Thread: Why is everyone so disgusted with Publish 7 ??

The only time I've been scanned was about 30 minutes after I made a new avatar on another server, just for a few moments relief from the daily grind. He had travelled about 300m out of Anchorhead to kill a few kreetles, and on his way back was thrown off his bike (that someone had *given* him about 5 minutes after he started!), and scanned by a probot for about the same 5 seconds as you were. Of course he had nothing more than a melon, a survival knife, cdef pistol and the few kreetle meats hehad harvested, but it blew my mind!

So far I've seen the storm troopers only harass afk dancers in cantinas, and now a 30-minute-old newbie.

I'm praying like you that we don't become the "Droid Letdown" like this, but all early indicators make it look that way.

20 components now instead of 9 for the combat droids? Forget it, you can go elsewhere, my two factories won't keep up with the demand, if indeed there even is one. I'll keep making my little medical and storage droids for those who need them, and start hawking the R3 for medical, crafting, and item and data storage for doctors or any other crafters.

Or not. I've given up most of merchant already, only making a few sales a day, and gotten Novice Pistoleer. I'm having fun now! Running a few higher-level missions by myself (up to level 11 missions now! lol), and the DX2 pistol is a blast!

Umm... because publish 8 was like supposed to 3 or something. Now do you understand?

I am happy with what is coming with publish 7. The droid damage repair kits are the biggest deal to me. But if by the end of publish 8 most of the bugs are still there, I'm going to be very annoyed. And if droid armor stays the way it currently is on TC, I'll be even more annoyed.

Well then, I think it's a fair bet you are going to be very annoyed..those bugs are alive and well.

As to whether you will get to be 'even more annoyed' as well, I surely hope not. Droids without Armour is...well it's just stupid. I wouldn't put it past them though, I really wouldn't.

Sad eh?

/sigh

I've gotten scanned once. I was loading my factory and saw someone run up to me. Then they yelled "Halt, prepare to be scanned, blah blah blah". I couldn't move for the next minute or so while he scanned. There were about a total of 10 STs all carrying varied weaponery. They found my muon and charged me 280 credits for it(only had 5 on me). Then they stood next to my factory for a day or so.

I know they are alive and well on TC now. But I said I would be annoyed if they are still there after publish 8. Only time will tell if they are all still there then.

I know that you know...what I'm saying to you is I'd be prepared to bet substantial sums that they still will be after publish 8...as you say time will tell

I wish it was a funny subject but it really really is not, so I'm not kidding.

I don't think the generaldisgust with Publish 7/8can be attributed to just 1 single cause.Rather,it's the sum of what we've seen (or haven't seen) during the past 4 months.

---Blatant disregard for the wishes of the DE Community. Droid Handler was completely opposed by the community, yet Thunderheart announced (paraphrased): "We're giving you exactly what you asked for."

---Bugs that have existed since Day 1 are still in existence, and show no signs of being addressed or fixed (Droid naming, LE Repair Droids, Item storage in Surgical droids, the uselessness of Power Droids, etc.)

---We're supposedly the #1 focus, yet everything we've seen indicates otherwise (95% of Test Center notes deal with the Corellian Corvette and other issues). If it wasn't for people like Jenden, we'd know absolutely nothing about the "Droid Invasion."

---Practically no two-way communication between the Developers and the DE Community. Occasionally you'll find a Developer mention something about droids. And that's where it ends...we've had no feedback from the various replies we've made to those topics.

---If you're lucky enough to find Developer discussion about droids, it's completely cryptic and appears to be translated from some other language. Thunderheart's post on droid armor is a perfect example. I still don't think we've figured out what's he's saying.

---Features that were never a problem before, have now been made into problems (Droid Armor was find as-is...now it appears it's being completely revamped needlessly).

---A profession already burdended with rare named resources, has just learned we've got over a dozen more rare resources to collect. Again, we had to figure this out for ourselves (thanks, Jenden). We were *told* nothing by the Developers.

And I'm probably leaving out at least a dozen other problems that some of you could name. So yeah, we're a little disgusted with the prospects of a "Droid Invasion." I think it's the lack of communication that's bothering everyone the most. It's easier to swallow medicine, when you know the reason. Likewise, it would be easier to swallow this whole Droid Invasion concept, if we knew the reasons behind the changes (or lack of changes).

If the Droid Invasion is behind schedule, because the Devs pushed ahead with the Droid Handler concept beforetalking to us about it.....then that's their own fault. Not ours for expressing our opinions when asked for them. They assumed...and we all know what assuming can do.So if they decidedto scrap 60 days of work and a million lines of code, then oh well. Perhaps they should have asked the right questions before beginning their work. Or flipped us the finger, and proceeded with Droid Handler anyway. But it's rather ludicrous to ask "Do you like this?" and then be displeased when you actually get an answer.

Personally, I don't believeanyof the Developers who've ever posted on these boards has played a Droid Engineer for more than an hour or two. If they had, then we'd be getting a lot better information, feedback, and questions from them. Certainly some Developer (somewhere) knows what's going on. He or she is probablyan engineer orprogrammer stuck in a cubical, working 70 hours a week to get this Publish ready. Andthat person probably knows exactly what's going on, and how to fix it. But if I had to guess, management doesn't care to listen to their opinions either.

More likely, SOE has followed the latest globalization trend, and 95% of the code for SWG has been outsourced to another country. Cheaper. But alsotakes 4 times as long to complete aproject, at 50% of the desired results. I wouldn't be surprised, really.

But I digress. Do we have a right to be upset and disgruntled with the Droid Invasion, based on what we know (and more importantly, what we don't know)? Absolutely. However, I will agree with BlueMorgoth on 1 particular concept. I think at this point, I'm going to try to simply enjoy whatever comes out of it. Because it's painfully obvious that posting on these boards does absolutely no good. Other than venting some frustration.I don't agree with what I see coming in Publish 7/8. I'm not thrilled at all....I think most of it's ridiculous. But I also believe thatnoneour posts and discussion here is doing any good, or is going to change anything. If I thought it would, then I'd say we should keep trying.

But at this point in time, it appears a huge waste of time. If and when the Developers demonstrate that they want our opinions again, I'll chime in. Until then, I don't see any sense in it.

If others wish to keep trying, more power to you. You're more persistent and stubborn human beings than I am, and I salute you for trying.

i mean seriously ....

disco ball and ad barker droids??????????....what an utter cheap cop out on the devs parts....its like they had a meeting and decided on what droids would take them the less work

people already put add on their droids and does anyone but the dancers care if there are more saprly things going on in the cantina....get BF healed means a bathroom/sandwich break for me, i dont care about their light show..

I need a survey droid and a BLL to deliver items to customers and pick up resorces in my harvetsors

I would also like to see DEs be able to modify existing droids...i have a great R5...it would be nice to be able to get more modules added to him
