Thread: This Division is killing us

I have a question.
Do those in the 'No DE-only Combat Droid' camp have any objections to the idea of a Master DE only droid that is not related to combat?
Just trying to get an idea of what the real problem is...
I would not have a problem with that, Chris, and in fact I have suggested that very thing in multiple threads. My problem is not with a unique droid usable only by Droid Engineers, my problem is with that unique droid being a combat droid that is better than the combat droids that are usable by everyone.
Read carefully and you'll note that I also do not object to a unique DE-only combat droid provided that that unique droid is NOT better than the combat droid(s) that everyone can use. I'm not always clear about that in my posts, however, simply because 99% of the people posting in favor of a DE-only combat droid want it to be the best combat droid available.
Thanks for the replies!
Based on this, then, I wonder if it's possible to divide this problem into two issues - Combat Droids, and DE-only Droids - And find a compromise there?
Much of this debate seems to me to revolve around assumptions and misunderstandings. "DE-Only Combat Droids" was floated rather nebulously in the Plan, and things have progressed from there, but perhaps we're being too confined by that label.
Combat Droids first - I can't speak for others, of course, but all I really want is to be able to sell a good, worthwhile combat droid, and to be able to control the droids that I make. A combat droid that has some sort of restriction upon its use can be better than a combat droid usable by anyone, and I'm in favour of that - But, the "DE-Only Combat Droid" seems to be the only thing that we've been offered in that regard.
Then, there's the other aspect: DE-Only droids in general. Some people want something to show for having achieved MDE, and I get the impression that the Devs have that sort of opinion also - Lets give droid engineers their own special droid, as a "neat" profession perk...
But there's no reason why a DE-only droid has to be related to combat, or even why a DE-only perk has to be another droid at all (personally, the DE perk that I really want is the ability to call multiple utility droids).
Likewise, there's no reason why a certificate-restricted combat droid has to be DE-only. Sure, I'd really like to automatically have the certification for it just by being a DE, but that's in addition to whatever other ways there are of getting that certification - Be it from Squad Leader, Bounty Hunter, any Master Combat Profession, any Elite Profession of any kind, or whatever. Even if DEs don't get that certification for free, if I can get it with my remaining skill points I won't object too strongly (well, okay, maybe a bit). It is, after all, possible to be a BE / CH, or a Rifleman / Weaponsmith.
Is there any particular reason why that sort of thingmight be objectionable to either side?
If not, shouldn't we be concentrating on outlining for the Devs what we actually do want, rather than on what's misleading about what they've said?
The only compromise i can see to something like this is if these special schematics were only able to be gotten through Imperial and Rebel recruiters. And in order to use them you needed to be a certain rank and a certain level of Droid Engineering skill. And if you still feel they should be makable by us, then maybe the devs should make it where in order for you to even see the schematics for them in your crafting tool, you need to be A) an Overt Imperial or a Rebel. B) be of a certain rank in your faction. c) Be a Master Droid Engineer.
which for me means i'd never ever see them and really wouldn't care if i did because i'm not going to go overt just to make a droid.
