I disagree. I know there are lots of bugs that *can* be fixed overnight. We have soooo many bugs, there are many that can be fixed in a minute, many take a day or so, many take days and other take weeks. Please don't tell me that making repair modules work in "LE Repair" droids when it works in the surgical droid can take long. Or restricting general cluster modules to the general cluster sockets? Or fixing so conversational droids can be named?

Some things need a consensus like you say, like how long should a droid last with a battery charge (at least twice of what it does now, but how much longer?), or how much longer should coloring last (at least 5 times longer, but how much longer?), and restrict modules depending on the droid (what modules and up to what level should each droid accept?). But we can start fixing the immediate things, that would give us a little hope and not just more 'empty words' (sorry, but so far, it's been empty words)

TH - Im sorry some people arent appreciating the work your doing for them, but you dont need to defend yourself, it just wastes time and wont silence the thick heads out here. Just keep doing the work, and know that many people are glad your here.

And lets set expectations now. There is no magic bullet thats going to fix things overnight.

Very true and if there were a "magic bullet", there still is no one around to shoot it, because we don't even have a developer. The lights have been off in our little corner cubical at the SOE offices for the past 6 months. I doubt the cleaning crew even bothers to vacume that area at night anymore. This first priority should be to "Get Us A Developer/Programmer" what ever colorfull title you want to label them. Thats what we need first.

Even as it stands, once we get our "State of the Profession" posted, we're going to poll it for a week to see how all the droid engineers feel about it. Once that document is done, then we move on to the next part.

Ah... yet another form of delay. Whats it going to be next week? And the following week and so on...? As of this posting, there are 4 pages of 100% agreement with Sintrosi's "State of the Profession" post. A post that is exactly what we have been saying for 4 months.

You folks are droin engineers - - surely you can appreciate the process of engineering a solution and moving through it step by step, eh?

True, we can appreciate that. However, I have yet to see the process even begin and yet it is quite clear to all of us, what needs to be done. It has been clear for months.

I personaly would like to thank you for replying to our posts, ThunderHeart, as it is proof that we DEs are atleast be heard by _someone_ over there in CH-land.

Albert,

You are quite correct. It isn't so much that they will be hard to kill, but what are you being forced to divert your attention from in the time it takes to kill them...and what are those things doing to you?

It's logical to presume that killing them will make them explode which means that melee and pets are going to need shooters to get them. Them because more than one will come....and if they're coded right at all...as a CMI shouldn't be able to AOE them, but a commando could (or similar cone attacks). He'd better do it before they get near.

The MSE doesn't have to actually explode on target to do it's job. It will frequently do its job even if it doesn't.

I completely agree Bri.

One of the things that's sorely missing so far in SWG is the shaping of classes (SL, CM, DE) to really deepen the tactical engagements of group battles.

Currently they're either broken (SL, DE) or at such a state of power that they are viable as soloists (CM).

SL buffs and DE droids have the ability to tactially shape the battlefield.

As much as I am a Jedi hunter, this is what keeps me in SWG right now...the promise that PvP can enter a tactical point at which street brawls end and tactically shaped battle ensue.

Droid Engineers will be at the center of that revolution, if/when it comes to pass.

If the MSE droid explodes.. So am I.. Why not make another poor excuse for a droid.. I mean cmon people an exploding MSE.. Can we at least have a new droid that does that.. I am getting really tired and the game is stressing me now.. I dont know how much longer I can hold out for improvements.. I am bored silly and cant make anything that makes me smile anymore.. Its all about hunting the resources and making worthless droids for me.. My gaming experience is indeed changing.. (as the warning says).. I am getting more stressed about a game then I do in real life..

New Droids that have worth or Byeeees! I am gone to Final Fantasy

I'm not sure that anyone here suggested otherwise. I hope that flame-retardant suit isn't starting to come undone.

When Sintrosi and I get things hammered out, there will be more stuff here.

Okay...that's fine. Then don't give timetables for posting till the things getting "hammered out" are dealt with...that's not much to ask.

I'm not sure what time table you're talking about, since I've yet to see one from him. He said we were a priority this morning, that doesn't mean he's has to or needs to post anything on the forum about us. That only means that he will be trying to get us worked on.

