Just built one of the new "A Droid Body" schematics.
It showed up with contents 0/50 in the examine window. I tried to put it in a cargo pocket, and it said "this item is too bulky to fit in this container" - just like backpacks when you try to put them in another backpack.
I dropped "a droid body" in a cantina, and I can't open it like a toolchest, or chest, or backpack. Yet, it still says it has 0/50 contents.
So yeah - is it supposed to hold items like a toolchest or a backpack, or not? What's up with this.
And yeah - it shouldn't be animated like the functional Protocol chassis. Makes it look kind of lame to have the droid have no head, yet still moves around. Looks like corner cutting to me, to get the new loot out.
What about the countless defunct Astromechs laying around in places? There are a LOT of "dead" droids sitting around, and they decided to take the head off of a Protocol Droid chassis and make it seem new. Meh, not too impressed, especially that there's an apparent means of storing stuff in this thing, yet no way to "open" the storage area that is insinuated.
TRY to stuff the body of a droid in a backpack
Chewbacca did it.

Okay folks here is what i know about these silly bobbles.
I made a few and I did get the option to experiment / I assume from reading the other posts that its because im also a master Artisan as well as a master DE.
As you have all mentioned , they do not actualy hold anything, has anyone seen a droid head schematic? do any of the droid loot parts fit in it?....... can anyone think of a reason for this item ? is not im sure not going to keep them in stock. BECAUSE THEY DON'T SELL....
anyway please keep posting the random info on this item maybe we will find out what its for.
Actually I get guildies who just bring them to me. Someone posted here on the boards that he names his "Former 10 minute wait ticket collector" and I have been naming mine that. There all selling out the day I but them on my vendor and I'm selling them for 100k each.
Not a bad profit for getting them for free

Yeah, they sell pretty good for me...they don't fly off my vendor, but I sell one every couple days for 50k. My naming is generally "Former/Junked/Abused Ticket Collector", and I always give a quick description like it was salvaged from the local scrapyards.
Although I think these things would sell better if shuttle wait times were still 10 minutes.

I can store 5 droids ina datapad, which by all accounts is smaller than a backpack...umm yeah. ![]()
This *would* fit in a backpack, if they hadn't put the non-functional storage attributes on it. I'm hoping someday they allow something to be put in it, to give it some kind of functionality. It's a decent decoration, but I want about 8 or more different broken droid models to litter my shop, in various stages of disrepair. I've seen em around in the game, in towns and stuff. There's a DE trainer in various cities, inside guild halls, and he's got a little platform with a droid inside of it (broken EG-6 Power droid I believe), and other broken droids around him (broken astromechs, broken droidekas, etc).
Personally I would've REALLY enjoyed getting a broken droideka for decoration, not only because I live on Lok and supposed there are abandoned droidekas everywhere, but also because people would buy them like mad in the hopes that, some glorious day, they would be made repairable.
Ah well.
