Thread: The Consensus On Combat Droids

#1 Agree. I would like one droid, be it combat or not, that DE's have as a "badge". I mean, why not? Even if its only a silver protocol that no one else has... that would be fun =) I mean, there's A LOT of grinding involved!

#2 Strongly Agree. Although reading up on the IG-88's those might not fit in the storyline at ALL, but Droideka's could... (since they're on Lok, a DE could in roleplay have 'found' a broken one, rebuilt it, and released the schematics to the DE community)

#3 I don't know. I like the fact that anyone can use a droid... they're not dependent on certs in the movies are they?

#4 Yes. AGREE. If we make it, we know every piece of circuitry in the darn thing, why couldn't we operate it? We programmed it!

#5 Agree. See #1

#6 Strongly Agree. See #2. It COULD fit in the continuity.

ALSO! WE NEED MORE THAN ONE DROID OUT AT ONCE, POSSIBLY DE'S ONLY!. Maybe we don't need a special droid, but the ability to have 2-3 out at once would be nice, right? (A repair to repair, and a protocol to translate? Or a repair and a combat would be a good combo etc.)

Just putting my 2 cents in to see my profession fixed =)

My 1.9999 cents:

1) agree

2) Strongly agree

3) agree. I could live with certs. As it is I can't use even medium pistols yet as I don't have the pistol training

4) disagree somewhat. DE's really can't use seeker droids now anyway. I would have little use for an entertainment droid. Perhaps as in #3 with certs for different types of droids depending on profession and skill tree. But, I think the majority of DE's would like to have the capablilty of using all combat droids. (If only for protection as we are weak otherwise!)

5) agree!

6) agree!

But lastly, still agree with Sintrosi that we first should fix the existing bugs before adding anything new.

#1) I agree.

#2) I agree.

#3) I can not agree or disagree with this, because I have not yet researched all the posts and ideas regarding this. So I honestly can not offer my oppinion either way.

#4) I agree.

#5) I agree. I feel that we should have a unique droid for master droid engineers only. Almost every mechanic, every PC builder, every designer, every architect... has her/his specialpersonal project that they are constantly improving and adding the newest and best things to. Thier clasic car that they only drive on sundays that only they are allowed to drive, thier PC with the fastest CPU and largest hard drive that only they are allowed to use. Thier pride and joy. Even Anakin Skywalker had C3P0 and his special tie fighter, Han Solo had his baby... the melenium falcon. Why should we be any different. We are compassionate about our profession. Its only logical that we would have our own pride and joy, a droid that only we can use.

#6) I agree.

#1 agree

#2 agree

#3 agree as long it's asome form of cert system and that it isntbound to the DE profession.

#4 disagree cause of #3

#5 disagree. Just need more than 5 droids in datapad and ability to call more than one droid (non combat) for DE.

#6 agree

1. a) No one wants DE-only combat droids to be the ONLYnew droids we get.
b)Few like the idea of combat modules for non-combat droids.

This is two issues,
a) I don't want all DE-only droids.
But we have the probot already.
That could be the non-DE droid since they're already out there and everyone can use them.

b) I HATE the idea of combat modules in non-combat droid chassis.

2. Majority want new combat droids that we can sell

I agree. That's the whole point of adding combat droids -a new, major market.

3. Majority believe there should be some sort ofgame balancing limit on new and powerful droids. The options proposed are certs added to combat professions, droid level skillsin the DE skilltree, and a Droid Handler profession.

The CH revision was a balancing effort, it doesn't suggest certs or anything else - just balancing creature levels.

Balancing combat droidsis a given and will be addressed by the devs.

How to implement usage skills - droid level and/or stored droid skills - is the issue.

Don't know that certs is the 'most common' solution proposed. Don't bias the options.

I think these usage skills placed in low level DE boxes or just one branch would be the easiest for DE, devs, and customers to use and understand.

4. Majority believe we should be able to use all the droids that we can make

If droid usage skills were placed in DE skill boxes and you mastered DE, you would be able to use all droids.

