Thread: Droid Report: What's being done about this....Invasion?!?
Jemelby,
I must say I disagree with the majority of the people here and think you are spot on, but it really doesn't matter one way or the other, we aren't getting any combat droids in the near future. The community was asked to decied and we chose Utility. Now we need to focus our efforts on making sure the utility we get is worth while. We can't all lose hope yet, I mean I was a bio engineer before the patch and I've seen how far the profession has come. For a more recent example look at Chef. If we can get together and get the Dev's to give us that kind of love, we may actually be a profitable profession.
As far as your challenge: "He" wasn't really owned by anyone but isn't IG-88 a combat droid? I've really only seen the movies and read a couple of books so I'm not as well versed heck for all I know IG-88 is just a tall funny looking alien ![]()

I just wanted to make my position clear from the get go. I have been a big fan of Star Wars for years. I have digested virtually every movie and book devoted to the topic. Across the entire expanse of the extended Star Wars Universe, there is one enuring theme. Droids. Star Wars is a story about people, politics, planets, space and droids. Everything that exists in the Star Wars universe revolves around these principal props. And not one of them has had the endurence of the droids. They are part of almost every facet of the Star Wars Universe.
Now... Answer me true. How many individual characters in the Star Wars Universe have you ever seen with a personal combat droid?
Droids fill one of two primary roles in the Star Wars Universe:
Droid Armies (not indiviual combat droids) which serve a government or faction. How many people playing the game can claim they are a government? I expect there to be a few tounge-in-cheek responses to that about player cities or guilds, but the truth is, no one individual can pretend to be worthy of a Droid Army. In the books and movies, this type of droid was an "extra." A prop to carry the story line. I challenge anyone to come up with a licencedmovie or book precedent for personal combat droids (other video games and comics withstanding)
Service. These are the droids I want. Servants and machines that do things that humans and aliens can't or won't do. Droids designed to ease the burden of daily life in SWG. Droids that are "usefull." That's what personal droids are in the Star Wars Universe.
There are enough different ways to kill things in SWG. Why add one more? Why take SWG one step closer to every other run-of-the-mill MMPORPG? SWG has the potential to be different. Fresh. Exciting. The friction level goes up with this statement be cause that means fresh, exciting code. It would seem that the developers set out to make the same game that every other MMPORPG already is, and just dress it up with Star Wars trapings. Let's step outside the box!
I have the little booklet right here next to me. Date is 1983. Saddly it is based off of a comic book, so I do not think that it fits your challenge.
All of that being said. I do agree with you J'vee. I don't like the idea of everyone and their mother walking around with a deadly droid.

Aye, you are correct TK. My apologies, but that just hit a nerve.
Welp so far the Droid Invasion for me is interesting...didnt like that fubar-ing of my cluster modules..but whats a Rodian to do.
The ONE thing I still REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY want is the ability to pull out more than one droid at a time. They dont need to be both combat droids I'd be happy with one combat and one non combat. I just wanna do lil parades....is that so wrong to ask?

You must not have access to the same boards that I do.

