Droid Engineer Archive
Thread: I'm ready for my closeup, Mr. Developer! Today's the day...
We don't have...
- "ICC (Imperial Communications Commission)" testing that a droid has to pass on.
- We don't have anything like "UL testing" (Underwriter's Laboratories)
- We don't get to buy 'pick-and-place' machines, wave-solder machines or anything. I guess those are all inside our factories.
- We don't have marketing departments to struggle against.
- We don't have deadlines that have to be met.
- We don't have over-anxious users that feel like we can build anything (including, but not limited to, a time machine) into their droids.
- We don't have to deal with PCBs, "opens", shorts, floating pins or RF/EMI issues.
Wow.....we really have it easy.

Respectfully,
Really, we're magicians. A few flicks of the wrist -- clicks ot the mouse -- and an Advanced Droid Frame magically appears.
I wish this would happen in real life. Though I especially like scouts -- bend down and slide your hand on the ground, and you find some edible food; and medics -- extend your hand and wiggle your fingers, and the party you're treating is cured!
The Secret Service have been causing a stir by making special arrangements for presidential appearances. Protesters are limited to 'Free Speech Zones' that are well away from the president. The argument is that this is to protect the president, but it's not difficult to see that it's good press: nobody watching at home sees the thousands of protesters that don't like X new idea of the president's. They can also be conveniently ignored.
Suddenly, our general discussion forum is gone, and we're told to report problems in our own forums, where we can be conveniently ignored. We can post in their threads in the development forums, but only on topics they choose. Free Speech Zones indeed.
Once upon a time, I wasn't this cynical, you know.
A little levity goes a long way to quell the times when we're delayed unnecessarily.

What is so funny about that post is I can see the whole thing happining too. Its like a Dilbert cartoon. Sounds crazy but is so true to how things really work.
/looks for his fluke tester
I don't have to look for mine. It's in my bottom right drawer as I write this.
