Thread: A Droid that Weaponsmiths would REALLY love

Yeah, the factories would be a cool addition, but we can't have them.

Thats a large part of the Architect's ability, only they can make things to make crates. Therefore we can't have them.

We cannot have any abilities that:

1. Give players skills without the Skill expenditure

2. Enhance skills already enhanced by another class

3. Enhance skills in a way that skills can already be enhanced.

4. Create something that duplicated part of another classes abilities.

This means DE needs to be completely unique. Which isn't what Droids are for. So we're kind up a creeky without a boat.

Skye

I'm following you round numerous posts in numerous threads..dunno why

Nowhere are you making sense.

So, please study the issues before you go posting..if you do that you might get some support.

As it is all you are doing is hurting DE, so PACK IT IN sunbeam, or you will have the pack down on you.

Now, that was telling you nicely.

I hesitate to say this seeing how botched my example isbut perhaps the schematic for this can only be obtained by a master ofeach profession(likeRIS via quest)...

There are alot of options for the final product...

A droid seems a little unfeasible seeming as how this active droid would count against your total pets and would also NOT be online when the owner is not...

A lot using building (requiring heavy Droid-Engineer support to make) could be feasible but how to limit the amount of buildings created is a problem (as well with the droid option)

My third method, in my mindthe most logical method of application (and the most complicated)would be to create a new skill mod and grant this at master...

Anew vendor type only accessable by master crafters of each type not to be counted against total vendor count but a complete new subcatagory... Repair Vendor +1... Have the option to create such vendor in a new box on the structure management portion of the radial near the create vendor one... Make the Vendor type restricted to the Droid catagory and to limit placement of said droid to ONLY 1 per character (even multiple masters like me)... Restrict the effeciency of the droid/vendor to be a certain % of a master's skill at repairing weapons... Say 90% and before you even go there the rating on repair tools are onlyrepair potential ratings not the success rate (the most an item will be repaired to is 99.99% of non-damaged max modifed by condition and such)

(Here's where it gets creative)

Make the quest part of this method grant a schematic for a device that is assembled by the particular smith... Requiring heavy support from other crafting professions (perhaps via repeatablenon-tradable questschematicsof their own)... A non-tradable device containing Bio-Engineered Nano-tech Droids that 'Program' the creator/user's with the nessecary skills/knowledge... Once its used the device melts down and is no more or it rendered otherwise non-functional but leaving the user with permanent knowledge of how to create this...

AS such this would be extremely powerful (hence the limitations to 1 active) and not forpeople that are not wishing to dedicate themselves permanently to chosen profession(fly-by-night masters would not be advised to undertake such an irreverable procedure)... You would need to retain master to place or even use the droid/vendor (would stop resonding in the event you are no longer master - checks would need to be coded for this)

But that is just my ideas on this...

I always play the devil's advocate. Sorry. Thats why calling me names and telling me to go to hell ain't gonna work. Thats probably why my posts make no sense to you, I could just voice up with everyone else in support or against a topic, but instead I choose to shoot any hole in an idea I can, because if you can't justly argue down posts from an "idiot", what chance do you have getting it through the Developers?

I LOVE the idea of a mini-factory, and a lot of these other ideas are awesome.

The problem is that these are the rules that the Dev's follow. Period. I went through a huge mess many months ago at the start of SWG during the initial Doctor's debate with the Dev's about Medical Forage. Whatever abilities it had, those were the rules the skill tree's had to follow.

There are odd exceptions that half meet the requirements, for example Medical Forage and Forage allow you to get resources without the Survey ability. But you cannot specifically choose which ones, nor can you check to see which are strong in that area. These were ok because they in no way created an 'alternative' to the skill.

A mini-factory creates small scale crates in a short time, which in some ways is better than the Factory (if it wasn't there wouldn't be much point), even if only in cost and time prerequisites. This means (even if only for small scale crafters who only have 1 factory to make items that require "2 identical X") that is give players an alternative to a necessary ability from another Skill set.

I run my equipment factories a lot myself, but I know several small scale artisans who create small or only custom orders to a select few and only use that 1 factory, and can barely keep it going. They enjoy their small trade, and this would be a great alternative. But no skill or ability from one class can copy or be a skill-less alternative to another class. There's been a huge debate over the ability of CH's to heal their own pets, since healing the "ability" of medics, and this cuts into their territory.

Basically a Mini-Factory gives us the ability to replace the Factory. Not fully, certainly not on a large scale, but it does in a way.

Disclaimer: This is an arguementive post. This is meant to be used to refine/find weaknesses in this idea. This is in no way a direct statement of the posts opinion on this matter unless otherwise stated.

Hmm, there is a much greater chance that arch's get this... a terminal that can be filled up with weapon/armor repair kits and repair your equipment. But it's a great idea.

This is another one of the ideas I just love.

a stationary droid that does something for someone because we (The players) don't want to do it.

Just as this repair-droid is one example, the FX-7 Medical droid was another. A stationary droid that improves the self-healing rate when close to it or why not the "survey-module"?

Can't the Devs see that these are in fact GREAT ideas that do not cancel another players functionaly nor does it belittle anyone.
These ideas helps us with what we want help with, menial tasks and down-time.

Maybe the Devs could cook up a new profession for this, so that DE's will havea class limited market, something like "Repair Dude/Dudette".

heh

wonderful idea, though

I don't think there's any reason to make this complicated. I don't see a reason to have this big massive quest... just so you don't have to be bothered with repairing weapons anymore.

Frankly, I don't see what the big deal is if everyone DID have a repair droid. As long as I dont have to be bothered to do it.

Limitations HAVE to be imposed otherwise you would have tons of these things running around...

I would like to see everyone have access to it... Nothing really compilcated that requires huge effort... Just something that requires final support from others... Something that brings back the MM in MMORG... This shouldn't be something that you can do sitting in your house alone by yourself... It doesn't even HAVE to be quest based...

However it should belimited toone per person aquirement... If it wasn't then in my case I would have 3 different repair droids/vendors/stations in/near my house... Can we say creating a monopoly??? Everyone would just come to places like this for repairs... You must give the single crafting line character a chance to compete... It will not stop people from banding together and offerering these things in a certain place but it will prevent 1 person from beneifitting totally...

I'm just looking out for the little guy...

This DE like's the idea. But my other brothers in this field are in the strugles of desciding if the DEV's have a brain or not. Just give it some time and try them agian after patch 7 or 8 and they'll listen because they seem to quite down after major patchs and open up to new idea and concepts. Really their not too bad But this whole combat Droid issue is driving some of the nuts. /shrug I don't know why?

Sure would be nice to get some Dev input on why things like this the players want dont get implemented.
