I dont see them implementing it (or any other type of droid for that matter) but I do like the idea... but I dont like the 50% and 10% ideas.. thats a little high.... figuring 1% a repair would only allow 100 repairs and 10% to repair a disable would be good fair % to work with. Figuring on how fast my speeder and swoop take damage... 1% would add up fast

Hate to play devil's advocate on this one, but how will Master Artisans ever sell new vehicles? Once everyone owns their 3 favorite vehicle types, those customers will never come back to purchase another of those types. They can just grab a 500 credit droid and repair it from being disabled. A better solution would be to allow the Pit Droid to return a vehicle from disabled to working condition but at the cost of half of the vehicle's total max condition. And every repair that the person does using the Pit Droid when the vehicle is not disabled would make the vehicle condition drop by like 10% or so.

Good! Several points:

1) There's no repeat business now, so what difference will it make if people can repair from disabled?

2) Seems like SOE should have the vehicles destroy completely if they want us to buy a new one. I like the decay but also feel that the rates you suggest are too high, maybe 10% and 2% decay rates on Pit Droid repairs would be more appropriate.

3) I think that with this development team, the Devil does not need more advocates.

forget new droids... the devs would only implement it poorly. I can see it now...

Pit droids with combat modules!

Exploding pit droid grenades!

Combat pit droids that can't kill a nuna!

and my favorite...

cant repair your combat pit droid, cause you cant call a repair droid at the same time!!!

I'd like to see pit droids for remtoe vehical repair myself. Why not be able to pull out the droid, have him tell you what the cost will be for repair, pay for the repair and have the money sent to the same place it goes when we do garage repairs?

Darth brings up a good point. Although complicated, this would work to both help DE's and be a money sink for players...that makes everyone happy. Here's how it could work:

  1. Pit Droid has some set amount of points (experimentation during crafting allows for a greater point pool)

  2. Each point is equal to one credit's worth of repair

  3. Pit Droid can be recharged at the Vehicle Garage where it picks up "spare parts and such" (at the cost of however many pointswere used in the field)

  4. Pit Droid will enable player to repair vehicle out in the field as if standing next to a garage

  5. Disabled vehicles are not able to be repaired

The money sink is key. Frankly, I'd like to see us pay a premium (maybe +2-3 credits per HAM point) on repair with a pit droid in the field. The cost is justified by the convenience of the protable repair. I can't think of a single money sink that should be removed from the game, vehicle repairs included.

The original idea was for pit droids to be expendable, aka Arakyds.

Furthermore, if the pit droid COULD repair disabled (Garages Do Nothing) then we have a win/win situation:

1. Disabled vehicle repair - Garages do NOT repair disabled vehicles. People need their vehicles. The whole "buy another one" is not a valid nor a fair situation . Vehicles already have the durability of a bucket of cheese - why make them utterly useless for faction players?

2. Limited charges - This ensures that (1) the pit droids are used to pull up a vehicle from disabled, or to make emergency repairs in the field. They would then self decay.

The upshot is that the pit droids (say, 4k a piece) would be used to make a vehicle driveable, so that they could be taken to a garage. Also, by using up more pit droids, a ranger for example could stay out in the field and keep his vehicle repaired (at a higher cost than a garage).

We would get the following:

1) Renewable sales - repeat buyers for pit droids

2) Garage repairs being 'worth it'

3) No tissuepaper/disposable vehicles option ('dead disabled' is a bad idea for faction players - too many resources go into a swoop to make them tissuepaper. I'd sell FEWER vehicles and fewer droids, since most would just buy a mount in disgust and would not be able to call any droids = no demand for ANY new droids )

And so, in your considered opinion, there should be no repeat vehicle sales for the Artisan Profession... is that it? None at all? And you dont think this is a "bit" shortsighted?

Oh... a note from "Real Life"... you can repair a sportscar as many times as is desired or necessary... but, there comes a time when making such a repair cost's MORE than the vehicle's current Blue Book Market Value. This is called "Depreciation" and while "Depreciation" is not a palpable thing, it is none the less "a real and observable monetary effect"... and THAT isof the things that makes the Real World's economy go around. When you've lived a few more years on your own.. you'll accept and appreciate this concept.

Total loss of annual revenue (SOE): ~$715US to ~$900US

Should Sony and Lucas Arts be worried? (15000 users * 5 accts = ~$13MIL in potential lost gross annual revenue) If I were the CEO for either LA or SOE, I would certainly be worried.

While i love to read/post/receive a good flame, lets not lose the discussion in the fire.

I think he was trying to make a point about PvP (correct me if im wrong) in that vehicles can and are destroyed easily. In this case he is right it is not fair for someone to have to buy a new vehicle especially if they were out (say TEFed) surveying and someone shot their bike in an attempt to kill them.

It was mentioned about the droids being expendable. How about progressively black lining the droid with each use. Then a DE could regen the bugger to last longer.
