Thread: Get rid of Droid Batteries

I'll see if I can swing by, not sure, the wife has some plans for me today.

I need to be clear about something, especially for the people who didn't read the entire post. First, I guess I could have titled it better, I tried to be catchy, so people would read it.

1. I have nothing against Droid Batteries, they can be inconvienent at times yes, but I don't have a problem with them.

2. This post isn't about Droid Batteries really it is about a form of Droid decay that would affect Combat and Non-Combat Droids.

3. There are better ideas for Droid Decay, such as us just replacing worn out modules. However, those would require a drastic reworking of how Droids work. I feel that DE has gotten a decent amount of love already, I find it doubtfull that we will get the massive time it will take for a total reworking of the Droid system. So I feel instead of lobbying for the "perfect" idea we will probably not get, we may be better off lobbying for a "good" idea that is more easily implemented. Possibly such as this one. With my system 3 relatively minor things would need changed.

4. If my idea we implemented, many people may get upset, possibly saying screw Droids alltogether. THIS is why I said to remove the need for Droid Batteries. That way the feeling would be. "Well it sucks that I need to replace my Droid every few months, but at least I don't need to deal with Batteries or buying them." Giving something back to Droid users.

5. Yes you would lose money selling Droid batteries, but you would make it up with Droids. Know that while your vendor may be stocked, so is the Bazaar, so are Guild equipment houses, and so do people make them for themselves. Right now many people have other places to go for batteries, but they can only get Droids from a DE.

Totlich, your 100% right, properly maintained, a car can last forever. Yet the reason that people buy newer cars is because when a car hits a certain age, you are spending more on maint then you would on a new car. It is often cheaper to replace it. Should Droid customers have a choice? Absolutly, but then again were hitting a 100% change in how Droids work.

Crap, it posted on me for some reason. I really wish somebody would tell me how to edit.

I honestly feel that Droid Engineer is a crafting profession, while I don't have a problem with some sort of repair being added, I DO have a problem with that being the only constant stream of business for a Droid Engineer. Plus a "repair system" does nothing to reward those who make better droids. Most people will just get their Droids fixed by a friendly DE or their guild DE, their Droids may suck, but they can repair just fine.

hmm some, i have a better idea of what you are talking about,.,. but comming from someone that kept his first droid untill just 2 weeks ago,, i got him in august.. it was very sad : ( me and him had made 10's of 1000's of items, to have to lose him would be bad...

I do love your idea about module decay,, that would rock.

Though D-pad and storage should not decay.. to big of a change to lose somthing in that.. but the other modules,, sure let um poof away. Crap my R2's crafting station just becambe non fuctional,, hmm well time for a trip to a DE to get a new one. Yea i guess it would need some revamping not sure how hard that would be. I would think clusters would have to be taken out though cause modules would dacay at differnt rates. But the idea of no more clusters would eb music to my ears. Droids are a real pain in the arse unless you have all the stuff premade in crates, but making those clusters is jsut such a pain in the ass, combat clusets, non combat, i could make like 20+ pluss clusters to use in my more poular modules, but then thats another +20 crates on top of the nearly 100 i already have droid parts are a huge invenotry killer as it is, taking out clusters would make soo much since.

No more cluster i would think adding a new module to a droid would be pretty easy from a code perspecitve i would think?

im guessing it would add a new schem like reconstuct droid, take what the droid already has, click on the droid, in the schem would have some reorces Plus a empty socket or 2 put the module in you want, build, and poof it adds that to your droid.

This would also asume that you would have the abitly to take a droid from D-pad form to a dropable item form which many De have wanted all along. not sure if this is a viable option but it would be consistant of how other crafting is done where parts effect finaly bulids.

I know it has been discussed in these boards about some droids spending HAM on activity costs (Such as Dance/Playback modules)

What if the more commonly used modules did HAM cost, or even wounds. This would give the need for Reconstruction and Repair tools. And if a Droid drops to 0, just like speeders, it poofs.

You gotta feed pets food. Thus you gotta feed droids batteries (or recharge them is the right term).

What kind of unrealistic move would that be to remove the Battery charge from Droids? I mean that's like saying:

"Bah I'm p1ssed because I have to feed my pets all the time, they can't stop whinning they are hungry" ...

SWG isn't your average RPG... as a matter a fact all those Final Fantasy crap games should be called adventure games... SWG you actually Role Play yourself in a virtual world. Count yourself lucky you yourself as a player don't even have to eat food to survive! Just the fact you have to feed your pets and droids is nothing compared to games like Ultima Online!

Maybe somebody's already mentioned this - I confess I didn't read every word of this thread. I've seen several times though that droids with med mods work just fine witha deadbattery. Not true. As a doctor, I often wander about town healing people. When the battery runs out, no more healing is possible. I can craft all day long, true, but I can't heal.

Vood, if you read the post, you will see that this whole idea isn't about people hating Batteries.
