Your AT-ST will also only attack factional targets now (or at least it should). AT-ST's also are not repairable, droids are. Droids *can* be practically given away....AT-ST's arn't (I will admit, I don't know the faction point cost of them at the moment since the new rules went in). Even then, AT-ST's have been argued as a "unfair advantage" in some circles.

Comparing a droid to a AT-ST is a apples -> oranges comparison.

Well, you learn something new every day. I guess I never tried factional support troops on non-factional missions when testing theGCW revamp. I guess I"ll crawl back under my rock now.

I got a question for you, Jenden:

Why isn't there much experimentation in this profession as it is for armor smiths, weapon smiths etc?
Don't know if this is qualified as an issue, but I think it would help many DEs if they were able to use experimentation to build better and better droids.
On the other perhaps droid engineers are happy about the present experimentation level?

I could just be rambeling, but since I am a bit curious of this bit I feel I must ask.

Heya Jenden, going to chime in with some new issues.

A large portion of the droid we got from publish 9 are now next to worthless.

-Maint droids arn't needed.

-Barker Droids are still somewhat usefull, but have been replaced with the NPC actors, beause they are a lot less of a pain in the butt.

-Harvesting droids used to be one of our biggest sellers, but since you Harvest more merely by being ina group, they don't move at all anymore. You actually harvest worse with the droid then in a group.

I think there are too few elements to make a complete new skill "droid handler", too few droids, they cannot be trained, they cannot be tamed, etc....

I think the solution would be by hybridcertification

example: having at least one combat skill and DE xx4x you get the Droideka certification

this isjust an example, some of DE would be needed because of droids knowledge and some combat skill would be required for avoiding non combat characters to go on combat having only the droid

Not sure if you have seen the sneak preview of RotS action figures, but R4-G9 doesn't like any R4 unit I have ever built.

It has a rounded dome, that is gold in color, with bronze trim. It looks much more like an R2 unit, then it does anything else.

The more work that gets done on the prequals, the more ol' Lucas Films goes against standardized canon information.

None the less, I still have one of these little gems sitting on top of my monitor at home. With all of the Droid action figures that my girlfriend has bought for me in the last two years, I will soon need a bigger monitor to stand them on top of.

  1. Droid Need/Usefulness: Droids, on the other hand, are a convenience and possibly a small bonus, but never really a necessity.

They are often an annoyance:

They cant keep up with people on speeders or mounts. Many models cant even keep up with people on foot (like LE repair driod which can barely keep up with a rifleman crawling).

They cant be called if you get agro from any source.

They take a long time to call when not in city or camp even when you dont have agro(15 seconds its an eternity when people are waiting on you)

They cant be stored if you (or they) have agro from any source, and they cant be stored for 60 seconds after they clear agro. In fact, if you die and your droid catches agro AFTER you have cloned, you still cant store or call it until it dies.

They often get stuckin strange placeswhen following you.

- Of course all these are issues which all pet types have which makes them difficult to use if your not running solo.

I'm putting together a proposal for droid decay as thats the only way I can think of to solve our number 1 issue. If you have a proposal for some other system that solves that problem please post it as well. The more ideas to discuss the better.

Okay, so you posted just 4 minutes after YodaMac, and therefore *maybe* didn't read his post....... specifically:

------------------------------------------------

"I HAVE proposed a "speeder-like" maintenance requirement to bring "droid upkeep" into the game. Those who use them most, pay the most to keep them working. (whether they pay the "bank" or DE's for some sort of "maintenance kit", I don't really care... I'm not a DE to make credits, just droids)"

------------------------------------------------------------------------

While making credits does keep the business going, I agree with YodaMac here, a maintenance requirement versus outright Droid Decay.

One of the main reasons a lot of DE's want decay isn't directly for more credits, there are easier ways of increasing their profit margins. They want to sell more droids. Whether that be because they enjoy selling droids, the fact that when a customer buys a new droid it gives them a good opportunity to try out a new combination, or they just want to get rid of some excess stock...

Hey Jenden, moving rapidly to the top of the list for me is the fact that recently many of our droids have been rendered useless.

On a side note that just popped into mind when reading the list again...droid decay is a great way for us to get repeat customers for those who like to use their droids. But on the other edge of the sword, do you guys feel there is enough value in having a droid for people to want to hassle with a decay system? Will it end up being cheaper and more efficient for them to ignore droids completely? Something to consider perhaps.

The volume of business is very low, I agree. I am curious though, how much of it is due to decay and how much of it is do to the fact that players really don't value durable droids. I can sell seeker droids, arakyd droids, unprogrammed droid chips and flight computers all day long, but how often do you see a player with a droid companion for combat, harvesting or any other function other than for Doc (read buffing) and entertainers for effects? And at that how many entertainers do you really see with effects droids???

The main question: Do we really need decay or do we need to add more value to droids for new sales.

I would really be intertested in knowing how many players actually OWN durable droids and of those players how often do they actually USE droids.

I've been a DE since launch and other than the initial probot packs I really haven't seen a "Killer Application" for droids that would really make players really want them. JtL helped somewhat but that is only for players when they are in space, what about the ground game? It appears to me that they are still pretty limited and there is little player enthusiasm for them.

For example, the biggest component for most players in this game is the combat system. Now, droids are pretty wimpy already when it comes to combat now add the fact that they can't keep up with players in vehicles and they cannot enter the vehicle to be able to keep up. So I am going to wait around for a droid that doesn't add very much to combat anyway? Risk being aggro'd while I wait for my droid?

If you are talking sales then you are talking aboutaffecting theplayer economy. Basic Economics states thatin order to sell something the product or service has tofulfill a NEED for a player. Aside from being cute, they really have marginal use for players and they find them more hassle than they are worth. As a DE, it would be really awesome if more players NEEDED droids to accomplish things in the game. BH's need seekers and arykids. Pilots need flight computers and astromechs. Docs WANT droids with Med6 modules for the best buffs. There are alot of other classes out there that can just ignore and easily live without droids.

Botom line: Droids need to add more value to the player experience and they need to be easier to use if you want DE to be a real option as a crafting class.

My two cents.

Jenden,

since CU there's no more composite armour segments - what do we do about droid armour, the schematics still want a comp armour segment. do we use an assault armour segment instead ? Or is droid armour now completely useless ?

Working on getting an answer to this. Currently droid armor is not affecting the droid at all, so the fact that we can't make 5 and 6 is something of a moot point.
