Thread: Top 5ish Droid Engineer Issues
I have been looking at the droid schematics. There are several that have the expermintation quality based on quality and conductivity. This is fine if you can use copper, but several schematics require steel, which might have a high quality but never a high condictivity. This means that we can never get to the 90% + level for the component.
I think all the droid schematics should be reviewed so that it is possiable to get into the 90%+ area on components if you get the right resources.
The droid storage unit is effected by quality and conductivty which makes no sense. It is a metal shelf.

I put this list together for another post, but you might consider incorporating some of these into your new modules list ![]()
- A survey module that allow enhances the range of the survey tool.
- A survey droid (with a master artisan cert) that can actually be set to go out and find resources - maybe with four different modules, one for each type of resource.
- A mining module that acts as a mobile small hopper.
- A harvestor recovery module for BLL's that allows the BLL to go and retrieve resources from harvestors.
- A module for the BLL's that allows them to move houses and harvestors without needing to fully re-deed them.
- A jukebox module that allows dancers to dance outside the cantina.
- A public address module that allows musicians to play music outside the cantina.
- A spray module that enhances mask scent.
- A specialized chef module that allows better percentages on chef food (better than a standard food/chem station)
- A sewing module that allows tailors to make clothing that provide some minimal bonus - such as a tiny armor bonus, or the lowest possible level of BE type enhancements.
- An animal anesthisation module that gives the BE's a better chance of sampling DNA
- Have the surgical droid with medical modules in it operate at a +20 bonus, and have the cap be at 130% as opposed to 110% as it is now.
- A targeting module that allows marksmen to sight their targets with a +10% bonus to hit.
- A distraction module that distracts a hand-to-hand combatants opponent, reducing their defence by -10%.
- A subsonic projection module, that helps CH's tame creatures.
- A style center droid, that gives animage designer more options
- A slicing module that improves the chances of a slice working
- A slicing module that allows for some choice in what slice you get
- A tactical module to add to the squad leader group bonuses
I read the “Droid Handler” proposal and I feel as though this isjust adding insult to injury, we’ve been sucker punched so much that many of my fellow DE have changed professions and now I see they are going to kick us repeatedly while we are down.
What really creeps me out is the majority of those supporting the “Droid Handler” idea where not even alive when “A New Hope” was released in 1977. (And yes I watched it when it was released to the theater in 1977)

Here is my second suggestion in the form of a suggestion. If you do make a “droid handler” or whatever you plan to call the equivalent, at least make it so DEs have access to it easily. So maybe to be a droid handler you have to be a master marksman or a master droid engineer, but the MDE would get a diminished skill tree and distribute those skills in droid engineer. Does this make any since at all? Basically this; since a DE has to get 2 skill groups from artisan to be a DE, if it is re-orged that way, and then 4+ master to be a Master DE, take 2 of the skill groups away from droid handler if you are a MDE, and distribute those skills throughout the DE tree. Another option would be just make it a branch from master droid blueprints. So people have to at least know how to build a droid to be able to use the much more complex, more finely tuned, faster running, higher powered battle droids. Honestly I think the second option is better. Although it would make a 3rd tier class. But if you are going to make it something a droid engineer wouldn’t have any advantage getting. You really should make DE easier to get so we can get rid of Master artisan, and all of the other crap we won’t need so we can get droid handler without having to give up everything else.
My problem is this. When I started this game and found out I could be a droid engineer, I had a grand plan to build a droid army and occupy towns and cities. I would lay waste to my enemies without having to fire a weapon my self. “Clean hands and dirty droids.” I said to myself. I was so disappointed when I found out the best thing I could build was a probot which had about the same hit points I do, and I could probably take one out pretty easily with the Nim Carbine I have. Plus One Droid At A Time?! You have to be kidding me… 10 at least. Anyway. I would hate to have to give up droid engineer to follow my dream of hearing “Rodger, oppression populous”
Thanks for your time. Sorry if I rambled.

