Yes they are. Harvest Droids are especially loved by Riflemen but ultimately itdepending on how you like to hunt.

There has been quite a lot written around here about harvesting droids in the past week. Before any of us attempt to go into long explainations of the pros and cons of harvest droids, let me suggest that you look over the last ten days worth of this forum first. It's all good reading, but just skim for the stuff obviously labeled as being related to harvesting.
Also, the Droid Engineer's forum has a truly outstanding "Droids 101" article stickied at the top that goes far beyond what you are likely to get here concerning the official capabilities of Harvest Droids. I highly highly recommend reading it.
Any specific questions after that about how we each like to use them we'll all be glad to answer.

As of right now -
If you are solo, have the droid harvest and you may get more.
And the droid gets the bonus so it has to do the work, so you harvesting defeats the purpose.
If you are grouped, you are hosed, no bonuses for the droid.
Are they worth it? No. It's a one trick pony. It harvests. Group with it, it runs off if an AOE intimidate hits. Buh bye droid. See you in 150m.Wow, you get 10 extra units of resource per animal more - 90 units per mission. And me and my fighter dropped 3 lairs to your two, and got 500 units of resource more. And my fighter will "guard" even if I am down, preventing DBs.
Don't get me wrong, I love droids, have 4. Harvestor droids are a joke tho.
And I was soooo freaking nice I reported the bug about the harvs not getting any bonuses ungrouped. What a nice guy I am. (gag)

You use pistols though right? As a rifleman I really like my droid, because I can just lay prone and kill mobs and have my droid get the resources. And when you are laying incapped my harvesting droid runs you over and gets the resource and I continue to kill mobs.

As a TKM I have just started using my harvest droid. Not counting the new bonuses (should they get fixed for droids) I like it because it alows me to harvest immediately. Also I hate trying to sort through the piles of Bolle Bols to find the one I did not harvest. I kill, send, tab to the mob and repeat. It works very nicely. Now with the new bonuses I wont use it in a group, but it still works for the solo missions and hunts.

well, now that rangers have 150 creature harvesting knowledge upon reaching master ranger, is a droid really necessary?

you still get a bonus to your harvesting with a droid when not in a group, even at master ranger
