Hello!

From an Architect's point of view, I wouldn't mind having to by droids for my factory. How else does all those mods get made So it's a bit off subject but I think that driods or droid components should go into making a factory. As for buildings why not a droid repair shop....something like Wattos'

Two words:

DROID ARENA

bring ur droid, make bets and let em fight while ppl watch it and win or lose money on em...

A circular pit with seats and a terminal where ppl can put in there droids and initiate fights with them others can watch. On bet terminals people can bet money on the winner.

I like Sigma's Idea of scrapyard.. In the scrapyard Id personally like to see the ability to put in your droid, weapon, armor whatever that you want.. maybe add another metal to the mix...

I would like to see a new metal called "recyclium" or something that classifies as generic metal.

That generic metal would pop out and you could in essence recycle your goofs or used stuff for a batch of metal to make more.

also where you add your droid and have its core componants removed.. not the metal used to make it, but like the control chips, storage compartments, etc.removed..

Though there was a light hearted post on here of a line where you can crush your droids intoa small square..

This is a serious way to do that. and then you can use that "recycled" droid for metal in your next endevor.

I spend way too much time throwing away metal when I am training. If you have ever played an artisan, and any elite artisan class, you know your class will spend more money than any other class. At least if we are able to recycle more than just droids and get at least a small portion of metal back form our mistakes or trainning left overs, we can at least feel a little better knowing some of the strain is lifted..

Besides, Its a good message to the players.. Recycle! right?

Not if you have to pay for the service and for the maintance. Could actually add up to more of a moneysink since it would be convienent.

the maint & coston that would have to high to make it a money sink, making recycling almostnot worth it.

Unless they made schematics that required recycled metal.

resources = money in this game, if you recycle resources instead of make them disappear even at any loss, your delaying the moeny sink, if making it a money sink at all. That structure itself would require so much tuning and re-tuning to make sure its a sink, but not so much of a sink that it makes it usless, that it would take too much dev time away from more important things.

Great ideas gentlemen and ladies. I have posted this thread link on the correspondent forum for the DEVs perusal.

I have no idea how much combat droids will cost for a regular player to own, but I know that there will be times that they will want some extra firepower without necessarily being committed to buying a droid outright.

For this reason, I think it would be keen to have a sort of droid rental station.. where you could go to a building, pay a fee (perhaps an optional insurance fee, like renting a car) and get an escort of armed droids. When you are finished doing your dangerous tasks (can you say, "harvester runs on LOK"?), you return the droids to the rental building where they are repaired, maintained, etc.. and you pay for any damages that they suffered (unless you bought the insurance).

All the droids in these establishments would be DE-crafted, DE-repaired/maintained, and profit the DE who sponsored the building.

Just a thought.

I know they are looking for money drains. I am supportive of that.

However to balance out the money draining, I think its fair for us to
get recycled metal. Since we pay many times more than any profession.

Im not asking for an over load of recycled metals, Im looking for a small percentage.

If my bot took 50 metal I get back 5 units of recyclium metal..

So its not a total waste.

Again I dont think this is imbalancing in the least.

If all I had to worry about was buying weapons and armor every once in a while, It would be different, but I have to pay for harvesters/materials, maintence, generators, vendors (I sell my stuff), I think getting a little bit back is fine.

I like the idea of the rental center. Interesting income making oppourtunity. However, I disagree that it would be a DE operated building. To me, that sounds much more along the lines of a Merchant activity. That is the trade that is supposed to offer the buy/sell/trade abilities in SWG. In fact, I like the idea so much, and can see it applying to many other professions (eg CHs renting out creatures/mounts and people with vehicles) that I'm going to wander over to the Merchant forum and suggest such a thing....

Yeah..the rental thingwould apply well to all the different professions.

I definately think the DEs should get a constant flow of cash from such a thing though.. even if it is maintained by a merchant. I understand that the money would come from the merchant buying more droids to rent as they are destroyed, but sincedroids no longer perma-die, there'd be no need to keep buying droids after the rental shop is stocked... just the few to keep the selection from getting stale. That's why the DE supplier should be treated as much like a business partner (who gets a cut of net revenue) as the supplier of the goods.

Just trying to cover our butts!

Droid oil baths and recharging, droid arena, and rental station are all better than anything I could think of. Even a little stand up charging post that someone could own, deposite power into, and sell droid recharges would be cool. I think that we should also petition that whatever they come up with it looks like this:

I like the police/millitary idea. Attacking the control center should launch all stored droids to defend it, and it should have high hitpoints. BUT, if destroyed, all droids based there would go offline. This would make defending cities kinda fun, and keep troublemakers out.

Example:

Criminal A and Criminal B, both on the towns wanted list walk into starport and start a shootout. If the droids were programmed to stop duels (in a more civilized city) a squad of troops would show up and incapp both of them. If they start again, then the droids take them out again. Ina more criminal city, droids could be programmed to only defend residents, ect. This idea could also work for troops in factioned cities...but the troops would cost fp to give the DE a market.

Troops=fp, strong, fewer of them

Droids=resources, lots of them, slightly weaker. ( a criminal could take a few out and then retreat, unless they were the more expensive droidekas)

My only concern about special buildings that give increased or modified stats and experimentation is that the benefits are available to everyone in the game who wants to use it.

I know having your own personal droid building where you could crank out uber droids would be cool, and would make a DE position in a town a highly valued position. But that would put every other DE on the planet out of business or comparatively relegate them back to 'novice' status.

As far as specific droid related buildings, there are some really good ideas here.

I always wanted to see the junkyard type of building that little Ani worked in Ep I (oh why can't I remember that toads name...). The actual POI in game disappointed me a little - OK, alot.

But I think the success of immersion, besides actual functionality, will depend on decorating. Please let us place items in city buildings and GIVE US UP/DOWN COMMANDS!

This way everyone won't look exactly the same and the devs don't have to create a bunch of different designs like all the gardens - just give us the pieces/parts and let us go.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."
