Thread: Sodan's Hybrid DE Proposal
Thank you. The devs had a lot of trouble initially with CH because they put all the pet lvls in two trees which gave people 70 pet lvls. They then modified CH to put pet lvls in all the trees to make people really spend the points. My proposal puts all the droid levels in one tree with only 35 droid lvls granted, but the skillpoint cost is the same as if you had spent enough points to get 0044 CH. Thus, players will still have to spend the same amount of points to get the same amount of pet levels.

What a wonderful idea Sodan. The more I read your proposal the more I thought how it could work. I, personaly, am not interested in combat and only use my probotsin self defense.Alot of the customers I speak with have said that they would willingly take one or two trees of Droid Engineer if it meant they could have a suitablecompanion to take with them on large solo-ish hunts. The hybrid profession gets my thumbs up, well done!
The achillees heel is this " DE must have at least one lvl 4 brawler or lvl 4 marksman skill. "
Im almost positive its been stated by the devs (through Drashk) that prereqs cannot and will not be changed.
Other than that, Id sign on.
Certainly better than Patch 7's real title. "Artisan Assault"
MDEs can still craft everythign droid related and be the best at it. Dabblers are good because under this system they can spend skillpoints to "earn" higher lvl combat droids, giving us a market to sell high lvl combat droids. Without a system like this one, there will be no high lvl combat droids. If you look at the Publish 7 changes, the devs have ALREADY put lots of time into a system that allows for high lvl combat modules (and new droid chassis!). Also MANY DEs want to be able to use combat droids and this allows them too if they spend the points.

Sorry guys, I'm just not seeing the point of all this. Perhaps it is because I'm still half asleep with not enough coffee in me. Why are we even discussing DE Hybrids? What is wrong with master DE's being able to craft everything droid related? Why are we contemplating a hybrid or even thinking about catering to dabblers? That's how I'm taking it at least. Someone please break this all down real simple-like lol for my sleeping/dead braincells.
This is not a pre-requisite to BEING A DE. It's a pre-requisit TO USING COMBAT DROIDs. DEs can still grind their way to MDE without a gun. Hybrid DEs can get soem combat training and use combat droids if they spend the points.

Given where we are, and the very bleak future with the current Status-Quo, I would think that with a little work (and lets admit it a little pain to DE) they could and should alter the pre-requisites to enable the added functionality of combat droid use.
It really does look like the only way, and lets be honest here, how many players out of all players would even feel it for more than a couple of days?
It would be different if it was a hugely popular profession, but it just plain isn't.
*edit-added explaination..oops*

I know that they shot down the Cert idea, everyone.

The devs shot down the certs idea. We may all like it, but we're not goign to get any where. This is not a cert proposal, it adds pre-requisites to combat droid use. The combat droid certs are in the DE tree, but to control the droids you must spend the skillpoints and time to get the skillpoints.
My point here was that we had a common voice...and we changed it. Now we have a new common voice (via a great plan)...and I am concerned about how 'set' we are in this.
If we really had all believed that Certs were the best answer, then it would seem (per Woody's "one voice" initiative) that we should have stuck to our guns, despite the hard line the Devs took on Certs. They told us certs where difficult and time intensive to add. I don't equate that with "not possible". I equate that with "We don't care enough about you all to build the best solution, so try again".
If the hybrid thing can work, then I'm all for it. My fear is that if they come back and do anything that smacks of saying "No." that our one voice will waffle again into something new.
My point here is less about hybrid vs. Certs. It's more about how we get a cohesive voice that we can get behind, and STAY behind, regardless of what is told to us.
Without that kind of unity, I am not sure we will be able to move forward.
To be honest, I'm betting that the hybrid thing (despite Sodan's excellent proposal) is likely a non-starter. The reason is that they have done a TON of work to make DH/DC a reality and now don't want to see that work go to waste. If that's true, I wish they would just have the gumption to pony up and say so. I'd rather, at this point, take whatever they are gonna jam down our throats anyway....so that we can stop hearing every Tom, **edit** and Harry ask...."When are those rolling super bots gonna get here?!?!"

Respectfully,
I'm sure everyone's been waiting for me to chime in, so here we go...
First of all, I think at this point its too late for the devs to back out of the utility modules. The switch from DH was last minute enough, even if they did try and pull this off, with such limited development time left I'm thinking it would turn out to be a disaster.
Secondly, I still don't see the problem with taking this same idea but putting it into a seperate non-profession tree. They talked about some kind of mini-profession being a viable way of doing this, but it was dissmissed out of hand. It wouldn't cost any more skillpoints, and it would allow both that mini-profession as well as the DE profession more strength (not necessarily direct combat strength) and flexibility.
If something like this were to go through, the construction tree would be where it needs to go. Armor and combat modules aren't going to help someone who doesn't want to put significat points in DE, whereas being able to craft and experiment on the stims would kill any business we could get from these dabblers.
Now, all that aside, it is the best of the hybrid proposals I've seen (still against hybrid proposals in general, but if it is forced upon us then this is the best I've seen).

2) CL35 is just too much, IMO, when you take into consideration Medium Armor and 40% resists across the board. (And no, I'm not in that camp that believes the Probot is too powerful, but a CL35, Medium armor, 40% resists would be hella powerful, you have to recognize that!).
In all these discussions, we should stop talking about CL. We have no idea what droids they are planning. The devs will place the appropriate content into to the tree. We cant get hung up on language. so therefore, I propose we just go by percentages.
100% of MaxCL at MDE
75% of MaxCL at Box 4
55% of MaxCL at Box 3
40% of MaxCL at Box 2
25% of MaxCL at Box 1
10% of MaxCL Novice
shuffle numbers as you like, but basically 100% at MDE, and let the devs decide the capped CL.
