oh oh oh, just had another GREAT idea......how about Droid Engineers can build..............................A DEATH STAR.....yeah i mean who else should be able to do this than the a non combat profession, because they should be able to do everything better than anyone else right......

but anyway, DE's can build a Death Star which allows you to attack any number of character on any planet and give them perma-death, thus destroying their characters, and there is not way for your Death Star to be destroyed.

just another idea.

So, Boeda, you believe that every class should inherntly get combat ability huh? why? Theres nothing in the title droid engineer, or chef, or armor smith that gives me the impression that these are combat professions.

Droid Enge's are good at making droids. Thats what they do. However, if you'd like to go outside of that and obtain a combat profession as well, go for it. You don't have to master artisan to be a realDe, theres master artisan's running around everywhere these days. if your main focus is combat, you won't miss artisan at all.

My template will be master De, and master Swordsman. I'll be just as effective at combat as most every other combatant, while also getting the ability to craft droids. There is no reason to take multiple combat professions anyway, as soon the defense and dodgemods which are currently stackable won't be.

Don't look at it as a class thing. There are no classes in this game. It's all about templates, about picking up skils that you want to add to your character. Pick up DE andgrab some or all ofRifleman if you want to shoot rifles effectively. Or pick up DE andgrab some or all ofTKA if you think unarmed combat sounds fun. Forget the titles, all your doing is adding abilities onto your character. That's why you have the amount of skill points you have, to allow you to do this.

But adding combat ability into each and every profession? Sorry, but that just doesn't make sense when theres no reason to do so.

I'm not understanding why your seeing combat as the entirety of the game. It really isn't. I don't judge a crafter's success by how much butt they can kick in combat. And if i were a pure crafter, i would never expect to be able to join some hunting group, as I really couldn't contribute anything. But if i pick up, say master rifleman, i become every bit as deadly as that bounty hunter or commando.

>You can have multiple characters. I do. <

Yes, on different servers. It really too hard to keep a group of friiends together on one server. Let alone two or more. Besides which other servers to pick. When to play on which server. ETC. It ~'Dont work good'

And I admit, theres also the anti social, one alt helping the other, 'teamwork' thing. thats a big part for me too.

DAoC lost me, by too late, allowing an easy way to pass stuff between chars. (again, multiple accounts were at first expected to solve this problem for those who did not wish to be forced to 'intereact')

Strange, that data space was given as a reason for one char per server. When it takes as much data space to put an alt on another server. Doesnt it ?

I dont see how anyone can really prefer no option for alt chars (on the same server) those who prefer to play only one char will allways have the advantage of concentrating thier time in one place. ~ 'one lev 50, is stronger than 3 lev 30s'

I belive the profit motive is really the main motivation for SCS. Even tho it does have some, nice things that can be said for it. It has more disadvantages than advantages, in my wise opinion. And I think even the profit angle does not win with SCS either. More happy mezmerised players = yet even more mezmerized happy players = more profits. ( than fewer and fewer less happy multiple account players.) And,, you can get your multiple accounts with what? Limited lots/account!

(shouldnt i be getting paid nmore for this ?) { More ! Jellybeans ! }

DOH ! i fogot some question(s) (this isnt a secret bump look at the time stamp)

>Boeda, you keep talking as if your talking for the majority of players.<

Yep.

>Just because you feel that way doesn't necessarily mean everyone else feels the same.<

Just because you don't, feel that way doesn't necessarily mean everyone else doesnt too.

>If you really want to argue this go for it, but it doesn't belong on the DE boards. <

Well, your right that much of this isnt a DE only subject. And would be appropraite to vent elsewhere. But it does address issues we brought up, resulting from the idea of balancing the DE proffession to have a more CH like combat power. It follows quite naturally. the,, SCS, thing, yes is a bit afield. But even it explains why this certain kind of balance is more needed in this game. Or, other ways to aleviate those needs.

>Moongoose<

Your 'Phearing' DEs now, aren't you ?

Deat Star ? Wouldnt that be a Space Craft/Polititician/Architect thing ? Lotta resouces,, Slow build time.

"CH like combat power"..see maybe theres the problem. The CH doesn't have combat power by itself, never did. In order to kill effecitvely, you need to apply a second combat profession with it. CH pets are good only for tanking, to soak up damage, and keep the heat off you (sometimes). Try playing a CH by itself and see how far you get. If you turned DE into another CH by adding higer combat droids and the ability to use them, you'd turn DE into another tanking profession basically. I don't think many want that. The chances that, for that gain in power the devs would very likely remove some or most of the profession's crafting ability would destroy the reasoning that many DE's give to make DE a combat/crafting hybrid; the ability to make and use your own droids.

You seem to belive that the amount of points spent on combat professionsshould increase your combat ability. I'd agree with that, except that if you look at the game it just doesn't work that way right now. BH is not the most "powerful" profession, despite the huge point cost. Commando is strong, but it's purely a one trick pony, though a fun one. Right now the "best" is probably the Pistoleer/Fencer template but that will be going away soon as the mods won't be stacking anymore. So basically, you'll get no further benefit from adding any combat professsions together. A crafting/combat template will become just as strong as a combat/combat template. You can only use one weapon at a time, after all.