Slicing Module This module would assist a Smuggler when ever slicing weapons or armor, by granting the user a percentage based chance to picking the outcome of the slice. This module could be level based and follow the standard level module progression. At level 1, the module could grant a Smuggler a 0 -10% chance of successfully choosing the out come of any slice made on weapons and armor. The percentage at each level is based on the quality of the module produced. A Level 6 Slicing module would allow for a 0 - 60% of success at choosing the outcome of a slice.
Scouting Module The Scouting Module would give Scouts information on an organic resource, without actually harvesting the resource. The Scout could target a creature and order their droid to scan it. The player would then be able to examine the creature an find out what type of resource could be harvested, what the stats are on the resource, and how long the resource has been present. This module would also benefit Bio-Engineers, by giving the BE information about the DNA that can be harvested from each creature. This would need a balancing mechanism such as a time limit between each command.
Sampling Module The Sampling Module would allow a PC the ability to ascertain the stats of any given resource in their direct vicinity. The Sampling module would list the stats of a chosen resource and the length of time that it has been present. It would not give the density of the resource, nor would it list resources that are not located in the spot that command was given. This would need a balancing mechanism such as a time limit between each command.
Personality Chips Not a new module, but a revamp of the existing droid Personality chips. Droids with personality chips installed could give you information about different POIs, depending on what personality chips is installed. For instance, a droid with the Prissy personality chip could offer historical information about a POI, but only when it is near the POI. This information could be a spatial text, or the idea that I like, it could create a next document that is stored in your datapad and can be traded, or stored in a droids data storage module. The document could offer Extended Universe information about the POI. The Slang personality could offer underworld information about the POI, the Worshipful personality could offer regional information that could relate to ruling bodies, the Stupid personality could offer rumors, and the Geeky personality could offer DEV notes on the actual design of the POI. This would give the personality chips a purpose and at the same time add content to the game in the form of EU information.
Merchant Module The Merchant module would allow a Novice Merchant set a droid on patrol in a city and sell a limited number of wares, based on something like the Item storage module, and leave it to its own accord. Anyone would then have the ability to open the droids radial and discover a Browse Vendor option that would allow you to see what items the droid has for sale. Balancing issues could include power costs, or a droid maintenance fee.
GCW Spy Personality Chip Available to only a factioned DE through a recruiter, the Spy Personality chip could be installed into a Converse style droid and sold to someone of the opposite faction. When ever the droid is called out, a chat channel opens for the DE that crafted the droid and spatial text is displayed for the DE to read. A MDE of the opposite faction can detect the spy chip by simply /examining the droid and then is given the option to remove the chip, without harm to the droid. The chip could be added to any existing personality chip schematic.
GCW Anti-Detection module Available to only a factioned DE through a recruiter, the Anti-Detection module would allow for someone and their droid to appear as a neutral on radar, while declared. Direct line of sight, or targeting, would reveal the PC and droid to be declared faction members.
Personally, I think this needs to go a little further and they need to allow anyone to use droid customization kits. When I was a DE, I couldn't get people to let me paint their droids for FREE because of the short customization. If anyone could paint them, and the life-span of the painting was upped to around 100 calls, then DE's would be able to sell customization kits on the market.
5 Customization lifespan is extremely too limiting. All it takes is 20 calls of a droid and the custom colors fade. Many wish to do away with the color fade, or at least make the lifespan on all droids much, much higher.
Wow, nice listing, however i'm shocked that you neglected to mention one of my biggest pet peeves that affects everyone, not just DE's. Brand new droid. Never been customized. Take it out of the package and what does it do? It complains that it's customization is fading/has faded... every single time. Any idea how annoying that is?
Armor modules 1-4 are useless. Probably Lvl 5 as well.
The nestable Cluster Socket was the only redeeming "feature" of DE and of course was fix before all the game play/profession crippling bugs. Way to go devs. If nothign else, add the nesting back and increase the chance of failure exponentially per nesting. Show me any advanced technical profession in the world where people aren't trying to cram more and better things into smaller spaces. It seemed natural to me. *shrug*
Droid Handlers... never read up on this but it sounds... dumb. Just like number of FACTION "Pets" controllable being determined by CREATURE Handler instead of FACTION RANK. (That's CAPS for Devs incase they really do scan this.) Stupidest move they've made in long time, IMHO. Again, common sense (along with the laws of physics) doesn't apply to SWG universe, but it should be clear that a Master DE would be smart/skilled enough to handle at LEAST two droids at a time. And again, I have no idea whose brain child it was, but FACTIONAL pets should not prevent my ability to call a droid. That's just plain ridiculous as well.
And one final comment: How is it that BE's can grind out 15K Beasts, yet the biggest baddest thing us DE's can make is 830 HAM robut that gets beat up easily and has non-functional armor? (Take a 40% armor probot and zero armored probot. Which one get's beat up by chubas first? Both dies at same time, from same chuba. Please note the usage of sarcasm here, do not flame me on logistics.) So, BE's can make critters for ONE class, the Pokemon Masters, yet they get better ability to make useful itmes than theDE's that could make useful items for ALL SWG citizens? Makes alot of sense. Yup.
Also, spawning of resources required for some of the higher end modules could be a tad more generous. Sure they are supposed to be rare and harder to find, but i can't even get low quality resources on my server. =/ But like a true SWG geek I am, i will retain DE in the hopes that upcomming publishes fix many long standing bugs, and add much needed changes/content for an otherwise neglected profession.
