Thread: will you drop DE to get the JEDI slot...
The funniest part of all this is that SOE never said that you had to follow your holocron. It is just a hint. Depending on how you read the hint it means different things. To me the only hint this stuff is giving is you must master a profession. That's it. I believe there are several other steps to unlocking the FSCS. Otherwise you would have had one already.
If by some chance I am looking at this wrongly and SOE is actually trying to dictate how you must play the game in order to gain a slim chance at actually having a jedi, well I'll just say it wouldn't be a wise move on their part.
To answer the question, hell no I wouldn't give up droiding. I'll be giving it up for EQ2 only.

As a note to those that would drop DE if they had to, it doesn't have to be so bad to return...
I dropped DE a week and a half before this post with full intention to return after the bad patch. I was 2/0/0/3, which isn't much, but I was steadily working my way to the top without having tried a bunch of other professions that I had been envious of(partially, because they worked). I figured I wouldn't drop DE if I was a master and came up with a plan.
With a third tier block trained, your xp cap is somewhere over 105k xp. The first and second tier blocks cost about 48k and 67k(I think), respectively. This means that it ony takes 115k xp to get to Advanced Droid Frames and after that, it's a resource game and not two hard. I ground up to just over 80K and dropped all but Novice. Unfortunately, if you make ANYTHING after you drop your highest tier blocks than your cap will drop to your current cap and your xp will fall to match. With this in mind, make sure you tell your Architect roommate that you dropped most of DE before he logs you in to make some droid storage compartments for his crafting stations... 50K xp isn't a bad start, I guess.

Personally, I think it would be crazy to drop all the hard work we have done for months. Now if your only purpose of playing SWG was to become a Jedi, then droping MDE is for you. For me, would be a waste of time. IF it is true of the rumors, I would dedicate a toon on another server just for that.
I probably wouldn't do it. MDE and MA are non-negotiable for my character. The rest of my skills, though, I'd probably be willing to give up in order to open a FSCS, but that means that certain paths are not open to me due to skill point limits (MA/MDE uses up 140).
I bought this game to be a Droid Engineer, not a Jedi. If I can do both that's great, but if not then Jedi loses because I just don't care about being a Jedi. PvP in this game blows, so why would I want to play a character for which PvP is MANDATORY?
