Thread: Goodbye my fellow DEs

Blue, I don't doubt that we'll be getting fixes down the line. I disagree with the way they've gone about it, however. The bug fixes should have been first in line, then move on to new content, unless that new content will make the bugs obsolete. In this case, a DH/DC/DM profession (or the addition of new combat droids, however they are implemented, be it certs or whatever)will not make the majority of those bugs obsolete. The current bugs must be fixed, because, undoubtably, a new profession/system will contain many bugs of its own, and we risk getting forgotten because new bugs are added before getting our bugs fixed.

And with regard to the CH/BE/Chef reworks, I believe only the CH one was necessarily game-breaking. The BE's and Chefs weren't any more broken than other professions are/were. We've been constantly told we're next in line, but it seems people keep getting bumped up ahead of us.

Simple answer is: Yes.

Long answer: They did approach us months ago, back when TH made his infamous exploding-mse-droid post. He posted "here's what I think you guys are after having read your forums. Is this correct?". Had we said yes to that one, we would have code arriving now for us to play with. Since we said no, back to square one and run around in circles again starting the clock from zero.

They did approach us months ago, but through TH, who has nothing to do with actual game design, and who is not a crafter. He said this himself. If he doesn't understand game design or a crafter's perspective (much less a DE's perspective), how in the world can he expect to represent our ideas to the devs? I'll admit, he's getting better, but he was brand-spanking-new when that first MSE-bomb thread erupted, and it truly showed how the major issues (more utility, bug fixes) were being ignored, even at that point...

I should point out I'm a programmer as well. I also run the company now. The problem isn't the developers.

As I said, it's management and Thunderheart. It's very obvious.

I can't make it any more plain than that.

Ok ok ok! Enough of this hijacking of the thread!

It totally sucks to see you go, Sly. I was good seeing at least one or two REAL MDEs in my travels. I don't know why I keep at it. I just re-organized my shop and expanded my stock ( now that I know I don't have to save up for new chasis production). People are telling me they can't find a reliably stocked shop of droids anymore. I suppose business is good but I'm soooooo sick of explaining bugs and deficiencies to my customers. I supose I've made a couple million in droids but I can estimate I've made at least twice that in resources. It's sad that I can't offer my customers superior performance with master level droids in comparison to sub-master. I'll probably stop at 10 million and chase my Homocrons.

And you're so right about the Devs. Lousy management can sink even the best work.

lol, no problem, I figured we had posted at the same time, as the times are identical

It seems there has been a mass exodus of sorts lately. A lot of the "old timers" are packing up and leaving. Sad to see you go Sly....

There are still a lot of us old-timers left too, just we're not as vocal. What saddens/annoys me is that all these people are leaving before anything has been decided based on nothing more than a few words here and there. Until we actually see code hit TC, it's all just words. Who knows, maybe you guys have had an influence, but you're quitting only halfway through the journey without ever seeing the end result on the horizon. I have far less respect for those that drop out now because of these issues (those that just want to try something else, differnt story. Just talking about those that cite this DH thing as a reason for quitting now), rather than waiting until the code arrives to see what is really there and then packing up and leaving in protest.

Don't forget Blue... much anger and resentment fills these halls, not because of any specifics of the DH plan, but because of the veritable feast of horsesh*t fed to us by a certain, special someone....

We all know who I'm talking about.

We've gotten nothing but words from the devs. No straightforward plan, nothing, for over 7 months. If they keep moving the horizon further away, we'll never make it. I have no disrespectfor those that don't have the masochistic tendencies that keep me around...

The CH profession was completely reworked.

This is laughable. An ommission of truth. And only fuels the argument of Blue's that A LARGE PART of DE's are only motivated by self interest.

CH rework:

1) More MOB agro. (I die easier)
2) Less armor. (pets die easier)
3) Lower resist. (pets die easier)
4) Lower Non-CH CL's. (lost market)
5) Second pet no longer counts for exp. (more grinding)
6) Raised CL's on CH pets. (no more 3 GSP combos and various other mid level combos)
7) Made transfer master command. (lose of mid range market unless your a master, Non-CH buy BE pets now)
8) Promised ranged/specials commands. (do not work so the sugar coated pill is left tasting poorly)

Yeah we got our rework, we got fixed. make that spade or neutered.

Are those the types of fixes youre asking for?

I didn't say CH got reworked for the better or for the worse. I simply said it got reworked. Which means the Devs spent time on it. There is no omission. And self-interest? Yeah, I want to have fun playing this game, we all do. So everyone here is motivated by self-interest.

CH was massively overpowered as it was, and in my opinion, doesn't even belong in this game. I'm a DE because I like droids, and droids are a big part of what makes Star Wars. We should be seeing droids everywhere, instead of the rancors and grauls and cats.