5. In ADDITION to the droids in Point #4, many, but not all, want DE-only combat droids that are "cool" or "special" as a badge of our Droid Engineer-ness.

I could care less about some special combat droid.
If I can't sell it, it doesn't help me much.
I've only seen a few people mention this option.

6. Give us Droidekas somehow!!!

Droidekas are not a major issue for me. But they would be cool.
They are in the movies and the game already.
If we have to stick with ONLY the droids that were ever seen in the movies (unrealistic) then give them to us, and all the other droids we've seen.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."

1) I agree

2) I agree

3) I dissagree, as I would terminate my account over a droid handler profession, otherwise I agree I personally like the anyone can have cert 1 probot, master starting skill cert 2, master eliete skill cert 3, MDE cert 4

4) I agree

5) I agree an advanced version of what we can sell to any other with cert 3, is a cert 4 in my book.

6) I agree since the art is in game allready.. bring it to all the planets data, and poof, they can happen

Quote:

Other suggestions are welcome -- like the number of folks interested in multiple combat droids as opposed to only one.

Please note that your #5 is flawed. There are currently 3 camps of DEs: (1) those that want to sell every droid we make; (2) those that want DE-only droids or some other special perk; and (3) those that don't care either way, but would like SOME sort of combat advantage.

By phrasing your question #5 as would you be happy withDE-only droids? You are inserting a bias into the survey and picking up #2 and #3 (because the 3's will agree to anything that gives an advantage).

As I have proposed in the past, (see http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=droid_engineer&message.id=34500) all 3 camps could be made happy by implementing combat droids usuable by ALL players, but limiting non-DEs to one combat droid, and allow advanced DEs (to prevent dabbling) tocall 2-3 combat droids. Players from all 3 camps (not all, but a lot) have agreed that this is a good compromise on the above, and other threads.

1. No one wants DE-only combat droids to be the ONLYnew droids we get.

Agree. This is a totally wrongheaded solution. It fails to give crafting DEs something to sell, and transforms DE into a combat class. This additionally will hurt existing sales for crafting DEs because people who become DEs just for combat pets will be making their own utility droids rather than buying them.

2. Majority want new combat droids that we can sell

Agree, but not to the exclusion of other useful droid functions. Combat is fundamental to this game. Ergo to give us no significant ways to assist combat-oriented players greatly removes DEs from a sense of real participation in the game. Currently we support those who support combat professions, putting us in a very small category of people who are more than one level removed from the action of the game. It's therefore not as satisfying as it could be.

But it should be noted that I do not (and believe most DEs likewise do not) want to become providers of war machines to the exclusion of all else. I want to build droids that can make life better for every profession. In Star Wars droids exist in all parts of society, much like personal computers do in our own society. We're not feeling that. Our droids provide a few vague, general functions, and some of them (inventory/data storage) I'm not sure should even count as "functions."

While I don't think we can get away without combat support functions, I also don't think the availability of combat droids is an "out" that relieves the need for more robust droid capabilities for non-combat professions as well.

3. Majority believe there should be some sort ofgame balancing limit on new and powerful droids with certs being the most common --but not the only --solution proposed.

Agree, except not "should be." I'd say, "must be." It would be nice if everybody could use any droid, and it may even be more realistic in an abstract sense, but the ability to limit power available to players based on the players' own advancement is essential to SWG qua computer game. Creating a game where challenge and power scales parallel with player advancement must trump all other concerns, including continuity, or it's not really a game anymore.

4. Majority believe we should be able to use all the droids that we can make

Partial agree. We don't have this already. We can make medical droids we can't use. We can make BH droids we can't use. We can make droids with crafting stations we can't use. We can make BLLs nobody can use. With regard to combat droids, if you can do it and keep things in balance, great. I don't think it would be as big a problem as some other folks do. If it can't be balanced, it's not like there's some existing precedent we'd be breaking by restricting DEs the same as anybody else on combat droids.

I personally think we should give it a try, and if it does wind up hurting more than helping (by dragging in the min-maxer and **edit** crowds), I'd expect the current naysayers to lead the charge to have it nerfed, and I'd support them 100%. The important thing for devs to focus on is making sure that DE doesn't become the "easy way" to get high-level combat droid pets.

