Who appointed you judge and jury over what is and is not Droid Engineering? And if a Creature Handling like ability is added to DE, why is it any skin off your nose? Fact is, it's not. You can just ignore that feature and go right about your business of playing DE like a pure crafter. But get off your high horse right now and stop telling the rest of us that we have to play it your way and no other way! Who are you to dictate to us how we play our Droid Engineer characters? Who promoted you to designers? Sorry, but I reject your view point and your demands that the door to playing DE any other way but yours should be locked and barred.

First of all, its you who want to turn the profession into something that it currently isn't, I wouldn't recommend throwing around accusations of people thinking they're designers. Secondly, yes, it does effect me as a crafter. Adding combat abilities to a crafting profession is a very slippery slope, and once you start down there's no coming back. Even if placing them in master does prevent dabbling, you still have quite a few people (in relative numbers) becoming DE because it now has combat function (they may have been considering it before because they like droids but don't like crafting). It is the job of the devs to listen to the majority (within reason) and once the precedence has been set that we can be a combat profession, that is what more and more people will demand. It would be a great world if we could have the devs work on both combat and crafting, but I can guarantee you would only get one, and I'm not sure how it is right to take away the profession that is already there and put a new combat profession in its place.

That's a bunch of balony. Adding CH type features to the class isn't gonna take anything away from the crafter side of the euqation. It just adds a new dimension that people in your camp can just ignore if you don't like it. What I smell here is an attempt to justify your position out of a desire to keep the ranks of DE's low which would allow you to keep your prices inflated. This isn't motivated by a desire to keep the class from being damaged. It's motivated by a desire to keep new competition out. It's motivated by greed. Do you really expect us to buy the "it will damage DE" bit? Sorry, but your argument is rather transparent. Sorry, but its time to stop being diplomatic with those of you who are trying to twist the direction for selfish reasons, not what's good for the class.

I and those like me on the other hand, want more versatility to get greater enjoyment out of the game. The ability to use features of a class we enjoy to explore and get entertainment out of all aspects of the game. It will keep people like me from being so stuck in a rut doing the same thing over and over that we hit the cancel account. When I've had enough crafting, I'll break out my droideka and go on a hunting and exploring beng. And when I get tired of that, I'll return to crafting. And guess what, I'll be around alot longer in SWG than most of you pure crafters. Why, cause it will take much much longer for the game to get old for me.

woot

people like kolost ( ) are the reason I make posts like this...

I am not god.. but I have an oppinion, mine is to say

how they make the changes I recommended, and for people like kolost ( ) they can switch to a less violent profession like chef, since that profession can kill by what they make ( stat bugs apon eating what they make ) but also wouldnt be a combat class

woah.. did I say that agian.. class.. cripes.. PROFESSIONS.. OMG I really wish to use MY talents in MY chosen PROFESSION to allow me to make more combat droids, some for sale and a prime one ( stats 1/3 of a MCH btw ) for myself.. I will use MY skills I have learned and I will research a way for this to be done.. OTHER MDE will CHOOSE not to use their skills to research these new DROIDS, and therefore their CHOICE of how they PLAY their profession will remain unchanged

btw, a system similar to this will be implamented, like it or not, in time it will, its how much time are you and yours willing to pay for a game where the inherant flaws are subject to the duality of the sacrifice.. I have played MDE shortly after launch, since the first day in the game where I qualified to be a MDE, I have stuck with it due to my CHOICE to do so, and that choice has been influanced by very few people.. one thing is for sure, they can fix the DE profession, to the likeing of the masses, and loose a few customers, or they can FUBAR the MDE profession to accomidate the standard protical of the MINORITY who abit are henceforth known as the whiners, and loose 5 fold more players.

I for one have many repeat customers, who are simply waiting to hit cancle on their accounts dependant on this one VERY StarWars issiue, droids > pets.. I personally know 20 people who refuse to even log in untill the droid issiue is corrected to a more StarWars feel.. and will cancle their account if it doesnt meet their expectations. Saddly 18 feel droids and MDE should be able to accompany groups into combat even at the expence of not being able to own a ( rofl ) Uber droid... and would cancle their accounts if DE dont get he resspect they deserve, the other 2, also friends of mine who will cancle their accounts the moment the DE comunity would comprimise their Alledged athority of their MCH pets, I will miss them.

this post isnt about rants and raves.. I find it sad that people will skim over a post, aven applaud it, or condem it, and then have the gaul to post in it, without first reading it, fully and in its entierty.

this post started as a test, and unless people can come to a grip on their choice , having little worth in the comunity ( mine as well ) result in trying to force why they feel something is how it is on others.. ( I am guilty too ) you have an oppinion on the subject matter GREAT SHARE IT, if your oppinion differs from anothers , who gives a flippin **edit** , post how ya feel about the subject matter , and then.

MOVE ALONG..

I have to laugh at people who scream that DE is a crafting only profession, then turn around and say "Oooooo, an MDE-only combat droid. Cool!"

Not everyone, I know. But a few people.

If we do get an MDE-only droid, I agree that it should NOT be a combat droid.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."

Just to clarify my position on DE-CH additions.
I want DE dabblers to be able to use droids but not build them.

If you want to use combat droids you should only have to invest a few points in the DE profession. Maybe only one branch (experimentation?).

If you want to build combat droids you should have to invest ALOT of points in the DE profession. Maybe even master it.

More people will become DE because combat droids are added, it won't matter if these droids are DE-only or not.

People will become DE to build combat droids because it will be a popular profession and combat droids will be popular.

People will become DE to buildcombat droids no matter if certs are added to other professions, or Droid Handler skills are added to one branch of the DE skilltree.

Merely adding combat droids will change the profession.

People will become DE just to build combat droids and will not care about anything else.

We can't stop that.

Combat droids ARE coming. Because WE asked for them. And they will change EVERYTHING.

I have to agree with Progman on the reason for the influx of DE's. The simple addition of combat droids, irregardless of how their use is granted, will begin attracting new DE's as a new market, and one that promises to have repeat business inherently built in, opens up. That's the major reason I chose to go DE instead of weaponsmith. I saw the threads indicating that combat droids were something to come, and promptly dropped novice weaponsmith, and ground out several harvesters to get DE. I figure by the time combat droids, and the rest of the changes come through, I should have made it to master.

I doesn'tmatter much to meif DE's are the only ones that can use combat droids, if every one can but DE's are the only one to use the best, or if they make a seperate droid handler class. If I can use them, I'll have a walking billboard and safer harvester runs, if I can't, I'll have return business.

While I do believe that the ability to make military grade weapons doesn't mean that you should be trusted to use them (how many people who work on Tank assembly lines actually get to drive them and fire their guns?), in the end it doesn't matter much, I'll still make a profit, one way or the other.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And on a side note, a flamethrower was actually designed for taking out light targets. Specifically unarmored people. It's pretty useless against a tank, particularly modern, enviromentally sealed ones. Against people its great, it's area affect, it does severe damage to the targets, continues to damage them after the initial hit, can spread to collatoral targets as the initial victims run around, has beneficial secondary affects (particularly in enclosed spaces), can temporarily blind those it doesn't hit providing cover for allies to move forward, and is a great psychological weapon as well. Using it on a gnort, or a dancer, may seem overkill, but honestly, if someone lights you on fire, are you going to be thinking about much else at the time?
