These ideas/points might have been posted already, but:

I'm assuming that Certification has been given as an option already, like a "Droideka Certification" or a "Super Battle Droid Certification" in different trees. (Like perhaps a Commando gets a Droideka for their weapon understanding, and BH get an Assassin droid while Fencers get a Droideka for it's superior ranged abilities, etc)

I know they say this is unbalancing, but I think a big concern is how it would affect PvP. In PvE we can relate droids to having Doctors buffs or Chef buffs. Either of these can greatly enhance a players power. Doctor Enhancements turn the player into 3x the warrior they previously were, I've been able to stay down taking blows from a Piket for 9 dizzy minutes straight before the thing died of a Health Bleed I gave it thanks to Doctor buffs.

So in PvE it could be just another balancing ability, perhaps capping even the strongest droids stats in ways that complement the profession they're certified in but don't let them overpower the player.

Then, to keep things even, make these droids unable to attack other humans. There are3 possible ways to do this:

1. Droids can attack only NPC's of other factions or hostile NPC's, but not players.

2. Droids cannot attack ANY humanoid creatures.

3. Droids can only attack other Faction or Hostiles. (Meaning a Rebel could use a droid to attack an Imperial, but they couldn't be used in duels, etc.)

Keep in mind that 1 and 3 are both semi-true with the ability of the AT-ST for Imperials. I know many say that these are useless due to their inhealability, but I know that if someone pulls one on me, if I don't have at least 2 or 3 other players running backup that know what they're doing, I'm getting my TK butt out of there. Fast.

Allowing these in PvE is not really any more powerful than allowing a player to have an AT-ST. Even though they cannot be healed, AT-ST's do insane amounts of damage and are resistant to just about everything now. (especially since they're pretty resistant to fire now)

Another possible solution is for some higher level Droids:

High level droids as Faction pets. (To tame the droid deed a player needs X amount of faction points, some droids limited to certain factions)