> Multiple character slots tends to kill the development of actual characters, and instead you just get players. <

Thats the 'justification' besides data space. And it does have some points. Now I know you will argue about most. But in my experience, I and Most players will not benifit fron that 'concept'. The one guy I knew that aggreed with the SCS thing. (and it was for the principle that you mention. And because he didnt usually play more than one char in multi slot MMs anyway. He, Now has Two accounts!

I started playing with a bunch of people. of those left all but me and one other have multiple account. I just refuse to get multiple accounts and the other one account user is 'fading out' after canceling another account.

But this is OT and really not furthering the relevant part of our discussion. I think my ideas will serve the 'most' you dont. Nuff said.

> The CH doesn't have combat power by itself, never did. In order to kill effecitvely, you need to apply a second combat profession with it.<

I see what you mean. But definatly CH has combat advantages. My goal is not to make Crafters (or DEs in particular in this very important case) Combat proffessions. But to give them a chance, if they wish to have a competitive chance at combat. A CH (if not already), or a DE (if they use the plan) would have a chance to spend remaining skillpoints, to become competitive. Not to be just as good or better than a pue combat profession, but close. (but if DEs were just as powerfull as CHs, or riflemen/whatever or the same skill cost it would not bother me too much either. But I see the reasoning to have some combat superiority from pure combat professions.

But I am Worried now. That if I am to have a chance at being an effective quest partner, or adventurer, etc. That I must crate up my droids and leave the DE profession.

"In the next two publishes, after crackdown, we are focusing specifically on Droids. We plan on implementing combat droids (< level 10) in P7, and Utility Droids in P8." - JustG

Now, it looks like its not a question of where the droid certs go. Its an Answer of No (significant) Combat Droids !

When I voted on that 'do we want DH' thread I meant "I want certs in DE", NOT "I dont want Certs and Combat Droids!"

It looks like if 'we' or 'most of us' want Combat droids we have some work ahead of us.

You can see from the date/time, my last post was not, a 'secret bump'. this one ? well, um, hmm.

But, Anyway. From another thread I gave a link to here. Somthing that does belong here.

in: 'Am I the only one who wants Combat Droids ?'

No. According to "My Plan" (which was largly made up of other peoples plans. Rogue, and Duck, come to mind. But probly many others) A DE 'droid handler' would only be about 85% as powerfull as someone who spent thier points on 'pure combat' skills.

>Droids need to be useable by everyone and so need to be kept weak and in line with level 10 CH pets ( or given out as a cert system to help balance them )<

<10 droids would remain available to all. Just as they are. Others could choose to spend 35-54 points to get the droid certs from the DE branch. with or without the master artisan part. { A) the droid market } If my exact plan does not place a prober point value to combat power it could be tweeked. { B) the skill point distribution }It was just an example of the maiin idea. Whether this branch could require droid crafting or combat experience is another thing that can be decided later.

before you begin your plan to having the devs create a class that is trained in telling a droid what to do (/boggle) think hard about the effect it would have on the following

A) the droid market (see above)

B) the skill point distribution (see above)

This would require new skillpoints expeniture for all but DEs. For a 'max cert' it would require master artisan as well. It does give some checkers to DEs who so far only have ritz crackers. It also is artisan/crafter friendly. who need more 'checkers' too. It does,, do nothing for BE and entertainers, who like DEs (so far are stuck at the checker board armed only with snacks (cant play).

Again, lest i be misunderstood. I am not trying to force pure crafters to combat. Just to allow, the impure, the chance.

C) the CH profession

The full master DE/Master Artisan Full Cert, would require 145 skillpoints thats more than master CH, which is arguably, maby not a pure combat class, itself. IF 145 points gets DEs as much power as CHs, the great. If thats too powerfull then maby CHs are too powerfull. (i dont suppose they are too powerfull now. But im not a master CH)

D) the Star Warsy feel of the game

If combat droids arnt "Star Warsy" I dont know what is. If you dont think the many rebels didnt get thier hands on (captured, stolen, illegaly manufactured) Probots, Droidekas, and even STATs, ATATs during the era of episode IV. Then you don't have very much imagination. ('Was that a Wookie, I saw driving that ATAT ?)

Droid Engineers are not about Combat - they are about droids and the effect that have on the SW Universe

Droid Engineers are about anything they care to be! I have not managed to take a poll. But you are not the only DE. I can speak for A few DEs (including my self) that care about combat, as well, as 'tinkering'.

I was going to quit bumbing this last post. But someone pointed out in a different thread. that I added and extra 5 points to my skillpoint cost by mistake, in the original post. So I bump yet one more time to just put the corrected thing up there.

I hoping a lurking Dev will get some ideas from this.

'Distributed' cert.

'Crafter friendly'

Dabble able mini profession, like limited cert.

Why ? Yes I (um sort of to the extent my withering brain can remember) 'know' basic HTML. No Java.

I tried to make a 'A href="etc. /A' link in other posts to this one but it wouldnt jump to the URL.

I have made simple web pages in a thing that is mostly a text editor. And could probly eventually learn anything I might want to use. But Im not big on it. My needs are small as are my HTML ambitions.

Why ?
