Educational purposes.

I'm sorry...but I don't know how that makes sense. What exactly are you trying to educate here?

The fact that droid item storage would avoid scans has been know (via reports from TC) for some time now.

I'm still confused as to why DEs are being waylayed over this.

I want DEs to know why this is a big deal for Smugglers, basically.

The issues are being whitewashed, and many people here seem to think that 1) this was a Smuggler fix Publish and 2) Smugglers are slicers and spicers rather than contraband specialists.

This issuecuts us to the core. I just don't believe that some people here are seeing that, and I wanted to give perspective.

Nomad,

I wish you luck on this.

However, to be honest, the plight of the Smugger vis a vis this issue will not in anyway affect how or when I market or sell item storage.

If it happens to help people avoid scans, you better believe that I'm gonna use that as a sales pitch if I need to do so.

At least for now...that's just how it goes, I guess.

Good luck in your campaign to get this resolved.

I still don't see why this is even such a big deal. Droids SHOULD be able to get things past scans. Please give me one piece of evidence, or one fact that would make this appear to be a bug, or an exploit. Luke smuggles a lightsaber via R2D2 right into Jabba's palace. It is ridiculous that smugglers are getting so upset about this. Smugglers already have a lot more going for them than droid engineers do. If droids can help people get 10 things per droid past imperial scans, then good on them. I am sure there is not always going to be a smuggler around whenever they are needed. I think bottom line, it isn't a big deal. If droid engineer was an uber field with droids that could already do EVERYTHING and more, then maybe it would be a big deal. Is it a gamebreaking feature? No. Is there an issue with balance? Nope. I don't think that the compartment was probably designed with smuggling in mind, but I don't think it is a huge stretch to think that droids could evade scans. I am not going to bother discussing this anymore really, because it is just a flavor of the week issue, and I am sure that in a couple of days, something else is going to come up, and people will be wanting some other profession to get nerfed. Take it easy folks.

It's sad, really, that a profession as borked as yours doesnt recognize when another profession is getting shafted. It's too bad that so many of you are unwilling to compromise and attempt to save what will otherwise sooner or later disappear.

Actually...no one knows whether or not this will disappear. I know that you hope it will but I'd hardly say this constitutes saying that it "will". That is up to the Devs to decide.

Droids that completely avoid scans will not last.

Again...this is a statement of hope on your part, not fact. You do not have any way to know if this will or will not continue to be the case. It might actually continue. You simply do not know.

I and the other smugglers will contiinue to fight this, but I for one will do it in other, more public forums. If you wish to participate in a cooperative discussion, please visit the smugglers forum. We will welcome your ideas and input. (Most of us anyway)

I'm not really sure what you want from the DEs in this forum. We had nothing to do with this specific issue coming into play. Why would you ask for us to take up the charge (and cooperate in any kind of discussion) on something that we didn't ask for...but got anyway?!?

It sounds very much to me like the Smugglers have decided that there isn't much to discuss and you simply want this to go away.

Believe me...we wonder the same thing about battery life, droid paint, experimentation meaning something to our products and about 800 other issues. You're hardly alone in having a beef about the state of your profession.

I think it's better that you not try to enlist DEs in your cause since we had nothing to do with this in the first place (and most DEs that I know have bigger issues they'd rather work to address, to be honest).

I wish you luck....all the same but I simply don't see the DE forum as a place that will hold much benefit for this discussion.