And lets set expectations now. There is no magic bullet thats going to fix things overnight.

I am 187% certain that anyone in our profession would ever believe that to be the case. Knowing what we've been through in the past...this is par for the course.

You mean I don't see dozens and dozens of posts each day demanding that our class be fixed right now? Of course, sniping at him with comments like that are so much better than demanding the "magic bullet".

Even as it stands, once we get our "State of the Profession" posted, we're going to poll it for a week to see how all the droid engineers feel about it. Once that document is done, then we move on to the next part.

I don't know how much you'll need to poll. If the updated plan that you come up with fully addresses the items that Sintrosi put forth in your "State of the Profession" post, you'll be fine.

I agree with ya here. That post should contain most of what is needed, but another thread can't hurt.

You folks are droin engineers - - surely you can appreciate the process of engineering a solution and moving through it step by step, eh?

Yes...true. Most of us "engineers" know that it's NEVER a good idea to talk about a timetable when you cannot fully guarantee that said timetable can be met.

Again, you talk of a time table. If he posted one and I didn't see it, can ya post the link? I'd appreciate it.

Just be more careful, in that regard, and you'll be fine. Believe it.

Now, we can talk about whats wrong, what you'd like and where we are going or we can waste more time.

Which would you prefer?

I would prefer to be treated with a level of professionalism. You stated that you would have something ready for us yesterday, then posted around 6pm that we would be first priority. A reasonable person can see that expectations would arise and we would expect to see a post this morning. When that didn't happen, people wanted to know why. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Maybe your post should have been a new thread in the DE forum to the effect of:

DE's,

I was unable to get to the information that I was going to post today. It is late and I am heading home. I plan on gathering my thoughts early on this issue and will get with Sintrosi tomorrow. Once we have hashed out all the details, I will post the results in this forum.

I think that would have solved a lot of the complaining and been better for both sides. You guys have a silent rule of not posting timelines because they generally get delayed. When you do post one, make sure that you can achieve it. If not, it just causes grief on both ends. Most of this stems from the profession being neglected as long as it has, coupled with frustration on the part of many DE's who don't want to surrender their skills in hopes that this will someday be a viable and fun profession.

Quote:

NO!

Limit to 1 COMBAT droid and 2 TOTAL droids. By god I'd like to own a droid that can repair my Probot's HAM and not have to look for someone who has a repair droid.

This would make DE's even more useful because anyone buying a combat droid would also need another droid that can repair it. Right now there's no reason to buy another droid.

TheFUna,

I totally agree with you. I promise I do. I own 4 droids, and have always been pissed that my R2 cannot use it's repair module to repair any of the others, and that my power bot can't recharge any of the others.

What I proposed is an attempt at a compromise, because the devs seem dead-set on nerfing all pets. I felt this was obvious from the fact that they (wrongfully) took it upon themselves to nerf droids and faction pets along with non-CH creatures, even though droids are not unbalancing in combat by any means.

In the defense of my idea:

(1) All players DO have a reason to buy at least 2 droids. The droidekas wouldn't be able to hold any function modules. So if any player wants the benefits of a medic or crafting module, they have to buy 2 droids. Just becausesome players wouldn't be able tohave both out at the same time doesn't mean players can't have 2 droids in their datapad. They will just buy both and switch droids out when needed.

(2) My idea takes medics, crafters, and DE'sinto account, and gives an extra droid out for these professions (the ones who need the extra droid most).

Please understand, In an ideal world, I would want EVERY player to be able to call one combat droid and one non-combat droid at the same time. If you look at my old posts, I have been advocating exactly that for months. I just felt I needed to compromise a bit with my idea because of the hard line devs are taking. However, if you feel differently know that I agree with you.

TH its not you its this incessent tap dancing around fixing droids and the DE profession, your background in understanding the community is excellent but your role in this as seen by most of the DE's is as a way to make us keep waiting which is something people are tired about. if they were to agree to push out even a small set of changes in a set time line (even a month before 4 things would get changed..) it would be different, but instead all we've had were nerfs, player non-ch pets and colors, which dont even work right. the state of the prof. address does a much better job then me of outlining our attitude and beliefs on this situation....as i keep reiterating its not you TH, youre great its the "keep on waiting" approachwith no commitiment for a fix.
