Thread: How about some Pit Droids? Wouldn't you like to repair that (Disabled) AV-21 vehicle?

Interesting, so say the act of the droid repairing would cause complete wounding to action or mind pool, and a repair kit would be required.

I still think im partial to stacks of one-time use droids, only because of the sales end of it. I think if they were expendable rather than repairable, there would be a lot more repeat business at your vendor.

Would love some feedback on this idea for a new, expendable utility droid:

The PIT DROID

(You know, the little twittering things that you hit on the nose to make 'em fold up. Seen in EP1-2)

Purpose:
The Pit Droid would perform vehicle repairs in the field. It would be a disposable droid with a set number of charges based on quality of the droid. Each use would take a vehicle from any damaged state or Disabled and return it to full working order*.

This Droid would sit in the inventory like a bounty hunter droid. When the last charge is used it should disappear (destroy itself).
The secondary purpose of this droid is easily explained. When the game designers state the need for a 'money sink,' e.g. Vehicle Garages, the Droid Engineers watch all the credits going by. They tentatively raise a hand and say, "Uh...can I have some of those credits?" This would give DE something to sell even to people that don't use combat or utility droids.

* In order for this to have meaning the "fix your vehicle for free" bug would need to be fixed. This is the bug where you can: 1) Place your vehicle out, 2) Take a shuttle flight to a different planet or across a 'server boundary,' then 3) Store and Generate the vehicle from your datapad and it will be fully repaired.

Gameplay:

Any character should be able to use this droid to repair their vehicle or somebody else's (without permission). Repairs should take about 15-60 seconds and be accompanied by the noise and animation of the Pit Droid (most of which you can steal from the movies).

Materials suggestion:

Pit droid:
200 Non-Ferrous Metal

100 Ferrous Metal

75 Chemical

5 Gemstone

1x Droid Brain

1x Droid Sensor

1x Electronics Memory Module (for repair data)

Give 1 charge per 10% quality or so, 11 charges for a 100% droid.

Badass! Great suggestion. Some feedback:

1. The devs need and want money sinks. If DEs are getting that cash, then the money is not really leavign the game. How about, DEs sell the pit droids, but they operate as a MOBILE vehicle garage.

2. Additional suggestion: PIT DROIDS REPAIR ATSTs!!!

Now thats another good idea, im not involved in the GCW so i dont know much about faction pets but i have heard that ATSTs are too easy to kill for the faction point cost. That would make DE quite a valuable profession in terms of the GCW.

And so, in your considered opinion, there should be no repeat vehicle sales for the Artisan Profession... is that it? None at all? And you dont think this is a "bit" shortsighted?

No, there shouldn't. There isn't one now.If you are trying to make a in-game living as just a plain old Master Artisan then maybe you should rethink that or sell powerups or something. Vehicles take more resources than a house does, one expects a little resilience.

Oh... a note from "Real Life"... you can repair a sportscar as many times as is desired or necessary... but, there comes a time when making such a repair cost's MORE than the vehicle's current Blue Book Market Value. This is called "Depreciation" and while "Depreciation" is not a palpable thing, it is none the less "a real and observable monetary effect"... and THAT isof the things that makes the Real World's economy go around. When you've lived a few more years on your own.. you'll accept and appreciate this concept.

This is not real life - it is a game economy. While the basic rules of economics can apply, they may not. When you've lived a few more years on your own, you may be able to differentiate the two cases more precisely.

Handsnake is correct in stating that the 'death decay' on faction pets would be / is BAD when applied to vehicles.

1. Edited that into original post

2. /SHRIEK EVIL! Don't see it happening unless it costs LOTS of credits for the parts.

The only thing we are giving up by making these pit droids a stack of one-time use items is seeing the actual droid in the game. Now while i would love to see a little guy running around the bike repairing, possibly colapse as seen in EP 1 when the repairs are completed, thats probably not gonna happen as we have drawn out the plans for these droids. Any thoughts on that, oh fellow spammers and flammers?

Yeah... I have a thought. When the things are repairing a droid, show them doing it. Also have them displayable like all other droid chassis will be in Publish 8.

Other than that, I really don't want to see them around all the time. The noise is about as obnoxious as the MSE droid noise.

Yeah more graphix means more objects to load. Plus id like to stress again that i really think they should act like batteries (stack in iventory and consumable). And an item as such wouldnt get a graphic representation, especially since the artist are hard at work on the SE.

Sounds like an awsome idea! Will this be presented to the devs? One can only hope they could put a small, tiny droid that repairs vehicles and thier effeciency depending on how well they are made. Makes garages a, you know exacly the charge deal, and the pit droids, you save if your DE is good at what he does.

I love this idea! Additional comments:

1) Pit droids can repair anything! (harvesters, vehicles, droids, etc)

2) Instead of little resource droids flying in, just let the pit droid say "It will take 3456 credits of resources to repair your vehicle".

3) Pit droids need not have black bar damage, just sucking up batteries is damaging enough. =P

4) Make pit droids non-combat to avoid exploding droid syndrome or Pit Droid Ninjas

5) No freakin modules are placeable in pit droids, their ability to repair stuff is innate (as droids should be)

6) Droid repair module is de facto component in pit droids

7) Make a droid generic crafting module a de facto component in pit droids too, allowing people to craft vehicles or whatever generic stuff while they are out

nice ideas, i dont agree with #7 really, i have plenty of other droid mounted crafting stations. If they are not gonna have a HAM bar then they are gonna be a consumable and shouldnt have a crafting station. The repair kit tho, i agree with. I mean we cant have anything thats easy to build (/sarcasmoff).

I agree with no combat modules, but when you said "Pit Droid Ninjas" i almost lost it, thats hilarious.