Respectfully,
I played eq since beta and stopped about a year ago. Yes the game is totally different but atleast one thing I liked about EQ betterthan star wars is simple. First EQ it seems the develpers cared towards the players more. Yea their were nerfs but not a whole revemp of a profession and have it still broken. No broken profession stats they were correct and accurate. When something needed fixing it took at most 2 weeks(sometimes). Here we have to wait for a major publish to happen. EQ was patched every week to 2 weeks not every 2-3 months. Items in game with stats worked and were usefull. Here we have items thathave skill related stats that are no longer used. Items we cant craft beacuse ofa item was dropped in beta or week one and is no longer ingame. Look how long it took to get Bh droids working.
Seriously the devs need to put the pedal to the medal man. I know some of them were from the EQ dev team so whats the problem here? Yea I know the game is new but skip the small new content fix the old first. If you send out something broken fix it fast not 3 months from now. Same company runs both game cant see why you cant treat both the same. Lets see how long it takes for this to get fixed. If its Pub 8 bye bye profession I enjoyed playing.
Yes, I have to agree, This patch is a weak, I mean just look at the droid invasion wallpaper and you cannot help but feel cheated.
I was given DE as a Holo profession and decided, hey why not hold onto it for a bit, see what the new patch brings. Maybe make a bit ofcash along the way and then go back to the grind.
So I came into here Monday night and looked at the posts from the test center players. The only word to describe this droid invasion is a "JOKE", OK so I look at a wallpaper picture with Clone War droids and I get a R2 with nerfed armor and a saw.
Come on. Hardly any one uses CL10 pets as it is, And at least the BE's can make these now so they are somewhat respectable.Alas the components, crafting time, and rare resources need to make one stinking Droid with 1600 HAM 0AR rating and 40% resists (becuase of a bug, should really be 20% from what i read ) that last 5 minutes. Whats the point.
Also I knowI wasMDE for a mere few daysbut they should have really make thisproffession requireMaster Artison, I mean you need the MA components to make anything worth a darn. You can do almost nothing without the GP module. It just adds to the farce, you work on DE then realize you need these module to make almost anything. Either move those module to novice DE or be fair enough to let new DE's know they really need Master Artison to make descent droids. I mean if I planned out my skillpoints then found I need 3 more rows of skills and Master Artison to make advanced components I would be livid. Its simply like selling a car and claiming it has AC even thoguh the compressor is busted. Sure it has AC but its pretty much worthless.
Ok, I understand that balance is vital to the game. I am all for it but this patch should have brought three things
1. New droids that look like combat droids.
2. A new DH proffesion that could use powerful droidscomparable tothe CH profession.Alsothe DE having the ability to craft some darn fine droids for the DH. (I sure believe a lot of people would have enjoyed this. Imagine being able to control two or 3 Combat droids and watch them hammering on a Rancor or Krayt like a CH can do with pets, now that would be fun.)
3.Droids that where at least comparable with BE crafted pets. I mean the other day I hear a BE telling me he had a CL10 Pet with over 4k ham available. (true or not I cannot confirm but why spam it if you can't do it)
So why does it take far more to create far less now????
I took me 3 minutes after logging in to drop MDE and start back the holo grind.
I will say in all fairness, things haveindeed been getting better, and though i am indeed flaming this patch hard, I have seen many good changes the last few months.
But this patch is pathetic, a total waste of time. The best part of it is the ability to move things up and down in my house now. The DE community got the serious short end of the stick here.
Look out here comes R2-D2 with his saw out LMAO.............................. please. You might as well have added duct tape to the game and let anyone use it to strap a CDEF rifle to there old droids.

Bingo.
Furthermore, combat droids are not a good way to give Droid Engineers a thriving market. Why not, some will scream? Because combat droids don't decay either. Once everyone buys whichever combat droid they want, they're done buying. Just like the complaint you always here about utility droids.
In order to improve the market for Droid Engineers, we need more disposable products. We need more "charged" droids like the Seeker and Arakyd Probe Droids that Bounty Hunters currently use. We need Droid Powerups that have a more significant effect than the only one that currently exists - the Droid Battery. (Note to Devs: Powerups should improve their target, not be required for their target to be functional.)
There's nothing inherentlywrong with Droids providing combat effects - many people have posted good ideas along those lines. But, just like utility effects, they need to be disposable (or renewable) so that Droid Engineers have a lasting market for their products.
I have this on my list for items to bring up when some of the current nuttiness is past us...

I agree that there needs to be a better decay system in place for both combat and utility/service droids.

Respectfully,
Hope I don't get banned for this......
I just had a thought. All us DE's are choked right? We all feel decived right? We would all love to punish those who mislead us right? I mean we are the customers right? And most of us long hauler's are near burnt out......so.....
You always hear about folks saying "I am quiting the game! That's it ! I love star wars but I'm done! This game is bugged out and the Dev's don't listen". But honestly we all know (as we can smell our kind) that in the end, spazzing aside, we simply won't quit something that has so much potential and thatwe worked(and hoped)so hard at. SO how bout this. A realistic boy-cot ; WE ALL TAKE ONE PARTICULAR MONTH OFF. Thats right. We organise, chose a month and cancel our accounts for that single month. I mean Geez we could really use a break. All this dissapointment and endless anticipation is a wee bit frustrating for somthing we pay to do. I mean this sorta thing may really make em think and hit em (SOE)hard, in the only thing that matters to em, the pocket book. Class action boils and goils. You live in a democracy! Get into it! We can make a differance. Money talks.
I'm shure we could fuel a serious revolt and harrness all this flaming for somthing useful.
PS I don't blame the Dev's. I mean they would love to double there staff. But that fact is the Exec's call the shots not the artists and craftsmen. The Dev's prolley hate giving us smoking mirrors as much as we hate receiving em.

What I really can't understand is why the Devs removed the AR2 rating from level 6 armour. Before that my probot was barely usefull for me. Now, even with the "enhanced" HAM and damage, it is completly useless for me when trying to do a dificulty 12 mission (the highest I can get) or maintaining my harvester. And the repair kits don't really help during fights, usefull AFTER a fight to get the droid into working condition again, but that's it about them.
