I told you all to keep your chins up...now you're starting to see why. Let'shope the changesin the works hold up better than the Falcon's hyperdrive.

Heh.

Nice try TK.

If you didn't know about this, how does it justify you telling us to keep "our chins up?"

Why should he TK?

He is right.

You didn't even know about this change - how funny is THAT?

They are going to change our entire business after telling us that we were only getting new modules in publish 8 - that publish 7 was it for combat.

Now, yes, it's nice to get better stuff, but the method SUCKS OUT LOUD.

It is enough to make you scream.

Other professions get changed, but not screwed over like this with each and every little bit we get.

Really, too funny that you didn't know about this. Proves several of the points people have been making lately regarding the state of communications and the amount of spin doctoring you seem to be doing on quite your own accord.

TK I don't want your position, BTW I think you are doing a good job on our behalf. Now for the however. I understand that the devs "aren't inclined to post in any 'snake pit' profession forums". My response to this little rebuke is that the forum is of their making. The lack of communication to you /to us has created a worsening situation. Now we see experienced MDEs leaving the profession. These are the very people that have taught us newer MDE some of the finer aspects of the craft.

The only way we may get our voices heard is post these problems in a more open forum that more players frequent.

I could not agree with this more.

And the irony of what TK is saying is hilarious...

This changing of modules and HAM and what have you may not affect a “Backpack” DE (no offence intended) but for any of us that are capable of large operations and stand to lose millions every time the Vaseline gets applied, IT SUCKS! (Anybody want to buy 8 or 9 hundred Socket clusters?)

Very nice post Gately, hard to read, but very well put.

This is the point here.

Yes, I understand that business is full of unexpected things, yadda, yadda, but this is not an act of God - it's an intentional act by the Dev team.

So far, with the track record on recent DE changes, each and every one has been accompanied by either a nerf or some other "oversight" that ends up putting us way behind in a place where we wish in some ways they would have just left it all alone in the first place.

The enhanced damage on droids = good. They nerfed the armor to nothing = bad.

They are giving us visual deeds = sort of good. In the process they have destroyed the market for chassis = bad.

In the first case, they can almost justify the nerf (though not the stealth way in which it was done - does anyone else not think that the armor "bug" from publish 6 was intentional at this point??? we should have known...), but in the second it's just that they didn't stop to think about the impact. There is no reason they couldn't leave the step to customization as it was and then add their system on top of it - except they either didn't care or nerfed it on purpose - I'm not sure which is worse.

In this case, they are not only going to piss off the people that I have been selling the so-called "new" combat droids with maximum combat ratings if they don't make it retroactive, and if they change the amount of combat ratings and not their meaning instead, I'm going to be stuck with tons and tons of useless crap.

So instead of being happy about the change, I have to deal with two potentially devestating blows to my business - AGAIN.

It took a lot out of me to make the best out of the nerfs and garbage from Publish 7 - I'm lucky, I could afford to sink a lot of money in to make it work. However, those DE's that aren't "backpack" crafters (I like that term ), but not industrialists, the "middle guy" are the ones that are going to be screwed so far to the wall you could hang a picture on them.

And personally, I just can't bear to go through this again - I still have a couple hundred deeds left over from before Publish 7 that I sell for nothing - but then again, no one wants either.

Since they have not kept us - or anyone - updated about this, I assume it will be another free-for-all and no one will know what's going on and slapped in with no concern as to how it affects those of us who are already playing the game.

I understand looking towards the future, but that must be tempered with good sense - I mean, how long are we supposed to wait for things to stabilize? It won't do anyone any good if they achieve their mythical balance the week before they finally turn the servers off.

Soon this game will be a year old - at some point, it's got to grow up and stop changing it's mind on major issues every publish. It's one thing to constantly evolve, but evolution involves the development of something, not the constant "reiteration" of it. SWG will never be "finished"; however many people are leaving simply because there is simply no place in sight where they are going to leave the foundation alone long enough for something meaningful to be built on top of it. This is why the crafting experimentation was rightly rejected by the community - in some ways, it was a richer, better system, but changing such a fundamental system has such far-reaching effects at this point in the game that in some ways it would have never recovered.

We have to stop dealing with SWG like the future is all that matters - like real life, if you spend all your time looking at the "end", you are going to be very disapointed when you get there because...it's the end. An MMO has a lifetime just like a person, and it's time for it to grow out of those teenage years and become a young adult, who hopefully can learn that sweeping, drastic change isn't the answer to every concern, no more than "ignore it and it will go away" is.

I'm selling TONS of them - yours may suck, or you may not know how to sell them, but that doesn't mean some of us can't.

I don't want the several hundred peole I have sold droids to in the past several weeks to be knocking on my door, AGAIN, complaining.

It's not too much to ask that it be done in a way that doesn't anger those people who are finally buying our products.

Oh yea, you think I'm just 'on the payroll' now or something.

