Thread: Harvesting Droids?

They have a tendency to run when they are attacked. What I usually did was to set them to the side prior to getting into combat and giving them a 'stay' command to keep them there. I'd then move away so that they hopefully wouldn't get attacked by the MOBs once they aggro'd.
Didn't always work but did most of the time.

I hate my harvesting droid, and it was supposedly a good one. However, I think my model was defective, because it harvested LESS than I did
I took Veghash and everything. Other people say they're great, but I can't even count the number of times I typed /punch while having that crappy little R3 targeted.

You asked about being a ranger. if this is your concern then a droid is not best a Master Rangers mod + veghash will yeild more of a harvest. However a 113 droid will be quicker. I have never had a problem with a corpse despawning before I got to it. With Camoflage I dont have to kill all the spawns just what I can if I dont aggro any creatures Then I just stand up and harvest go prone and resume the killing.

merdith that is good to hear ... was a bit concerned myselfafter reading this thread that once again Rangers were getting hosed. Rangers need some lovin and unfortunately I don't think you probably harvest more then enough to justify the point cost. Heres to upping the harvest yeild by a large percentage for rangers

Currently I am a Master Rifleman/Ranger4040 and my harv droid was a life saver when I started the grind since i couldn't always afford buffs or the best armors. I also hotkey'd my harv commands and ate veghash.
Unfortunately, once i started to get level 4's for my rifleman branches, I found the droid less and less useful (especially for power grinding xp) because you'd have to always call the droid out and store it, so it became an inconvenience. I say the harv droid is perfect if you are still new to any combat prof (go rifleman!) or going hunting unbuffed. As you get more powerful in your combat prof, the droidbecomes less useful and just slows you down.

Bad:
- Have to wait to get them out (open data pad, wait for the lag and the final 15 sec wait)
- You need to give the command to harvest before you go on attacking next creature and can not tell it to harvest next corpse until finished
- Slower to harvest than doing it yourself (a problem when you harvest after combat)
- In an intense fight it is hard to keep track of which creatures you have harvest or not (especially with area attacks)
Good:
- Increase harvest (pretty obvious lol)
- Can harvest when fighting
never had a problem with droid getting attacked and running away. Maybe it happens when creature is using an area attack?

A few tricks to prevent the runaway of your droid.
1. Don't group with the droid- Pull it out but do not issue command to group. It will still let you set target harvest as well as issue harvest commands. Because it is not in your group it will be far less likely to pull aggro and run away. Enemies using an AoE is about the only time it'll still run.
2. Get one combat module- One combat module will make him hang in and fight rather than scoot 500m away at the first sign of trouble. Like a storage module, this will decrease the harvesting effectiveness.
3. Use a flying/floating droid instead of an Adv. R3- again sacrificing harvesting power for a non-cowardly droid.
Drag and drop your droid from your datapad to a hotkey, and your harvest command as well. Eat Veghash (30+ or bettter, with duration long enough to clear two or more lairs per serving)

I am a near master ranger, and master rifleman.
I swear by Harvesting droids...first of all, you do not need a droid with a storage module, what my droid harvest's goes directly into my inventory..
I used to have a harvesting droid that had a storage space..I was hunting on yavin for over three hours, for some great scaley hide....little did i know that my droids inventory was full...so i probably harvest about 10k of hide...but i got none, because the inventory is full, and there is no message telling you when it is full.
Secondly never group with your droid. i used the follow command, and my droid usually sticks by me, if however it does run away, just /yell (insert follow command) and it will come back to you.
My droid harvest about 2-7 more units of resources than me, without Vegahash..if you use vegahash + droid + your own harvest mods, you might cap, and not get any more hide than if you didnt use vegahash..or so i have heard..

I heard that there are harvesting droids that give you a mod to your harvesting skill?
Is this true?
As a Ranger have any of you used them or use them?
Is it worth the investment?

The jury is very much out atm with the new group harvesting bonuses. It would seem that when hunting with another ranger, especially a master, the droids actually result in less resources being harvested, no matter what it's rating.
If you are solo and get a good harvest droid it will yield a greater harvest than you get yourself and can be very helpful if you are a ranged fighter. You can become very efficicent with them. If you fight melee I don't personally think they are that helpful.
