Cause what we wanted to have them change required it, I guess. Anyway, the thing to look forward to here is that, soon, we'll be able to display/color EVERY droid we can make.

Ahhh...my showroom can finally be complete.

2. What would be so bad about being able to customize chassis and deeds?

More Dev. work and less stuff for us, I'm guessing. I don't know how this works yet but I'm guessing that we'll have a "build as display" or somesuch when you try to deed the droid.I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Are you sure they know that we sell decorative chassis?

Yup...I mentioned to them that I do a good bit of my business on this alone. So, they know.

I guess this explains why my answer about decorative droids wasn't added to the knowledge base. Maybe we should try to get patch information from CSRs in the future.

Actually...please DO add something to the KB. It looks okay right now...but I think it can added to for droids and be much better.

It will help all DEs and our clients (and save you from answering 100s of the same basic questions).

You misunderstood. I did submit an answer about using stationary droids to decorate your house, but it wasn't added. I wondered why at the time, but now it just seems that CSRDavidF had the information before we did.

These Publish 8 display droids...

Will we be able to pick them up and use them to complete an emergency order for a working droid, customizing them with modules like we can with the chassis now.

NO, because they are droids that have gone through the final combine.

As such we lose functionality. If my Mayor wants to pick up the protocol chassis installed in the cantina and labelled 'barkeep', thenhave me make him a working protocol he can now, saving credits in the process..in future he cant.

This is just another example of the Devs giving us something we never asked for - what we did ask for is a chassis for the droids that dont have one, what they gave us instead is furniture that has no future potential to be used.

Sorry but I don't like this one either, and I don't like onlybeing told about itafter the event. Will they never learn to communicate? Why did they not tell us they proposed to do this, and have some discussion on the matter? It's not a huge issue like the armour nerf, but it displays exactly the same amount of forethought and consultation..zero.

can they let us use customization kits on (dropped)chassis then (in buildings where we have admin priv)?

I think we're making an aweful lot of assumptions here when we really know nothing of how it's going to work when it comes out. I've seen several people saying we'll be required to build final combines for a droid in order to be able to customize it, and I think that's jumping to conclusions. Of course it may turn out to be true but there's nothing indicating that at this point.

Personally I think it's like someone else said (I'm sorry, I'd go look back to see who it was but I'm tired ), they'll probably be like BE pets where the deed looks like the chassis, so you drop the deed, and voila you have a droid in your home.

However, that doesn't mean that we won't still be able to do the same thing with frames, just like we do now. It's possible that we'll get two chances to color them... once when we make the advanced droid frame and once on the final combine. Or perhaps we don't get the color option on the advanced droids' final combine, since it's already been determined by the pre-built frame. I don't know, I'm just throwing thoughts out.

Just because the customization has disappeared from the frame construction for now doesn't mean it won't be back in the same place later. It could just mean that the system required enough of a revamp to make it work everywhere else that they had to take it apart for now. Who knows? Let's not get all mad and up in arms before we really know what the story is.

ooo...ooo... I hope your right OrionsByte.

I think it would be great if this turned out to be the case. Then maybe you could drop the colorized droid chassiz OR the final deed, and both would serve as furniture/decoration.

Unfortunately, I could see the devs changing the art on the chassizs to the default mod component art in order to force people to use the final deeds instead of the chassizs. I'm not sure what the logic would be in doing so, but hey....we're talking about the devs.

Anyway, my fingers are crossed. I can't finish my droid superstore until I can get my chassiz/furniture colorization back.

You may be right, but I kinda doubt color customization will return to the chassis stage... unless it is finally fixed to actually COLOR the final droid. (pet peeve #21295)

The early statements made by the DEVs do point to final deeds having the "look" of the actual droid instead of that odd, brown datapad thingy. This means that in order to drop a "display" model for a droid, you will have to craft the entire droid (granted, a base model rather than advanced will help save resources), name it,then drop that "deed" to display the droid.

I also doubt that we will be able to use Customization Kits on those dropped "deeds", as those kits only work on actual droids at this point. So that seems like a lot more DEV work to re-program them in that way. More likely, I think, is that we will get our color customization stage back at the END of the crafting assembly. Allowing us a one-time color change to the deed, just like we had with the chassis. Once crafted, that's its color... unless "tamed" (heh) into an actual droid.

These deeds certainly wont have any functionality (healing, crafting, etc.) and wont take up a player's Datapad Slot unless they choose to tame them. Which they can do at anytime they want.

Ah, thanks for the heads up TK, I must've missed this post earlier. As long as it's coming back in some form I'm all for it. ACTUALLY...I take that back. I wish we could use FUNCTIONAL droids as displays. I hope this new feature they plan on implementing doesn't force the droid to be nothing more than display. With the current system, at least we can pick up these display chassis and use them if we need to.

