation more enjoyable for the outsiders and the flavour-tasters-of-the-month. Given the choice I'd rather the DE communitywin than to have them.

Wood,

Allegory. Symbolic. Making a point.

That's all this is.

I'm not actually going to be doing this. I might well not even BE a DE when this all goes down.

I know that the in-flooding of DE competition is something we're all mostly concerned about. This plan seemed to be a way to actually do something about that had a chance to work.

Maybe I'll just go be a Chef and be done with it...

Don't try and pass your big words off on me I know what you're secretly up to, what with all those droid parts, that cheap 8mm film stock, and the constant demand for baddisco music!

When I need bad disco music, I know just the fish to come to...

Actually, this post turned into a big old basket of insanity. None of it will actually occur...I was just insane at the time. It made sense to try and posting something about how to save current DEs from the flood...that's all.

I understood that much of it, at least. It's not what anyone wanted, though - pretty much everyone who has posted has been in favor of some sort of improvement to Droid Engineer, but your allegory would have decapitated the entire process. I suppose to some it might seem like "staying the course" is better than the proposed changes - I know I have felt that way sometimes here - but I really don't have a problem with the Droid Handler profession being separate. In fact, I believe that keeping it separate helps protect the current Droid Engineer market - how many people would want to grind up TWO professions just to get droids that are less powerful than creatures? I can see people grinding up one profession if they were to get everything in one package, but not two.

So, to get my own thoughts straight around this concept...

One or more DEs sabotage the (run) D/M/C profression by giving away combat droids.

This kills the market for other DEs to sell combat droids, leaving them with what they have today.

These disgruntled DEs then come back to the forums and complain we have no DE content.

The devs endure 6 months of compaints and eventually add real DE content.

Hmm.. The downside is that you become the most well-known and despised DE on your server.

What's not to like?

Mobreen.
