Yeah, you're right. I completely forgot that a Droid can get an entire 20-persongroup past a Stormtrooper squad all by itself. Though now that we have those slicing and spice manufacturing modules there's not much left for Smugglers to do.

Yep. No streetfighting. No slicing. No spice CRAFTING. No smuggling entire teams passed the checkpoint. No slicing base terminals. No using our droids to be an even better smuggler.

Very tough.

Question for the old, old, old timers..... Wasn't Item Storage capped at 20 items at one time?

Yea....about a billion years ago (read: right after launch).

See... it could have been worse for smugglers. Don't count your chickens boys...

Well, we can't please everbody, can we? I think it is funny how all of a sudden the smuggler's central role is to smuggle things. Maybe it always should have been that way, but I am laughing. If smugglers should be concentrating on smuggling stuff, then maybe we should take their good pistol specials away, and put them back with pistoleer, where they belong. Hmm, we could replace that with say...I dunno, ship tinkering or something when the space expansion comes out. Han Solo was always fiddling with the Falcon. I am posting this in jest really, because I wish everything would just be fixed, and that my droid engineer profession would be in demand, and needed. I think the last thing smugglers should be doing is complaining about one thing that a droid can finally accomplish, even if the item storage issue is an oversight on the part of the devs. Smugglers will still get more business than a droid engineer could hope for. Let's all quit yelling for everybody to get nerfed, and get everybody fixed!! That's my 2 credits!

The reason why it is called Droid storage, is because you store things in it. Asa Smuggler you have the contraband in your hand and put it up to the Stormtroopers face and not get caught. Meaning you can have it equipped, or use it. Our contraband has to be stored to avoid the scan. And what good does that do to our gun?

The number one issue for Smugglers since launchhas always benthat there is no way to smuggle anything.

The Devs acknowledged this a long time agoand promised that fixes would be on the way (and promised and promised and...). Smugglers stuck with this profession with the expectation that one day, we would smuggle, and we'd live up to our title.

This Publish was supposed to be about beefing up the Empire, but close to the end of the development cycle, the Devs announced that the Crackdown would also encompass contraband scans. Moving contraband is smuggling, so instantly, Smugglers got pulled into the Publish, whether we liked it or not, and whether the Devs had contemplated the implications on the profession or not.

And so here Smugglers are, supposed to be the masters of moving illegal items, and seeing the SWG community looking for any loophole they can find to snipe what was always presumed to be the core value of the Smuggler profession.Imperials think, "Hey, it's an Imperial crackdown, and we enforce the law, so we must be ABOVE the law," and so they figure they deserve free passes for illegal drugs and hacked weapons that they get from criminals. The devs caved and gave them the skills. Now Droid Engineers are drooling about the prospect of using the current "no decay/no scan inside a stored droid" bug/oversight and pushing to normalize it, when the implication is that everyone would be able to move contraband from Point A to Point B with 100% immunity - ie, everyone would be able to smuggle.

Slicing, spicing, etc are great supplements to the profession, but the core has been and always will be smuggling, even if it doesn't exist beyond the Crackdown's very primitive system. This is a fight not just for the present, but for the future.

Nomad,

I have to state this again....since it is the only real answer that I can see for Smugglers.

This is something you're going to have to work out with your Correspondent and Thunderheart.

The two things are pretty much unrelated.

If you think otherwise, it's pretty clear that SOE and the Devs want you to use your regular communication 'channels' to try and get this addressed.

I wouldn't think this will happen in the short term. I seriously doubt it will happen in the longer term either.

That is something you're going to have to work out with your Correspondent and Thunderheart.

You really want to have it both ways don't you?

Me? I think that it's very easy to use droid storage and a few hotkeys to instantly equip your full sliced armor, sliced weapon, and dose of spice. It's certainly easier than finding another player to help you smuggle your goods, which is what was intended in this publish. (Again read the publish notes, they mention smugglers, not storage droids).

But ease of use isn't even the issue. It's the availablity of a workaround that eliminates the need of smugglers to smuggle.

No, I don't want it both ways, I was talking about two different things.

Ease of usein game play, meaning the ability to play the game peacefully without getting ganked by every 12-yr old wannabe powergamer who just happens by. Ease of use meaning that you don't have to rely on said 12-yr old wannabe powergamer to help you do something as mundane as tend your harvesters. Ease of use meaning that you don't have to rely on some uninterested other person in order to play the game. A PITA, clunky, and unwieldy droid can provide ease of use.

Creating a macro to equip all of your contraband is simple for you and other high-end gamers, but I have a lot of friends who struggle with the concept. They can't even seem to use the macros that I provide for them. And furthermore, wanna tell me how you're going to get all that equipment back into your droid using a macro? Or how you're going to get it out if your inventory is full of resources that you've just harvested?

A storage droid is a poor substitute for a Smuggler and really doesn't diminish the Smuggler's role in the game. Get over the name of the profession... there's no need for a true smuggler in the game and it's just not what you guys do. I'm a Droid Engineer, but that doesn't mean that I get to engineer new droids. All I do is fabricate droids based on pre-established schematics. That's not engineering, just like fabrication of spices and slicing of weapons isn't what you think smuggling should be.

Believe me, TK, I've already been PMing back and forth with a member of the Dev team on this issue.

The why come here? If you haven't noticed, we're the last people who would have any influence with the devs.

I have to agree with GnomeAd here.

If Smugglers are already working through channels to look into this issue, why is the DE forum facing this mini 'invasion'?

It's not like we had anything to do with it, one way or the other.

Nomad,

I'm sorry...but I don't know how that makes sense. What exactly are you trying to educate here?

The fact that droid item storage would avoid scans has been know (via reports from TC) for some time now.

I'm still confused as to why DEs are being waylayed over this.