Agreed. Unless these droids give actual function (i.e. you can access item storage or medical/crafting modules) the ability to make the couple of droids that we couldn't make before (Power droid is the only one that anyone really cares about anyway...) isn't going to outweigh the reduction in functionality.

Part of the "charm" of the chassis was, as Shain pointed out, that they were somewhat reusable. The only thing this has done is made making crated chassis more attractive; one ofthe reasons I only madeProbot chassis in factories was because Imade the others by hand, and had the option of selling it as decoration or using it in a functional droid.Factory crated chassis all around seems the way to go now, since they are gonna come out in thosegeneric colors no matter what you do - thisis good in a way for an industrialist like myself, but on the other hand it was one of the few thingsI enjoyed doing in Droid Engineering by hand.

I really liked coloring and custom-naming a droid ("LE-678, A Crafting Station Attendant"). People absolutely loved them! I'd make special series andsets for special orders - one player city ordered a total of 40 chassi from me to fill all their civic buildings. It was one of the true places we could show some creativity and really add to the "Star Warsy" enviornment which is lacking inside of a lot of player structures.

One of the advantages was the lighter resource cost - which meant that it was available to even lower-level players who just wanted a little friend to put in their small house. It's not so much the amount of resources but the type - chemical, which we have to use our best quality for if we want to get high HAM now, and since we want to preserve some functionality should the droid be tamed we want this to be as high as possible. It's going to be an interesting conversation, "Gee, if you ever did tame this droid, what would you want in it?"...

Now, we not only have to charge full price, BUT we forever set in stone the droids abilities -I doubt we will be able to change the name even while it's still in "visual deed" form. Since we have to use objects as signs (funny, in a space game...) to give information, many people used them in shops or other structures to direct people around ("Please visit our vendors downstaris!"). This was first nerfed by not allowing HEX coding in object names (white is a lot harder to read in most homes), and now you are stuck with what you get. No longer can I offer trade-ins and exchanges with these droids when people need "new" text strings to direct people, further reducing their attractiveness. Barker modules will be great - but they will not be static and the whole point of these "direction decoration" droids is to tell people things when you are not there.

This is a nerf thathas alreadyhit a lot of lower-level or smaller hobby shop MDE's who have only made it this far in the profession because they could produce these decorations and pay for harvesters and kept them DE's in spite of the often lack of DE business on some servers.

I don't understand why we cannot have both worlds.

The chassis color should simply be ignored by the coding of the deed. This cannot be that difficult. A chassis is a chassis, as we all know - as it stands right now the chassis color has no effect on the final deed. I do not understand why this "feature" cannot be preserved in the same way.

This is not a case of "can't" - the system is already in place. It may be more difficult to add the new system and compensate along the way, but I'd much rather wait and extra publish or two (or even forever...) for this new "feature" instead of dealing with yetanother devestating stealth nerf like this. If it had actually been communicated to us, we could have at least stocked up. We know that crafting isn't "real" - i.e. the color of a chassis is just a HEX type code - a color reference. Why would it be so hard to tell the new system to ignore this color reference, preserving chassis creation as is? It's not like there is literally paint on the metal there...

Just make the droids viewable like BE pets instead of ugly generic deeds. Add the color-kit functionailty after that. But please, leave our chassis alone...please. Seriously, don't ask us to swallow this nerf with a smile - we've outlined the problems with the proposed new system, and the time to respond to that feedback is now - before it's too late and Publish 8 hits. Recitfy this stealth nerf with some overt information.

I cant see the case for changing what is already in game (or was)

To be honest I would rather revert to Pub 6 crafing, and have the chassis to sell, it was good and cool, and I made a lot of credits from it. Cisyomers loved it and therefore all were happy. (prime scenario for a nerf eh?)

To have this stealth nerf in order to get a couple more chassis is very silly, and another example to demonstrate that Devs do not actually play DE.

The more and more I play around with this patch, the more and more I think that this is really only half of what was intended. Something to get out the door because management said so. In which case, it will be publish 8 that will either make or break us.

I partially agree with this. Chassis were the ONLY stable market for droid wares and they took it away. I know it is temporary, but still, the whole thing was poorly and incompetently planned if it didn't occur to them that temporarily taking away one of our primary markets wouldn't be a problem. /grrr

The novelty on the combat droids is already wearing off it seems. I'm back to getting more requests for decorative chassis than for droids and I all I can do is say "sorry, the developers took away my ability to make decorative chassis for you with this publish".
