Although it would be sort of cool to have exclusive ownership if Droidekas for DEs, I'm not totally in favour of it. While it makes sense that a creature handler can build a special relationship and instill loyalty within a pet, we're just building machines. Droids will take orders from whoever buys them.

Besides, why would we want to restrict ourselves from the potential commerce this could generate? If we had the ability to create a tough droideka, we could put a substantial price tag on them as many people would want them. I personally could use the money.

I'm not totally against the idea of having one droid exclusive to DE's but it should more of a rare, lesser-known droid. I think the Dwarf Spider Droid would be the perfect droid to be exclusive to DE's. It's a big, mean battlefield droid.

Here's a suggestion: give us schematics for a droid that is really complicated to build, such that it requires loads and loads of different resources and components to build. Make it such a pain to build that once we're done crafting it we would want to keep it for ourselves, or sell it for a huge amount of money.

I tend to agree, but I would because I am not a DE and would love to be able to use a Droideka, although I would really like to see some IG's at some point too.

Perhaps IG's could be DE only, as they are much more advanced.

I really wouldn't care if they gave us DE's a droid just for us. But I do believe that if anyone can use all the droids it should be us. As long as we can use anything we can make I'll be happy.

I don't like the idea of certs if it means the ones using the combat droids are already overpowered combat classes like say a commando who can take out an ATST. What do they need a combat droid for?

If they want to keep things balanced, letting a strong combat class be the only ones who can use combat droids don't sound very balacing to me.

I think DE's having their own DE only droid is a great idea. Whoever said we are a crafting profession and you dont see weaponsmiths getting WS only items is because: weapons dont move around like droids and are not classed as pets simple. CH get CH only pets, they have more knowledge of creatures etc, same as we have more knowledge of droids and have spent our lives making them, so why cant we have our very own customised DE only droid???

And although you class us as a crafting only proffession, some of us do actually learn weapon skills and like to hunt and do missions. Personally i dont just sit around and craft 24/7, and i'd like to have a nice DE droid to tag along and help on missions ETC.

I dont understand why u all whine and think its such a bad idea. Would be great if we could make even more different droids (CH and BE get so many different kinds) so why are u all moaning when SOE wants to give us another DE droid?? Come on please, DE is a hard proffesion to get through, i had to craft over 300 MSE droids just to get the second blueprints. Catch a wake up people.

But we'll get invited to all the cool parties. Invite Tallin over. He's got a Droideka.

Seriously, I don't really like the idea of DE only droids, but I also understand the balance issue. Any droid that can be used by anyone has to be weaker than a droid limited to a certain class in order to preserve balance and prevent twinking.

My hope is that we get a combat droid that can be used by lots of people with some moderate restriction (must have mastered at least one basic profession) that is stronger than a probot, a second combat droid that can only be used by a few people with more stringent restrictions (Squad leader, or master an elite profession), and finally a powerful combat droid that is DE only.

That will give us something to sell as well as some sort of function in a group (truthfully, I don't care about the DE only droid, but I propose it because there appear to be many DEs who want something like that)

we've forgotten the main point of all fo this, droideka's aren't even confirmed in the update. lets turn the focus to finding if they realy are and not if they are de only, or for everyone. if we wnat to make it really balanced... de's could be able to have more than one droid out at a time like high level ch's but thats besides the point my master artisan and de skills are clogging up all my points currently so even though im working on rifle as well it goes slowly and leaves me with little choice in fighting prof's i chose rifle so i can stay farther back from a fight because being a de takes away from other skills trees of defense stuff. having a few battle droids tailing me around would be AWESOME! oh and before i end this ig-88 cnat be the last one because ive seen ig's ingame as npcs, like theres sometimes one in tyrena as a bounty hunter mission giver guy behind the building where all the crafting stations are by the spaceport. he may ahev been the last of his series but regardless of the database i think that story about him being the essence of the second death star is stupid and probably written by one of the dumber star wars writers. because besides people like timothy zahn, michael stackpole, aaron allston, and a few others most of the books and their writers are terrible. stories like that with ig 88 ruin good prexisting stories by trying to add dumb stuff like how a bounty hunter droid is gonna kill the universe. but yea definately we need some droidekas ig's and maybe a few original droids. that'd be kinda cool. afterall many of the ch/bh animals are original new things. we could use some creativeness on soe's part. but as for de only droids yea theres advantages to that like not selling uber droids to newbs and stuff but i think really they need to fix the whole system and make some sort of plan to allow certain people to make better use of droids. not really sure how and i've ranted for too long. Long live the noble and continually nerfed profession of droid engineer. and when i get my first holocron it had better say the same **edit** thing.

