Became Master Artisan before becoming DE. Thank God I did. Did sell electronics for a while, but then decided to use them myself.

And that is the point.

Very few MA's have that much time to devote to a single customer.

If MA's were running around everhwere it would be easy - but this is one place that interdependence just went way, way too far. It's TOTAL dependence.

And this is the crux of my issues with SWG at the moment, and it's skill system.

I'd be a MUCH happier camper if I didn't have to fill three useless skill trees (for me, since I don't use vendors any more) just to make those dang four parts.

For 1000 units in a schematic, don't use the slider, manually type "1000" into the number box

As for MA, I don't have it and am regretting it. I thought I could buy the items I needed but the cost was too high for what I was getting and I was never able to find an alternate source.

On a related note, I also have an armoursmith. Armoursmiths can't make any armour without large amounts of synth cloth or more advanced cloths from the tailor line. Even the lowest armourweave stuff requires sythetic cloth (a novice tailor item) making them completely dependent on tailors. However I have never had any trouble finding factory crates of synthetic cloth at reasonable prices. It might just be because its a different server, or tailors are more willing to make factory crates of cloth than MA's are to make components. I don't know *shrug*.

I do not have MA. What I do have is a couple factoriesand several schematics I had a MA make for me.

I'm debating whether or not to drop Master Artisan (I'm a MA / MDE).

Of course I'd never buy the Master Artisan parts... With what any MA would consider a bare-bottom price would still lead me to losing money after I make the droid (One advanced R2 or R3 with the works has21 MA parts? You've got to be kidding. What about for a Converse droids.. MA parts in them can go up to like 26.) Finding a MA and getting a schematicwould be the only plausible thing to do, although it would get real old real fast doing that.

The other thing I'm thinking of trying is stockpiling the resources for the MA parts (which I have done for the most part) and then making myself ohhh... 150 schematics for these parts and storing them in a droid!

This could be risky... but it would be kind of likea personal victory for the DE as he/she overcomes the suckiness of both data modules and having to have Master Artisan

It's called subcontracting. You don't have to make every component for your droid. The appeal of being independent though is tantalizing.

I dont have MA...but for me its just a simply matter of getting one of my guildies to run me a scematic....plop down a couple factorires run 1000 memory modules/control units/gp modules THen make another run for like micro sensor suites and your set for a bit.

Audio,

I don't have MA, unfortunately. I think that I'll have to subcontract a few MAs to build up some schematics for me (1000 a piece) after I get the resources needed.

I do think it's kind of silly that we all have to grind out MA if we want these parts. I understand why the Devs did it this way but that doesn't mean I like it.

I like the suggestion above about getting MA, grinding out like 150 schematics and then surrendering the skill (till I need it again). That really shouldn't be the answer though...

For now, I'll just have to get the best resources I can find, buy a factory and find a good, knowledgable MA to make me "amazing" schematics.

If you're that kind of person, and you're on Ahazi, send me a /tell or in-game email....let's do business.

How many droids do you make though?

From what I can read, there are three types of people here - one, who is like me, and has MA because they don't feel like they have a choice; two, people who have another account in their family; three, those who get schematics/items from guilds.

Unless you are very low volume, or have a built-in MA to work for you, I simply can't imagine it. I'd have to have a player running a factory 4-6 hours/day working for me, at least. Even schematics aren't a long term soloution - people keep mentioning 1000-run schematics and though it used to work for me I can't get it any more - I'm pretty sure they fixed it. Besides, with resources shifting every few days on some servers, it's impossible for that to be a viable long-term soloution, meaning you have to seek out new schematics constantly (and it's hard enough to get people to part with schematics, at least in my experience).

I guess I'll drop the subject now - I really have tried to make it work with some of these ways, and have yet to be able to do it as a permanent soloution. I just sell too many droids to find someone to make me 75-100 parts every time I log in to play.

Audio,

Why not just find an MA you trust to crank out like 10 or 15 schematics for you??!!

This is what I'll have to do since I abhor the idea of having to take MA just to be able to make droids. This aspect of our profession stinks as it is anyway. I guess I know why they did it but there has to be a better way.

Along those lines...

Can I buy an MA's draft schematics? Will that work?

I've never tried it before but it seems like finding a tailor / WS / AS that doesn't care about those parts would sell me his/her draft schematics.

Thoughts?

I've been a master DE for over a month and never trained MA. I'm always short on skill points since I'm also a commando and merchant <-- recently dropped to advanced further on commando.

I have no problems at all getting the schematics from a master artisan. I have a few close MA friends who would be more than happy to create the schematics for me and even if they're not around I simply used player search to find a MA and none had declined my offer so far.

It used to be a little annoying with the factory bug but now since it's fixedI could simply get a schematic of 1000, dump it in the factory and I'll have 40 crates waiting for me in the hopper the next day. I have a ton of resource so I could afford making 1000 at a time (but I do use those parts up fast). The only thing I'll have to buy are the MSS but that's because I was too lazy to facotry make them myself but 800 credits a piece is cheap compared to the profit I make from a probot.

I actually liked asking my fellow MAs to make the schematics for me. AllI have to do is hand them the resources and I don't even have to look at those craftign screens! I'm getting sick of them from making droid parts! LOL and MA usually make quite a few units until they could experimentit over80% effectiveness for me (hmm.. does it even make a difference?).

So, it is possible to survive without MA and it is not tough atall. Just need to spend 10min every 1-2 weeks asking for a few schematics of 1000.

I gave it up for architect. My wife's character has master artisan, so I still have the ability in house. I couldnt survive otherwise.

I read the other post and the example about power droids is even worse. A power droid requires a power core unit and that costs more to make than the cost of any other droid we can produce. It is pretty cool to pull out the power droid and recharge another droid, but why own one when you cant have more than 1 droid out and batteries are far cheaper.

Weaponsmith requires MA components for only one weapon if i recall correctly. DE should be adjusted accordingly. The DEVs said they would fix the color issue with armorsmiths. The armorsmith/tailor level of dependency is the same as the MA/DE relationship. I think all other crafting classes should have the same level of interdepentcy as DE and armorsmith. For an architect I need GP and EMMs for torches and data terminals. I can live without producing those.

I think the DEVs should look at the reason behind MA. Why does the general population need it? to make bird cages? nope! only DEs NEED it. In my mind they need to move all the components over to DE. It will increasethe need to have DEs.The compromise would be to give some other component up to another crafting skill.

To be fair to the armorsmiths they should remove the requirement for factory produced synth cloth on Mabari armor. that kills a novice. Imagine not being able to make a mouse droid unless you got a light power core unit from an architect or a weaponsmith not being able to make a D18 (nobody does anyway) without some synth cloth for the pistol handle. There needs to be equal distribution of difficulty.

I have tried all four engineer off shoots and architect is by far the easiest. No grinding necessary. I am 4 boxes away from master architect after 2 weeks and no power gaming. (cant say that about MDE) Only a couple hours a day at most. I think novice architect should only be able to make furniture. I am a civil engineer in RL and i would never give an architect coming out of college a design to make a house. So, fellow DEs go become an architect while we wait for DE to be fixed. I recommend going up the installations tree first so that you can make the harvesters and factories you will need for the onslaught of combat droids.

I've never had master artisan, and while it was a little rough while getting supply lines set up, I just make schematics for 1000 of my parts and let em run, even when I was doing 100 at a time it wasn't too muchof a problem, just meant running to my factory more often. none of these MA's are in my family, most are just other players I make that I get to make schematics for me, generally in exchange for some time in my factory or some storage modules or something. I'm not really having a problem with supply, and I sell alot of droids.