5. In ADDITION to the droids in Point #4, many, but not all, want DE-only combat droids that are "cool" or "special" as a badge of our Droid Engineer-ness.

Disagree. This is not necessary. While I agree it would be "neat" in some sense, other classes don't have this (weaponsmiths don't have guns only they use, nor armorsmiths armor or architects houses). If we were to have something like this, it should not be a combat droid. The benefits of such a "special" droid should be symbolic, not tangible.

6. Give us Droidekas somehow!!!

Partial disagree. Too specific. Call this a nice-to-have (and probably the easiest extra droid chassis to give us, since they already exist as active NPCs), and we do need some combat droid chassis (no MSEs with blasters pls k thx bye), but I resist getting so specific that it sounds like it's droidekas or nothing. This is secondary to the broader concerns.

  1. I do not want any DE only droids. We are crafters. we have enough skill points to master an elite combat profession

  2. I would like to see new models of combat droids, new auxilary droids, and upgrades to the existing "combat" droids

  3. something similar to the CH level system. Sorry for mentioning CH. I propose that the level of droid that can be used be based on the number of skill points used. If a satisfactory idea cannot be agreed on then I am good with anyone using any droid. Isnt that the purpose of droid... to make life easier.

  4. Everybody should be able to use all the droids we make except CHs. lol i guess we can let them use them too. I do have a cowardley gurreck that I use instead of my pre nerf probot

  5. I dont need any patch saying I am DE or any special perks. Making the droids is enough

  6. We should be allowed to make droideka, but they cannot have the ability to put any modules in them unless they are related to combat i.e. armor, shield generators, or weapons.

I have started my top 10 list of things the DEVs have done thatwill make the game worse (not in order of precedence)

  1. decay on death
  2. craftingconsiders lack of stat to be 0 when experimenting
  3. the latest CH nerf is actually a hidden boost (conspiracy theory on my part)
  4. the DE plan is so useless and shows a lack of concern when compared to the CH plan released at the same time. Exploding mouse droids!!! what kind of sickjoke is that. we are not all 12 year old boys.
  5. politicians require skill points. What happened to the ability for anyone to run for office. The US wouldnt funciton as it does today if we required all of our politicians to go to political school. I would actually be scared to live here if we did. even the little guy from Different Strokes ran for govenor of California.
  6. the elite combat professions(except TKA and Swordman) are worthless compared to commando or a CH. Needs to be balanced and dont nerf the anyone. Just bring the other professions on par
  7. No incap for poisons or other DOTs and poison DOT needs to balanced with the flame DOT in PvE
  8. Holocrons only for the higher level combat classes (CHs and commandos). Anikan was a droid engineer. I didnt see the little boy killing 14k HAM mobs.
  9. 50k a week for maint on a city hall. And I thought I was looking forward to being in one. I will be staying far far away from a player city.
  10. Healing mind damage will cause mind wounds. Who would be stupid enough to heal mind damage because it will reduce your effectiveness because the mind pool is the key factor in combat.

Dude... the guy had his force-sensitive slot opened before the packaging even came off! Besides, he did kill a whole tusken camp - women and children included. That must add up to a hell of a lot of 8K creatures. Besides, he soloed it without an AT-ST or a creature pet. I think he needs to be nerfed!

#1 I agree

#2 I agree

#3 I agree (certification, not a new class unless no other reasonable alternative is workable)

#4 disagree. I have no problems with profession specific droids.

#5 agree. and disagree. profession specific droids are alright by me, and something for DE's would be nice, but the answer might not lie with a DE specific combat droid necessarily. If it came down to choosing between a DE only combat droid or having 2 droids out at once, I'd go for 2 droids. note, I'm not limiting DE's from having 2 combat droids out at once, just questioning a DE specific combat droid

#6 agree. but don't make them watered down versions of the ones seen in the movies, or the ones rolling around on Lok. they're supposed to be heavy weapons with legs, keep 'em that way. And why stop at droideka? add in the other combat droids we've seen.
