oh dear god thats one of the funniest things iv heard in weeks! thanks for that. It truly is funny to belive that the devs feel they need to "work" to get us to throw our cash at them, it really is. They know people are quitting, they dont care, all they care about is sucking in new people, people drawn to this thinking it is the way the website makes it out to be, and knowing nothing of it. Like cigarett companies! For everyone that dies, they need a replacement gamer.

"SWG? Multiplayer? oh yeah... If I had 1 penny for every time the phrase "solo group" was spoken in 1 single day of SWG I could retire. LOL. We'v got to face that this isent a multiplayer game, its a multiple person interaction simulation single player role playing game... So its a. MPISSPRPG. "-Me

I liked the elite elite prof. idea... When you master an elite prof you open up a DH novice box from there you could have 1 tree or 4 trees like a CH.... I recomment the 1 tree and have the novice box cost 1 SP and the master box cost 6...

Still doesnt explain why its ok to spend 60 points to overbalance the game.

Do we really need a second creature handler profession. I would really hope that this profession turns out to be more than CH with robots instead of animals.

How can a DE know how to build adroidincluding programming and manufacturing, and not know how to control them.Droids aren't wildcreatures. The BE-CH split makes sense. TheDM - DE does not.

LoL Yeah TH, we go from Poke-mon galaxies to Jacki Chan galaxies, it's only logical that it should be battle bot galaxies.

My suggestion would be to do one of two things...

1) Add better droid certs to the Squadleader profession, and the ability to call 3 droids at a time.

or

2) Make a whole new Novice profession that is designed to handle and maintain droids. Skill trees could include: Droid managment (much like the Creature Managment line), Droid care (This line would allow a Droid handler the ability to craft repair kits to heal the droids they purchase from DEs), DroidPrograming ( would add new commands that a handler could teach), and perhaps a Droid combat line (would allow the droids to perform special attacks).

This profession could be a great foundation for the space expansion... In the future you could add an elite profession for astro mech droids.

And droid handlers would be able to repair a droid better than a DE could, A DE would be like a Doctor compared to a Droid handler who would be no more powerfull than a mid level medic. I think that a novice profession with droid handling skills would work best, because then many players could have acess to the droids which would give DEs more business.

But if you had to expend skill points to get the droid cert, it would lower your ability to grab other combat skills, balancing out the tree. For example, if I was a TK master a droideka cert cost 15 skill points, it would extremely limit my ability to pick up other skills that make me a more effective combatant.

I think a droid cert system could work, but it would have to require that you expend skill points to get there. Not just a few either. For really good droids, it should require a SIGNIFICANT skill point investment to prevent exactly what you are referring to.

Just my two creds

TH, what bugs me is the lack of foresight by the devs on the droid issue (and not just the combat ones). It seems clear from your communications with us that there was very little thought given to droids up until this point...and that's just sad, it really is.

This is Star Wars. There should be droids everywhere. There is simply no excuse to not have more droids and existing droids that work 6 months into release. Frankly, they should have been there coming out of beta.

Thunderheart, what you don't seem to realize is that the droids don't have to be uber, CL70 tanks.

Consider, a TKA master with a CL20-25 droid.

This will give him a slight edge - so will some sliced kyrat vibro knucklers.

TH, I draw your attention to my points in the thread below:

There are dozens of other proposals that address your concens about balance, theoverall effect on combat, and "droid wars". The answer is through moderation and compromise, not through a slap-in-the-face solution like DH.

When the majority of players aquire these droids (because they will - - most everyone wants to do better in combat),all player ability will rise, which means the entire creature and NPC system has to be dramtically increased to account for all of the extra player power.

So, what you're saying is that if one elite combat professional with a droid was as powerful as one elite combat professional grouped with another player, you'd have to design the NPC's as if players sometimes grouped together?

Ohh ... well I see what a radical change in design philosophy that would take. The Real TK421 already made this point much better than I have but ... your argument is no argument at all TH.

Solve all your problems for ya, folks.

Here's a simple system that prevents your uber-combos, doesn't add a silly profession, and gives the DE a wide customer base:

# of droids/pets out remains at 1.

Master DE, BE, Dancer, Musician, Chef, etc. all non-combat Elite profession Masters get:

+1 Combat Droids (limit of power on Combat Droids probably CL20-ish)

No matter how many different professions, the maximum Combat Droids is 1.

Master Brawler, Scout, Marksman, Medic and

Novice BH, CH, CM, Pistoleer, Riflement, etc. all combat Elite/Hybrid profession Novices get:

-1 Combat Droids (applied as to overrule the +1 given by non-combat professions)

Now, all you folks that never go out to fight have a reason to show up aside from dancing in camp. Stand WAY back and send in your Droid.

CL10 combat droid chassis (one or two) can be added for the other folks to play with also.

Sincerely,

Technically..... there is a reason why a DE would need experience to operate a Combat Droid. According to a few Star Wars resources, Combat Droids had to be operated with a control device. They didn't have a "brain" like an R2 or a 3PO droid. So, someone with a lot of experience operating that control device would be able to pull off more tricks and better attacks with a Droideka than someone who just walks into a store and wants to buy one.

I defer to TH, here.

As much as I don't like the idea of a new profession, it's the only way to maintain combat balance. And the Devs aren't going to be happy if they spent the last few months of 2003 and then a few months into 2004 overhauling the combat system just to have to go back to the drawing board and overhaul it again because combat droids have made players so powerful.

I don't want to knock the DM profession until I see what the Devs come up with. It really might not be as bad as we think. These guys do work fora paycheck.
