Thread: Droids on Demand: A DE success story
Go ask a lawyer a question and then look at your bill. You'll see something like '1 hour - $250'. Not '4 years of college, 2 years of law school, 1 hour - $250'.
He made 60k credits for 15 minutes of work. Jabetha's claims against that are incorrect. Those hours spent grinding the skill enabled him to do the job, but unless someone came up to him when he was a newbie and said 'I will pay you 60k to grind up through artisan and droid engineer until you can make me some probots' they were not part of the job.
More to the point, he wasn't upset because Jabetha posted 'you do realize while it was only 15 minutes of work it took you hours of practice to get there'. What Jabetha posted was rude and insulting (on both occasions).
I don't get your folks reasoning. Yes it takes hundreds of thousands of credits worth of resource that just get burnt on practice mode to get up the skill tree. I am still doing it. But why would you lambast someone for coming up with a suggestion for ACTUALLY SELLING STUFF and making some money while skilling up? No, you are not going to make a profit skilling up, but quite frankly an extra 60k in credits would do my character no end of good right now. I wish I could make better than the basic probot at this point but still working on BP IV. I would must rather sell a probot or two than run 6 or so survey missions I can tell you.
Jabetha's response was simply ignorant in my opinion. Sadly the boards have no /ignore feature
Frankly, 60K credits isn't much to shout home about. You can get 60K units of resources per day by simply harvesting. Those resources would sell for 300K credits. If you sold off only 20% of the resources you collected everyday, you would end up with 48K units of resources and 60K credits every single day.

Many posts contain anger, anger leads to hate, and...
Sorry you don't see it. When you say 'YOU'RE MY HERO' in a sarcastic manner to someone you're not acquainted with there's a good chance people will construe it as being rude.
Arguing over truth and illusion has very little to do with rudeness or civility. As I pointed out, he could have just as easily posted something to refute the claims of 60k for 15 minutes that would have gotten his point across and been civil. Please do not try to hide behind the fallacy that frankness and openness is an excuse for poor manners.
Give it a couple weeks... You'll see his bitterness. Of course if you run away cryin like a little girl over a bit of board flaming you probably won't handle a borken proffession all that well =). Hard but true.

Maybe in your universe friend.
I harvest about 4k of steel a day with my one Medium and 2 small harvesters, I get about 2k of Fibreplast with my 2 small chemical harvesters. I get about 3/4 of the energy I need with my Wind harvester (no good locations at all around Kadaara at the moment, highest I have found in days of searching was 33%). I could sell that on the bazaar at the current prices for a total of (8 lots of 500 units @ 3000c = 24k profits, 2 lots of1000 units @ 3000c = 6k profits) 30k at the most, assuming it all sold at the maximum market price. Of course the local market is absolutely flooded with the stuff at these prices and its selling slowly. Thats also assumingI sold *all* my harvester production at top price and every day in a row. Not likely to happen. A more realistic assessment is I can make about 5000c/day selling half my harvest at less than maximum price to make sure it moves. That almost covers my upkeep costs and lets me powergrind for blueprints IV on half my harvest. It takes about 3 minutes to grind through my resources at most doing this. Thats my evenings crafting at the moment.
Now perhaps if I could *afford* large harvesters and had the combat skills to survive placing them way out beyond the safe zone around a city I could make the numbers you are talking about. But I simplly cannot save up the money to do that unless I shut down my harvesters completely, and just do crappy missions for a few weeks to raise the funds.
Actually, most of my Droid sales come fromdoing my regularactivitiesaroundtownwith my DE tag up. I don't '/shout' or anything. People just know to go to a Droid Engineer when they have questions about what they can do for them.
I think that's one of the greatest features about the game is the ability to search for a specific class in the area you area you are in. Need a slicer? search for one ....Need a Droid? search for a Droid Engineer....need a new harvester? search for a Architect!
I don't own a shop and have no reason to want to. The other half of my droid sales I make are to merchants. I just got to level 2 armor modules. I just keep my merchants updated on the modules and droid types I can build.
