Thread: What is P O K E M O N and why was it banned or filtered in this forum?
I seriously doubt that there was any actual legal threats thrown at SOE. What I really think happened is that, just like with the closing of the forums to public view, SOE doesn't want people to realize the truth: that the creature handling aspects of this game almost exactly mirror that of Poke/\/\on franchise.
I find it very distasteful that they have resorted to censoring this word. I will not cease using the term "|7okemon" to describe how the game has evolved, because it's a very fitting and highly descriptive term. Hormel foodsonce attempted to block people from using the term "Spam" to describe junk emails, even though when I get junk email, I don't instantly think of a potted meat product. 
It's obvious that this creature handling system is so mickey-mouse, it's not even funny. Oh! I'd better take that back, here's comes DisneyCorp with their suede-denim secret police.
When I run through the streets of Theed and am surrounded by the myriad of creatures jumping out of people's pokedexes, there is a few words that come into my mind, most of which are also censored by this board. No matter how you slice it my friend, it's still "Pokem0n", plain and simple.
They probably put it on the list because it was so inflamitory - which is why I personally never used it on the boards. That, and yeah, because they don't want people making fun of the game on the boards.
A few of my guild mates are CH's, and at one point, made a poke-mon joke... it didn't go over well, and these guys are good in-game friends.
SOEshould just buy the rights to **edit** and change the name of this game accordingly. It more closely resembles **edit** then it does Star Wars, afterall...

wow... not only did they filter the actual spelling, but now they're filtering iterations of the word P 0 k e m 0 n.
You can't even spell it with zeros now!

This is so obviously NOT a legal issue. They're just ticked that this game is being called out for what it actually is!

I say we petetion SOE to put a picture of picachu with a lightsaber as if he's yoda on the box cover though.

And ya know what? Japan is a crafty business land. I'll bet we can find hundreds of pocket-pet type cartoon names to use instead. They'll have to ban them all until just stands up and screams, "In SWG everyone is just pulling huge monsters out of their butts!!!!!"
Didn't know about the filter but I call bull on a lawsuit. Looks more like they want to cover up an embarassing fact.
I agree Virtanis...I find it a little insulting actually that they think we'll ignore it if they drop a filter in instead of acknowledging a problem.

The funny thing is that P word in japanese means pocket monsters. And thats exactly what this game turned in to, everyone pulling a monster out of their pockets to fight for them.
I can see why the producers of the show were mad at SOE, Starwars turned in to an online version of their show. And I can see why SOE would make sure that their product was not seen as an online version of that show as that was not their intention at all. They just did not have any forsight about what would happen with CHs and their never ending supply of pets. Pets I might add that cant even be killed, while there was a 2 and a half week period when droids could be killed. And they wondered why everyone started calling this game the P word.

Maybe SOE got the hint then to in the future nerf the CH pets or boost the droid pet selection to make this game as different as possible to the "P" type game.
POKE/\/\ON ?it 'was' a banned word. You can type it now.
Japan is the kindom of animation. POKE/\/\ON is one of them.
Oh yea Ge0rge Luca3 is also baned (spelled in l33t so you would know what i am talking about..)
Possibly just on TC though.
So ill test it out..

I agree though... the Creature/Pets thing is out of control.
Non-CH's should NOT be allowed to have pets. Period. That would be the first logical reduction in rampant pet ownership. ~J
