Thread: Sodan's Hybrid DE Proposal

Mmmm, much better now thx
I like the idea then since I already have all of the unarmed tree.
Coffee is GOOD.
Good there seem to be very few objections, but the ones that are present are duly noted.

If we knocked the max CL level down to say 25, then my two concerns above would be nullified and I'd fully support this idea.
I say just stand behind the basic idea, and let the Devs tweak the numbers to balance it into the game. The basic proposal is a good idea, and a solid one.
I'm all for getting a plan to the Dev's that they're not going to take one look at and pronounce it as "overpowered, NEXT..." We need to be concerned about this just as much as they would.
Virt,
Are your concerns resolved if the proposal is changed to CL 25? I am modifying it so that the devs can choose from somewhere between CL 25-35 since we do not know how much HAM is involved on the droids.
Well, this is what I envision TH doing when he reads this thread:
<TH starts reading>
TH: "blah, blah, blah, okay... get to the point"
<TH spits out his Mr. Pibb>
TH: "CL35 with medium armor and 40% resists?!?!? Forget it!"
<TH hits the Delete key and goes back to reading Dilbert cartoons>
I have modified the proposal to include a variable max droid CL lvl of 25-35 depending on droid armor. If CH Cl 35 pets have similar armor, then CL 35 droids are fine. If droid armor is better and results in poor balance, then then it should be adjusted to CL 25. The devs have access to more information than we do, so the proposal is stated as a variable. No "checker grab" is intended.
The same amount of points invested in CH should get you the same amount of droids if invested in DE.
I've modified the proposal accordingly. Thanks, Virt.

I just want them to see a balanced, conservative, and "fair" plan so they can really give it a good lookover. We should really try to take balance and fairness into consideration. My personal opinion, CL25 droids with medium armor and 40% resists are darn good, don't step on the toes of CH's or BE's, are a real addition to the DE profession, and should mesh well with high powered "personal security" droids that would be legal in the Empire's eyes at this point in the game world.

1) There are many points in this game that do not, to be honest, stay with continuity. It's a game. They are going to HAVE to adjust continuity to keep it 'game-like' and fun. And, this is coming from a stickler for continuity.
In SW EU there are:
- slaves (like the many Wookieesenslaved by the Empire)
- drug/spice addicts
- other 'factions' (Black Sun,the Hutts, etc.)
- << Insert any one of hundreds of little items that don't stay with continuity relating to SWG >>
2) From what I've seen, droid armies are not allowed. Droids that have some amount of offensive/defensive capability (i.e. personal security / bodyguard droids) ARE legal....but they are somewhat rare and quite pricey.
Remember....droid ARMIES are illegal. Droids that can actually do some kind of combat (the level of which notwithstanding) are not.

Just to put some coin on this continuity point:

The way I interpret the continuity thing, Combat droids, and even droid armies are not illegal. The Empire used Dark Troopers (pretty high powered droids) just after the Battle of Yavin, which fits in with this game's time period.
Droid armies were banned by the Repuplic after the fiasco on Naboo in Ep. 1. The Republic is no longer in control and their laws are invalid in this time period.
Of course the Empire probably says it's illegal for any of their enemies to have high powered droids or droid armies, but if they're fighting the Empire, who's gonna adhere to their rules anyway? It's just that the Rebels didn't have the massive resources available to themto get Combat droids or droid armies. (This last paragraph is purely speculation on my part)
How about this to add to the proposal: High lvl combat droids are illegal and subject to imperial scans? As for continuity, we already have droidekas, IG-88s and Super Battle Droids in the game.

Sodan's pretty smart for a florist. ![]()
Good Idea from the Dancing DE.

On a side note:
I'm just happy to have constructive discussion back on the DE boards.
Of course it will only last until a Dev comes in here and completely shoots us down again. ![]()
So far most everyone seems to be in agreement that having part of the DE tree devoted to combat droids would be an acceptable compromise. Providing that dabblers in just the combat part of the tree cannot construct what they use, DEs will actually have a larger market.
To the best of my knowledge, Dark Troopers are NOT "droids". They are basically stormtroopers in better (more powerful) outfits.

Edited Note: You'll see further below that duncje lays some Dark-Trooper-style smack down on me.