You seem to harp on me pining for this position and that it was always my goal. Well, remember when Sintrosi left? I didn't step up then. Remember when Drashk stepped down? I didn't exactly step up until well after it became clear that the community itself was calling on me to do so.

By the way, since you're apparently in the know and on top of the situation....

There's other stuff that I am aware of (that might make it to TC) about which we should be positive.

/emote shaking his head...

I wish it didn't always have to be such a battle with you Audio. I know things suck for us. Is that what you want?

You want me to be the TK I was to start with...steeped in derision and jadedness? That would help us how, exactly?

To be honest...I got tired of being rancorous over our situation, Audio. I know that I could rant and rave with the best of them. However, we know that this clearly doesn't help our situation.

What you call spin, I call trying to keep the DE boards from erupting into flames any worse than they are now. Not an easy thing, believe me.

And....as to that point, I can see why the Devs find it so problematic. It actually makes it much harder for ME to get the good info/data that I need to track and report back to TH and the others.

So, in a way, all the negativity really gates me being able to do a better/faster job for all of you.

Some of you probably won't believe that (or will believe that I'm 'pinning' no matter what I say or do). I can't really solve
that, since I don't think I have a way to truly please everyone in this situation.

If/when the Devs (or the DEs) kick me out, or when r/l presents something that makes me have to bow out, you're more than welcome to this position Audio. It think it would change your perspective just as it's changed mine (and I've heard the same from ex rebel-rousing Correspondents as well).

Because you said you didn't know about it in your reply. If I misunderstood, pardon me. However, again, you responded to what you say made me sound "silly" - yet you do not address the actual points. You said in your first post that this wasn't a problem - clearly for some DE's it is.

Oh yea, you think I'm just 'on the payroll' now or something.

No, but I have seen an absoulte 180 degree turn in you overnight. Again. You've changed your tune so many times I never know what to expect. Well, until now that is.

Whatever, Audio. I'll still read and carefully consider your posts but I'm gonna state here that I think the 'campaign' you seem to have against me is entirely unfair and unwarranted.

I have no campaign, but I have no tolerance for being told I should buy spin. Go back and read that thread above, comments you made one month ago today. An attitude that changed before your blue name even got turned on. THAT is the TK that people nominated, not the "We are getting goodies!" person who tries to justify every nerf and misstep the Dev team makes. It is undeniable, TK - do we need to make a list of all your postings and point each and every instance out? I know you are more self-aware than that, TK.

When I, or someone else, expresses a concern, and you act like the greeter at the Wal-Mart "have a nice day!", I'm sorry but it's very irritating. I would say the same thing no matter who you were - I don't buy snowballs in August. And the TK that used to post on these boards would agree.

You seem to harp on me pining for this position and that it was always my goal. Well, remember when Sintrosi left? I didn't step up then. Remember when Drashk stepped down? I didn't exactly step up until well after it became clear that the community itself was calling on me to do so.

Yes, the community was calling TK to the job. I haven't seen much of him in oh...about a month.

Go back and read the reasons people gave for nominating you. The fact that you wouldn't tolerate us getting "whitewashed", yet it feels daily that is your percieved job.

So, good for you, TK. You knew about it ahead of time and chose not to tell us. You must be so proud. And boy, you really got me here. Boy, I sound stupid.

Do you feel better TK? Because we all know that's why we are here, to make you feel better.

The fact that the Droid Engineer community is again going into waters with no idea of what's going to happen, no idea of how to best do business in the interim until they make up their minds, and that just about every veteran DE has quit in the last several weeks is of no concern. It must all be me and my vast conspiracy against you, TK.

Oh I get it. But so what? Its meaningless. The situation is either we loose in the short term and get improved droids, or we dont get improvements.

People want it done in a way that doesn't screw us over.

People want to live a life of luxory without going to work too. People want lots of things. People have to be reasonable about what they get.

I'm sorry that you don't make enough droids for this to be an issue for you, but some of us do.

You have no clue how many droids I make. Im not a "backpack" de, and im not a full blown industrialist either. I make a comfortable living.

If they are going to adjust them, adjust them in such a way that doesn't nerf all the brand new droids that everyone paid thousands of credits for.

Said it once, said it a thousand times. Credits are cheap. There is no shortage of them. Call it droid decay if you want.

I'm selling TONS of them - yours may suck, or you may not know how to sell them, but that doesn't mean some of us can't.

Well if you are selling tons of them that this isnt a problem for you, since you'll be able to sell them all before the distant patch 8 goes live. As for whether they "suck", i dont think they do. But that is the common impression, largely fostered by the DE community.

I don't want the several hundred peole I have sold droids to in the past several weeks to be knocking on my door, AGAIN, complaining.

Whatever. Only the childish would complain to you about something you are not responsible for.

It's not too much to ask that it be done in a way that doesn't anger those people who are finally buying our products.

