I notice though that most people who asked for droids fall into these four categories:

1)Players New to the game and are looking for a combat droid.

2) Doctor / Medic looking for surgical droid.

3) Players Ignorant of droid permadeath and that there are no good combat droids in the game.

4) Droid collector.

If you're a decent player, you wouldn't sell to 1 and 3 even if they beg. So far, not a lot of doctors have been putting in orders for surgical droids on my server. And the droid collector is also a rare entity. However, there are PLENTY of 1's and 3's.

In short, no DE success story for me here.

Peace to you guys! We're all in the same profession together here, so let's be kinder toward each other. My experiences have been an amalgamation of what has been posted here. I have a shop, which I usually stock with 5 - 10 of the more popular droids (Adv. R4's, Adv. R2's, Probots, Adv. Probots, food/chem craft + med, weapon craft + data), but invariably I go into town to the bank/starport area and spam some /shouts to advertise what I am selling.

Sometimes I get no response, and sometimes I get many responses. People will run up to me or send me tells asking about my prices or what an XYZ droid does. I always then direct the person to my shop or do a custom craft for them then and there (like an earlier DE recommended I keep one factory crate of many of the droid parts on me to make crafting on demand easier).

You MUST advertise. I do /shout's but also will look at each person sitting in front of the public crafting stations and send them private /tell's about how I can make them private crafting droids that will let them go anywhere and craft. I would say at least 50% of the people I send /tell's to like this end up buying a droid. And most people who buy one droid from me buy another. I have ongoing relationships with many of my customers over the course of days and weeks as they ask me questions about their droids and inquire as to what else I can build.

Build you customer base. Advertise. Emphasize the droids and modules you CAN make, and guide your customers to buy these droids, while steering them away from droids and modules you can't make currently. Charge fair prices: a good profit for you, a good price for them (i.e. 50k for a probot is too much).

As you make money, upgrade harvesters to speed your grinding. Go from smalls to mediums, then to larges as you can. Go from wind to solar, then to fusion if you can. Rent lots from your fighter-class friends who don't need them. Pay them 500 credits per day for a lot. It is easily worth it, and they will be happy to have extra money. Not all of them are rich either, though some are (a creature handler can tame an challenge level 15 animal as tough as a maxed out probot in under 20 seconds and sell it for 15k easily, but I digress).

Have fun! Treat your fellow DE's well.