I know that I wasn't going to post again, but this is ridiculous. I honestly don't think that ANY smuggler came into the forum honestly looking for compromise. You came into this forum with the attitude that the droid item storage evading scans issue was an exploit, and that WITH OR WITHOUTSOME DEHELP, IT IS GOING TO BE FIXED, BY GOLLY!!!! How is that looking for discussion or compromise? I haven't read one thing leading me to see how you want to help work something out for the droid engineer community, just looking to keep smugglers powerful. I don't see any attitude of concern, or looking for compromise. Talk to the devs about it, since the droid engineer community obviously doesn't agree with you. Please don't come at this from a self-righteous angle, or use the argument that since DEs are so borked, we should watch out for another profession, because we know how it feels. That is pure rubbish. Smugglers are already well set, you can smuggle things, you can craft spice, you can slice things, and you get better pistol specials than I do with the pistoleer class. People always need things sliced, and there is a good demand for spice. Since we are so borked, why are you attacking us for something that is out of our control? I think you need to re-examine your logic behind calling the normal function of an item in the game an exploit. It does not work around any game mechanism, it doesn't break the game. Using the vehicle datapad issue is also like comparing apples and oranges. The vehicle wasn't made with crafting stations, or storage modules, and a vehicle/shuttleport/repair/datapad issue is just not the same thing. The imperial crackdown is a temporary feature, so I really don't understand all of this excitement, this wouldn't be an issue if some smugglers didn't feel that some little private feature of "their game" wasn't being usurped. As for Nomad's earlier post about all of the smugglers holding on for this very time, so that they could finally smuggle items, which is the whole point behind their profession....boo hoo. It isn't the sole point behind your profession, maybe things will change with the space expansion, running smuggling missions between planets or something, but please don't talk about holding on, when the old droid engineer community has been holding on, hoping for the best since release. I am a new member of the droid engineer community, but I have already seen how "borked" the profession is, and I am going to hold on and see if things change. I just don't like it when people slide into the forum and attack us for not agreeing with them. Like I have said a few times already, why is it such a big deal? Let all of the rest of the big gameplay issues get fixed, and let's just play the game! I will still appreciate what smugglers bring to the table, and I will definitely call on them when I need something sliced, some spices, and I will sell them a droid if they want to smuggle something past a scan. :-) Take care folks.

I have the perfect solution.....

sell no droids to smugglers- get back to your own forums i'm sick and tired of you rich and useful professions complaining every single time DE has something to sell "OH BUT YOU ARE TAKING MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET"
who cares- go discuss it with a rancor

Anyone need a droid with Item Storage? Send me an email ingame I'll craft it for you

This issue will not go away, I happen to read the smuggler board quite often and I know they are frickin rabid about this, and honestly there are far more Smugglers than there are Droid Engineers. It really isn't fair to the Smugglers for anyone to be able to have a dimentional pocket thereby avoiding detection. Smugglers should be the smugglers, and in an attempt to reconcile this issue I have presented this compromise, you can one-star me all you want (please don't), this issue will not go away. FYI this thread was concurently posted on the Smuggler board, and most of them are equally unwilling to compromise. Compromising is the basis of democracy, and although this is more like a monarchy, there are genuinely democratic debates here in the forums that do, hopefully, influence SOE's decisions.

Would that be the same "dimensional pocket" that your speeder disappears into when you store it? Or your pack of rancors?

Why come to us asking for a "compromise"? It's not like we can do anything about it. "Please, mister Dev! Take away some more Droid functionality!" Yeah, that'll fly.

Take it to the Devs. It is most likely a bug or an oversight anyway, and will likely be "fixed" in the next push. Find something more useful to spend energy on (like Underworld).

I'm still confused what the issue is.... I mean is ANYONE trying to smuggle? Period? All I've seen is Rebels FP farming, I haven't seen any smuggling with smugglers or droids. I put 15 10 unit storage droids on my vendor at 1500 each. I'm in a mall and I told all my guild mates about them. I still have 11.

At this point it is a non-issue. NO ONE IS SMUGGLING

It's clear that the system cannot track items in a stored droid (technologically).

If it were, items in our droids would decay and be insured as normal since being able to store up to 50 decay-free items - when most people don't even have that many decay-able items on them - surely isn't cool with the Devs.

So DE's have smugglers (and architects) in the DE forum yelping about how horrible we are when we have absolutely nothing to do with the situation - and it's a non-issue here.

If smugglers have an issue with it (and I am one) it should be brought up with the Smuggler correspondent, as I am sure it has been.

Neither issue is any skin off our backs, and it's not worth the forum space. That does NOT mean it shouldn't be addressed - but this is not the place.

That's an entirely other matter as well, LOL. I've played a lot since the patch, and have yet to even be scanned even though I have traveled to practically every city on the five starter planets. I have been trying like all heck to get scanned - and carrying at least 15 items of contraband on me - like the oldsaying goes, "I can't even get arrested..."

With utmost respect I have to say, just because your profession is utterly broken, dosn't validate the fact that this hurts the smugglers future. If you noticed, there are a lot of very unhappy carbineers at the moment. They also are a very broken profession. They just lost the only shot that made them effective, chargeshot1. Saddly for them it really had to be done as that shot was ridiculous. Droids that 100% conceal contraband are obviously not intended and needs to be adressed if smugglers are ever going to be able to smuggle.

I really hope you guys get your fix soon, but remember that by endorsing these storage droids you are effectivly stealing our future.