Special combat droids for elite professions... good idea! Especially for squad leader. It's one of those professions that doesn't seem to be drawing a whole lot of people. If the profession offered the perc of being able to purchase and operate a high-quality combat droid (or a gaggle of Battle Droids - a la Episode I), we might see some more squad leaders, ergo, more group battles in the game.

I also think it would be nice if some special new droids were invented soley for this game, and added to StarWars.com databank.

i would like the droideka to be as good/better than the ones on Lok, but like the RIS armor for Armorsmiths, be a quested schematic, wherein we must loot the components from the droidekas on Lok, assemble them for the NPC, hand them over, then we take a look at the schamtic and we get a message

"You look over the schematic, it requires many antique materials that don't even exist anymore. After looking over the schamtics for a few more minutes, you see spots where modern devices could be incorporated instead of the old ones"

So instead of having to go to lok everytime someone asks you to build them a droideka, you use the new components, and get a somewhat worse droid than the Lok Droideka. This one can be owned by anyone and made only by master DEs who have finished the quest. I see something like 3k HAM or maybe 4k, with medium armor and 40% resists as it's max and it's damage could come from a little bit worse guns than the original droidekas, so you only get like 150-250 Damage depending on experimentation.

OR

you get to keep the first schematic with the special droideka parts, as well as get the second with the modern parts.

The first one becomes "Droideka Model A" and requires the old droideka parts that you occasionally loot from the droid caves. It is as good as the cave droidekas, or better, since the materials you use are new and advanced compared to what they used to have. because of the incredible intricacy involved in these droids, it could be DE only. these would be like the 9k HAM droidekas on Lok and give good damage. The armor could be level 6 at max, unless you gave an armor smith the INCREDIBLY RARE Droideka Shield Generator Core that you loot ocassionally, they put it in a PSG mk3 as an optional component or something you can then put a finished Droideka Shield Generator into the droid in second armor slot. This would put his armor up to heavy, 40% resists.

This quest would be INCREDIBLY difficult, but the Droideka model A would be worth it. Probably your entire guild would be needed to collect these parts for you.

Droideka: 4k HAM, 200 avg damage, standard level 6 armor

Droideka Model A: 8k HAM, 250 avg Damage standard level 6 armor, or heavy armor with the optional shield generator.

we should still get more droid functionality, but i think the IG looks dumb. we need a jukebox droid module, the mouse droid needs to be discontinued entirely because i never saw it anywhere but the death star. need more humanoid droids. need more item storage, need more droid animations, need more useful modules, need crafting stations to have info for customer, need droid specialization, need droids to DO things that we wouldn't want to do, even if that takes up a place where a player could do it, like go get harvester stuff, relist items on a vendor, heal us if we incap if there are no medics around, need more droids period, need a beer.

Making DE-only droids means we wouldn't sell any. Seems sorta silly for an artisan profession.

Actually, I would rather see the highest end droids be commando only. I'm a droid engineer, not a droid handler.

Well I'm a Droid Engineer too and I surely do use my droids, especially my Probot on harvester runs.....does that make me a Droid Handler.... fatuous argument IMHO

The crafter only DE's will never agree with those of us who want to be able to use our own products, but that doesn't make them right.

It's simple enough, we make them, program them and as with any quality manufacturer, we test our products in the field. Therefore - we can use them. The argument about Weaponsmith only guns? why ever not? If I had a weapon workshop I would sure as hell be trying hard to make my own personal weapon the best there could be, even if I sold copies of it afterwards..there is no logic in the nay-sayers argument. We should be able to use whatever we can craft - its a robot for heavens sake.

Should there be DE exclusive droids? I used to think so, but I don't anymore. Just dont anyone try to tell me I cant use something I can make, program and test..thats just silly. Can we use more than one at a time? Yes we should be able to.

Whatever the outcome, the future is looking brighter for the first time in SWG memory, so don't lets shoot ourselves in the foot just as hope is dawning.

There is a big difference between "DE-only droids" and "droids that DE's are able to use." Just because you want to use a droid to help you hunt doesn't mean that ONLY DE's should be able to use this droid.

The bad idea is making droids only available to DE, thus ensuring that none will be sold. Like it or not, DE was designed as an artisan profession--you said it yourself: you picked up "weapon skills" to do missions, not DE skills.

Personally, I think that DE's should function in a group by supporting the other droids in that group. I think DE's should be the only class that call multiple droids. For example, one power droid to ensure that the other players' droideka/probot/surgical droids dont lose power during the hunting trip. One repair droid to keep those droids healthy, and a third droid of choice.
