From what I recall as timeline we are between Episode 5 and 6. If this is the case Droidekas are relics, and the IG series droids are the dominate combat units.

There is some very interesting information on the IG series droid is the Star Wars data base, you should check it out.

I wasn't confirming or denying anything. Someone had stated that Droidekas are outdated, I said they weren't. the reason you didn't see them wasn't be cause they were no good. If destroyers could handle Jedi, then they are pretty freaking good I must say. the reason you don't see any droidekas is because the manufacture of all such droids was banned after the Naboo incident.

I am curious. People keep suggesting that DEs should get special droids, or DE only droids. If I am not mistaken, DE is a crafting profession. I don't see Weaponsmtihs with "special weapons" or Armorsmiths, Chefs, Tailors, Architects, etc... with "special items" What justifies giving DEs something nobody else gets?

SOE is the one who will justify it. The idea of a DE only droid comes from them. Some here have embraced that, some of us would rather not have it. Either way, it's SOE, not us making the justifications.

While i would love DE only droids, you're right, it doesn't make too much sense. We are only crafters. But i think that's the debate with some poeple. Are we simply a crafting profession or should we be the droid equivilant to CHs? Again, the latter would be cool...but we really should just be crafters.

Anyway, Droidekas may be old (certianly not antiques), but they're still super effective. I mean, X-Wings go on to be used 25 years from when this game takes place and have yet to be replaced. It was pointed out years ago that the SW galaxy isn't like ours. 50 of their years is like 10 of ours, compared to technological advancement. They never had an Industrial Revolution, while we did.

But quite simply, Droidekas are cool. Cooler than IG droids, for sure. But when this game is in the NJO era and we can build the uber badarseYVH droids, gimme a call.

They aren'tantiquated.

If we were allowed to build them, they would still be top of the line. tje reason you don't see them in Ep. 4,5,6 is because construction of all droid soldiers were banned

The problem isnt that you guys wont have droidikas. You'll have your canned crappy droidakas.

The problem is you cannont experiment to improve the HAM on droids.

You cannot experiment to increase the damage, speed, or atk rating of the droid.

You armor components are set amounts, experimentation and quality mean nothing, its 15% light armor or 40% medium, thats all. Heavy is busted it only goes in non-combat droids, lame...

Sensor suites do jackor poop... dont add modifiers, either to crafting or combat.

You have a million sub components that are usless tinkertoys to make you spend time making factory runs, for something that sucks worse then a non-ch pet that took about 5 min to capture.

Here is my take on why DE's should have DE only droids. If we are smart enough to make them it stands to reason that if anyone would know how to program and use them it would be DE's. There is no skill involved just the knowledge of how they work.

The Same can't be said of weapons. Sure a weaponsmith has the knowledge of how to build a weapon. And they canpoint and shootlike anyone else. But that don't mean they have the skill of a trained marksman.

Here is an example of why DE's would know how to use their droids better then others compared to a weaponsmith.

Take 100 people off the street and give them a gun and ask them to use. All of them would know to aim it and pull the trigger. They might not hit anything because they have no skill with it, but they could shoot it.

Now take those same 100 people and give them a VCR and ask them to program it. Enough said.