Nope, its not to much to ask. It is to much to rant and scream and declare the world is coming to an end based on one sentence from TH.

I got stuck with HUNDREDS of useless droids because of Publish 7. Should I just bend over and say, "thank you sir, may I have another?"

You played the speculative future, even with "good sources" you were the one to decide to make the gamble that it would be cheaper to produce them pre-7 then post-7. It was your own greed, so i hardly feel sorry for your decision. Besides, as i recall, the "hot tip"was to make the Chassis. If you had just made Chassis i believe they would have worked.

Yes, i know im being a jerk AO. You're absolutely right in a lot of ways. I would love to rant about it myself, but quite frankly, you're ranting enough for the entire profession. Its just not helpful. Kicking the people who are in control of getting things done is not a very wise tactic. If we all have to get up every morning and post our allegiance to the devs in order to get droids fixed, then damn it, thats what we need to do. Personally im hoping it wont come to that.

Well, I'm trying to clarify further details on how this combat 'tweak' is going to look. It's not like I have a giant amount of info on what's coming but a bit. Right now, it's sounding like they'd simply like to level us off better vis a vis BE pets (which ones, I don't know). The point is that they seem to want to fix the disparate situations with BEs vs. DEs for competition in the CL10-13ish combat market (such as it is....or isn't).

I guess this was really my fault for not being clear enough in the first post. It was hardly intentional, Audio.

That's my point. When I try to communicate to you all, I'm not trying to spin. I'm trying to be nice.

Plain and simple. It does none of us any good for the DE Corr. to be out and out frantic and such with rage. I hope you know there are times that I do (yes...even now, over some things).

I'm still the same TK...only I do feel something of a responsibility to try to change what's gone on here in the past (since I helped to create it).

Don't think that just because I sound different now than I used to (and, yes, I admit that is the case) that it means that I'm any less watered down with the Devs directly. I can still push to get info, answers and bring up points without having it be combative or adversarial. Things are that way on the Corr. boards at all...and let me tell you, it's GREAT. Seriously.

I want that kind of thing for our boards.

We can't change what's happened in the past in terms of the bad things, misrepresentations, miscommunication, new bugs, old bugs not yet fixed (and we're hardly alone in this one), etc.

That's all water well under the bridge. I guess I've been trying to learn from my history and not repeat the mistakes of the past. Am I naive? Perhaps so...but I certainly feel better 'working' on DE ideas and proposals in a forum that's not dripping over the brim sometimes with animosity, despair and frustration. (note: I hope you remember that I know all about what those 'are' for us, etc.).

Oh yea, you think I'm just 'on the payroll' now or something.

No, but I have seen an absoulte 180 degree turn in you overnight. Again. You've changed your tune so many times I never know what to expect. Well, until now that is.

Yea...I guess I'm human. I have my days and change my mind depending on situations.

I have no campaign, but I have no tolerance for being told I should buy spin. Go back and read that thread above, comments you made one month ago today. An attitude that changed before your blue name even got turned on.

I don't happen to believe that one being able to changehis/her mind, attitude or outlook is a bad thing.

And it doesn't have to affect the quality or amount of communication.

THAT is the TK that people nominated, not the "We are getting goodies!" person who tries to justify every nerf and misstep the Dev team makes. It is undeniable, TK - do we need to make a list of all your postings and point each and every instance out? I know you are more self-aware than that, TK.

No...I don't need my past brought up. I know I've been as guilty of a 5-star rant as I have of a 5-star idea.

Also, you talk about the Devs making a misstep on some things. Would you not agree that some changes may well be really good for us (and the game at large) even though they sting at the time?

When I, or someone else, expresses a concern, and you act like the greeter at the Wal-Mart "have a nice day!", I'm sorry but it's very irritating. I would say the same thing no matter who you were - I don't buy snowballs in August. And the TK that used to post on these boards would agree.

Well, I can see why you say that, Audio. Were I in your shoes, I suppose I'd be looking at me with a strong eye of suspicion as well. Not sure how to solve that....I'm really not. I know that you know that I do this all for entirely selfless reasons. I didn't pine for this position. I do happen to believe that I can help move us ina good/better direction. That's my goal. If you think I'm missing the mark, tell me how I can do better.

Yes, the community was calling TK to the job. I haven't seen much of him in oh...about a month.

Well, to be fair, the first 2 weeks or so were pretty nutty for me for the changeover, Audio. It really is like jumping into ice cold water for awhile. Disconcerting and perspective-changing. That's the best way I can describe it. It doesn't mean that I am trying to 'snow' the DEs by any means.

I may be trying to put the best face on things but that's just me trying to do my part to turn lemons into lemonade. /shrug

As it turns out, I'm working on a post that I want to release concerning what happens in the shorter to longer term with us. It's similar to JustG's State of the Game post but specific to our issues and situation.

I figure it will be easier to do that to solve the going into waters with no idea of what's going to happen situation.