I like this method because it means I'm not tied to any structures other than my harvesters, which get pulled up/moved every week. It keeps me doing what I like doing: making droids....not running a store.
For my level (1 / 0 / 0 / 1) I am doing some pretty good business.
Went to Bestine to do Imperial faction missions since I needed money to support my class by purchasing resources off of the bazaar. As soon as I hit Intermediate Productions, I made myself a Treadwell Droid with a Weapon, Droid, Generic Crafting Module on it, and it seems that as soon as I hit that, I've started getting requests for droids.
Got a tell from someone in Bestine wanting an R5 unit. Asked him what he wanted, he said he wanted one for looks, so I told him I'd make him a bare bones one for 1k. He ended up asking me what mods I could put on it for 5k, and I told him my options, and he actually wanted a data droid (not sure why). So I sold him the droid for 5k.
While completing that transaction, my friend sent me a tell wanting a droid. R5 med unit. So I made him one. 10k there (he was trying to help me get going since I've been struggling for money).
The next day, I log on in the cantina (first customer was a musician) and there's the 1st customer I dealt with the night before. I made him a supply for droid batteries, he paid me 1k for 4 of them (tho I didn't tell him I was going to sell them, just planned on giving them to him). So I pull out my Treadwell and start crafting, and he asks me for a R5 medical droid. So I whip him up an R5 with a level 2 med mod, another 5k right there.
Leave Bestine, need to head back to Naboo to pay off house maintenance, while on Naboo get a tell from a friend to meet her in Corellia, so I go, and while I am there in the cantina, I have 2 people asking me for droids (keep in mind, this event is around 2AM PST, the ones I mentioned before after midnight PST), 1 wants one for show, and the other guy wants a combat. I tell him that all I can make are DZ70's, and how worthless they are, but that I have used them in combat effectively, but only under the right circumstances. So he says that he wants the DZ70.
Not only that, but I get usually at least 1 tell a night asking for a droid, granted usually droids I can't make, but still I am getting requests.
DE class is broken, not worthless.
I have gotten some pretty good business just the last couple of days playing.
All you people that "grinded" with your practice button stuck on are missing a completly different game.
I make bounty hunter droids as my staple product, I have a vendor dedicated to them. I take requests for other droids and keep popular ones on a second vendor. The point is, I have never used practice after I made intermediate blueprints.
I sell seekers currently at 350 and probes at 800. Why? because I get good experience from making them and I'm not going to gouge BH's. Seekers take 172 resources, not specific resources either. 350 is a reasonable price, I make a profit and they get a steady supply of droids. So what if it takes 2 GP's and a MM? they aren't the toughest things in the world to make, and a factory makes it even easier. 173 resources for a probe... 800 credits is a big profit, and they are just as easy to make, and yield good exp as well.
After the patch to put the charges in I'll be selling them at 150 per charge for seekers (10 charges, 1500c), and 800 per charge for probes (5 charges, 4000c). Wow, I can't wait. Those will make a nice profit and gain me good experience, while adding to my bank account. plus the bounty hunters are paying LESS then what they paid at the terminals. Everyone's happy. I'll continue to hand make these as well until I hit MDE. Then I will start using factories to make them, since the exp doesn't matter to me anymore (unless they release an elite-elite prof by then).
All other droids are made sparsly, and mostly by request. I just think a lot of you that bitch about "the grind" are missing by far the funnest aspect of the game. I make money and level at the same time. I'm in no rush to get MDE. I'll get there when I get there, and I'll be making money all the way. For those of you trying to make up what money you lost through "grinding" on practice by gouging BH's and other people ignorant or to lazy to shop around for best prices... bah.
The droids I make by request are not out of line of what I've seen around my area, I'll say that. I sold a standardprobot with level 1 armor for 7k and felt that was too much. I'm reconsidering my prices constantly, as I upgrade my harvestors from all the money I've accumulated. Since I put up the BH droid vendor I have not run a single mission, and I hope I never have to run any more.
The crafting/merchant part and tending harvestors is fun for me... If it isn't for you perhaps you should reconsider why you came into the profession in the first place.
