Wow, talking about making up for in lengthfor what youlack in depth, but hey! Flame on! Obviously I'm wrong seeing as I am apparently young, niave, stupid, and all those other things you'd like to label me as. And the next time a profession that makes millions of credits comes on here to offer their wise, all-knowing,insightfulopinion about DEs, the universe, and my own personageI'll just bow and accept it. I guess I just don't have the mentality to see beyond myself and help out my fellow DEs.To use thepopularAmerican idiom:"my bad."

Oh, forgot to mention: Smile! You're on Signature Camera

Yeah, how much would it hurt to let DEs have a CL16 pet? Well, except that then as an architect I'd expect a pet too. I mean, what would it hurt to have a CL16 attack BLL? Although then I'd feel kind of left out as a Weaponsmith. I mean, I can make all these cool weapons but can't use them very well. So I think it'd be fair to give a Weaponsmith a certification to use every weapon he makes.

What were you saying again?

Crap, I'm sorry guys, browser wigged out.

Where the community needs to be up to speed on and 'heard' is, what we are dealing with right now. We need to foccus our attention on the changes that Development is cooking up for us, so that when somthing hits the next publish, we aren't all standing around with steam comming out of our ears, because we didn't address concerns that we have with the current issues on our plate, or didn't take the time to understand or work out what they have in mind.

Specifically,

When they mention experimentation.. is it going to affect things other than experimentation for HAM and abilities on a Probot? I beleive it will become more important, but how widely is it going to affect us, and are people with huge stockpiles of components going to be left in the lurch, or will they be safe using new components (for basic every day droids)

The notes we got mentioned that the combat modules would stack, up to 6 in a droid, for maximum combat efficency. Is this because of the way they are modeling the combat modules, and adjusting current schematics to agree, OR is this because they have found a way to add additional combat capability, but are shoe-horning it into the general module sockets, leaving us with the top 2-3 'attack' droids being of the Astromech nature? I realize they have a bunch of work ahead of them on this to make it work, but short of my Astromech turning into a CIWS Phalanx unit that the Navy uses, I don't want my top combat capable droids being R2 on steroids. I'd like to hear some more gory details.

Keep pestering them (nicely but firmly) on things like the Repair module not working in a Repair chassis droid. I could care less about it working in a power droid, because as I've said before, the power droid has no appendages to affect any repairs, short of Jedi droid mind tricks or osmosis. If it's a repair droid, lets get it so that it can repair things, especially now that we're going to have repairs as an increasing source of income and requests.

There's a lot being addressed right now, and while I (and mostanyone else I suspect) would always like to see more, I'm happy to see the profession get its time on the table, and am looking forward to many of the changes comming out. While I too would have liked to see combat droids, I would not have wanted them jacked into the game on top of a foundation that had holes in it; it simply makes for a house that will eventually wobble and fall over. They are working on getting our foundation shored up and augmented to a certain degree, and we go from there.

Besides, I can hardly see them just throwing away the artwork and programming and energy they put into making droids, and working on a new profession. Maybe it comes after Space, maybe it comes next year, and maybe not.. but I don't rule out it's inclusion in the future.

In the meantime, I'm going to keep working on honing my production schedule and organizing my business (or attempt at one anyways), and I'm going to keep visiting these boards, and continue to hammer away at the specifics.

Oh yeah, and I'm going to go and have myself a nice big deep fried haddock and fries, and curse that traitorus creature handling follower Benedict Ackis

/grin Enjoy your hiatus Ackis.

If you're talking to me, I was a DE, you fool. I dropped it because I was tired of wasting my time. If it becomes a viable profession I'll get back into it, which is why I have an interest in it. If some people get their way and it becomes a combat profession then I'll have no interest in it. As has been said before, if DE in the current form and with it's current prerequisites becomes a combat profession it'd be a hybrid combat/crafting profession. It'll do both, but isn't very good at either. It'll be a half-assed crafting profession with limited scope and very weak in combat. You'd be better off asa CH for combat and have more useful things to craft and sell as any other crafting profession. I'd prefer to see DE remain a pure crafting profession, and if you don't like my being here, too bad for you.

I've never seen someone so passionate about a profession that he is not even apart of. I think that you that are not DE's should be more concerned about the direction of your own professions and not one that is frankly, none of your business.

Sounds to me that you are worried that DE's might get something that you want, but would not get. The only crafters that can not use their products are weaponsmiths. And they can, but just not with the same effectiveness that the profession it was created for can. So, If DE's were allowed to make 'battle bots' why not give them the controls. Trying to compare DE's to other crafters is rediculess. Each profession needs its own identity and does not need to be a clone of eachother. Just like Architecs don't critical fail...why not all the crafters....Not fair.....Whine, Whine, Whine.....I didn't complain once about that, but supported the fact and was happy for them.

So, Yes it is fair that we should get droidekas and others don't.

Course, that is my opinion. And since I am a DE it matters.

Folks,we can and should try to iron out a middle ground between the two camps of thought here in this thread.

Give my proposal a read over at this link:
Combat Utility Modules: A Middle Ground

Offer your thoughts and constructive ideas on that thread, we might be able to elevate both sides of this argument without either side feeling left out.

Indeed! All of those classes could get very powerful combat droids without any combat imbalance. None have any combat capability now, unless they diverted some skillpoints away from their primary profession to be able to defend themselves from kreetles camping their harvesters.

By allowing higher level combatdroid use for the existing non-combat elite professions, there would be many (and rich) customers for the combat droids. It seems strange that a Masterof an elite Artisan based professiontoday can't buy anything that would allow him to do a theme park, run a quest, or even go out of his house if agro critters spawnby his doorstep.

My previous postings on the subject seemed never to have gotten read when the possibility was open for discussion, well maybe next year.

Or they could just master any of the elite combat professions that just take one base tree. With any master crafting profession you still have plenty of points left over for master rifleman, TKA, Doctor, (insert favorite non-hybrid profession here), etc... Its not a matter of not having enough skillpoints, its a matter of people wanting to be able to do everything for themselves, without having to rely on anyone else for anything.

Have you tried combat without combat skills? With absolutely no combat skills and only my probot for support I'm able to take down everything from about desert demons down. Is this everything that might be camping next to you're harvester? No, but if you can kill anything that might be near you're harvester then whats the point in anyone taking up a combat profession? Why should you expect someone with absolutely no combat skills to be able to take down grauls or dune lizards?

Again, if you could buy something to give you combat power at no skill-point cost then what would be the point of having combat professions in the game? Why not just give all combat skills a credit value and take away the skill point cost?

what "we" (we being the majority of the players that responded to TH's in development post on droids) asked for were utility droids and utility modules. They are giving us what "we" want, it is just that you are part of a different (and smaller) "we".
