Thread: What is P O K E M O N and why was it banned or filtered in this forum?

I agree though... the Creature/Pets thing is out of control.
Non-CH's should NOT be allowed to have pets. Period. That would be the first logical reduction in rampant pet ownership. ~J
Then is it your belief that only Creature Handlers should be allowed to have creature mounts?
POKE/\/\ON was banned because some whining creature handler posted a thread asking for it to be banned.
2 minutes after his thread went up, the word was filtered.
The CH contingent on the boards and is very large and very vocal, hehe. The CH forum has four times the posts of any other forum except BH and Jedi, and has more posts than any *galaxy* forum except for Eclipse (I guess Eclipse folks post a lot, hehe).
Any discussion about pets quickly devolves into a flamefest and any perceived "anti-pet" post is one starred andCH posts are five-starred.
And per Holo's post yesterday it's not only the most common profession, it's the most commonly mastered profession.
SoE has painted themselves into a corner here - they've acknowledged pets are a problem in the game, and that the profession is popular because it's very powerful. But for that very same reason they risk pissing off the largest percentage of their customers by trying to do anything about it.
And also, I'd imagine, when it comes time to fix bugs and issues are they going to focus on popular professions or on the less popular ones? Even though many of the less popular ones are probablythat way because they're largely broken or ineffective.
I have hope though, Commando was horribly broken at the beginning of retail and you never saw any Commandos. And now... =)

What about Pet Wars? I think that it was a B-Movie once. If you do a google for "pet wars" every link is related to SWG. Funny stuff.

I seriously doubt that there was any actual legal threats thrown at SOE. What I really think happened is that, just like with the closing of the forums to public view, SOE doesn't want people to realize the truth: that the creature handling aspects of this game almost exactly mirror that of Poke/\/\on franchise.
I find it very distasteful that they have resorted to censoring this word. I will not cease using the term "|7okemon" to describe how the game has evolved, because it's a very fitting and highly descriptive term. Hormel foodsonce attempted to block people from using the term "Spam" to describe junk emails, even though when I get junk email, I don't instantly think of a potted meat product.
It's obvious that this creature handling system is so mickey-mouse, it's not even funny. Oh! I'd better take that back, here's comes DisneyCorp with their suede-denim secret police.
When I run through the streets of Theed and am surrounded by the myriad of creatures jumping out of people's pokedexes, there is a few words that come into my mind, most of which are also censored by this board. No matter how you slice it my friend, it's still "Pokem0n", plain and simple.
No, the whiners were distasteful for using that word EVERY 5 SECONDS! It was simply annoying, it literally caused people to stop coming to the forums. I'm GLAD they censored it, and I will cheer when they censor "Monster Rancer", "Digimon" and any other such shows I may have missed. It's refreshing to see a company finally slap people for abusing a name to an extreme level.
Yeah, the term was redundant, and widely used.
But ya know what? There was a legitimate reason for that. The term was widely used simply because of the glaring problem of Creature Handlers and Pets being everywhere. I think a lot of people see the filtering of "pokeymon" as being a way to sweep the debate under the carpet.
That approach seems more distasteful than anything the Whiner Community can come up with.

SOE was threatened by a lawsuit from the developers of P O K E M O N for using that word on their website (IE. Forums = Website even though SOE has not control over it). To keep the lawsuit from going to court SOE banned/filtered the word.
I find that hard to beleive.. Id really like to see some kind of press release on that. Then again, people waste so much time with lawsuits its amazing. Like that guy who recently sued McDonalds for making him fat!
Next to Baseball, suing is America's favorie pastime.
