Zoul,
The reason why so many DEs are resisting the addition of DC is becausefor 8 months, we had been promised the moon, the stars and everything in between for a "new and improved" Droid Engineer profession...then at the last minute, we were then told that all of those new things (combat droids, modules, etc.) are now just going to be handed over to another profession entirely...instead of fixing DE.
(For the record, I hate this forum software. I can't get it do what I want and have gotten used to from other forums. I actually have to think, instead of just using experience. Woes!)
The majority of the DE profession was pretty explicit; No hybrid, we want to be"pure" crafter. The majority of the DE's didn't WANT combat droids within the profession. In fact, the most popular system that the devs rejected on balance was certification that would allow COMBAT professions to weild these droids.
Ever since DE's said no to droid engineers becoming the CH/BE combo, assuming the devs play nice and follow the majority (which, even though I think the majority is wrong, is a good thing), we were never supposed to be a part of combat droids other than creating them.
As for modules, well what kind of modules can they give DC that were not going to be able to use? Offensive ones? Well, that's "duh". Utility? It's certainly more valid to worry about these than the rest, but in the scheme of things I think it's a minor concern that we couldveto out of the idea, instead of rejecting the thought alltogheter. h
This is like being promised a new car for months, only to have your dad pull you aside the week before he buys it and says, "I've decided to give the car to your sister instead...but you can still wash it once a week and tunethe engine for her, but you can't drive it."
It's closer to being a mechanic building the car, telling your dad you want to build better cars, while refusing to take a drivers license ("No combat perks for us DE's! We're crafters!") and then get all riled up at the idea of actually getting to build the car but have someone elsewith a drivers license use it.
"We" didn't want combat droids within our class, and we didn't get them.
See my point? Instead of revamping the DE profession, as promised by TH, JustG and the devs,
Which part makes it impossible for DC to be a part of the revamp; i.e. the introduction of usefull combat droids instead of that piece of hovering pathfinding-droid?
More combat droids + more utility droids + bug fixes = I call that a reiteriated DE. So we're not getting additional combat droids, latest word on the extra utility droids are pessimistic at best, and I severly doubt we'll get more bug fixes than usual.
In what way does post-poning DC actually make the profession go forward towards a revamp?

Have we effectively slit our own throats by resisting Droid Commander?
NO NO NO NO and NO.
If any blame is to be placed, it is to be placed squarely on the shoulders of SOE for releasing and unfinished game. Also on the Dev's shoulders for releasing the DE profession with so many bugs. You have got to be kidding me that this is somehow yours and my fault. We all only wanted the best for this professoin and have been optimistic and upbeat about it until only recently when the Devs sent us on this rollor coaster ride of broken promises and misleading directions.

Bullcrap. We slit our throats by saying we didn't want combat droids in the DE tree which is where they were going: CH+BE=DE.
I agree with you there. Compared to the current DH idea I would take the CH+BE=DE anyday. The problem is that the Devs never told us what the alternative was when we rejected CH+BE=DE. OUR idea of the alternative was to give Droids to everyone via certification, but the Devs went in a completely differnt direction. Had we known at the time, I believe we'd be in a very differnt situation right now.

So true, yet another reason why CH+BE=DE was rejected. We had been talking certs for such a long time before they sprang the CH+BE=DE idea on us. Why were we talking about that direction to begin with? Because that is the direction Holocron led us in.

"Their fault" -Virtanis
Right on!
The proposed DH/DC/DM/ "Droid Fondler" class should have either been the first thing onthe In Concept forum.
Itshould have been at least vaguely referred to at some point before the "This is what we're going to do next month" messages we got.

What are we, mindless minions?
We chose to buy, pay for and play a game that I assume most of us knew pretty darn well wasn't "finished" (MMORPG's never finish, but the word is sufficient *shrugs*) and we're still paying for it.
We willingly made the choice to pay, play and live with it. We can object, we can share our opinions, we can whine. How can we blame SOE for us having to endure this when we can end the "torment" any time we like?
Because between the moments of torment, this unfinished piece of software is an extremely entertaining piece of software
And... eh...
<insert intelligent remark that relates to whole thing to the DE profession in particular>
(No, not canyon runs shooting at womp rats)

... due to game balance. No matter what we did with the cert system, we'd end up giving extra combat capabilities to the lot of them without extra SP spend, and that's uber-certs-combo's aside. Out of the few good arguments I've seen for slaying the DC idea completely, none of them address this.
Had we known at the time, I believe we'd be in a very differnt situation right now.
What makes it too late to change? We turn puppy-eyed looks at our correspondent, get another one of the "which one do you prefer" and gauge the new sentiments, present them to the devs, and watch them twist it, or break it, but from a new angle.
(And eh... no, I havn't been waiting for someone other than me suggesting that. Honest)
