Thread: DE Plan CONCERN Thread

-------------------------------------
MSE droid bomb: terrible idea. I send a droid to blow something up, and then -- I have no more droids or pets out. I have to put up a camp in order to pull out another mouse??

You'd have to make mouse droids into inventory items, like seekers and arakyds, instead of datapad items.

--------------------------------------
No new combat chassis: bad. "New combat droids" is such a tease, if what was really meant was "fighting R5s".

--------------------------------------
Finally: I'm a crafter, not a fighter. My weaponsmith partner has to watch other people use the guns he makes, and I don't hear constant bitching from him or any other weaponsmiths -- "We can make LLCs, why can't we use them???"

So while I think it might be nice to have droids that only I can command, from a fun if-I-cared-about-GCW perspective, I don't see it as a right granted by precedent. I want more droids out, but I don't want exclusive access to droids. I think droids are great and everyone should enjoy them. The "combat droids only DEs can use" bothers me, but more droids out would be wonderful. I'd wander around with a power droid out, or a repair droid, for certain.

And there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm sure the thing that's most upsetting is that we all know that Droidekas are 'in the game' and running, so to speak.

- To start, I'd like to echo what someone said just above. Yes, this list didn't include bugs, but I'd like to make sure the Devs are aware how very annoying it is that customers cannot name "talking" droids - it's my biggest complaint now (that coloring has been - sort of - taken care of).

- I'd like to voice my concern that the Medic community will be expressing their concerns, LOL. A true medical droid is needed. We were promised some sort of this in beta - though at the time I believe it was NPC droids in med centers that would heal for credits We need these droids, and limitations on them are of course inevitable. I think it's important that these droids need consumables that only Medics can make - not components for the initial droid, mind you - but stimpacks/etc., possibly even specialized droid meds (though that may be a problem - the medics could decide to cut us off, LOL)

- I'm a bit concerned that we didn't hear about any new droids. That said, I'm glad that the droids we have are being addressed. Although these sort of fall under "bug fixes" (unfinished features?) - I'd hope the quick changes that need to be made (for instance, the fact that a BLL has no module slots making it utterly useless except for a large, walking sign) are on the horizon. Sin, are you any more privy to thoughts regarding those things?

- Though not a concern per se, I hope they follow through with the idea of "decoration" droids and droids for harvesters. In general, this is what makes droids the least "star warsy" to me, the "**edit**" factor. They should be everywhere, and my concern I guess is that this will be implemented too lightly. They shouldn't count against your "personal" droids, and should be applied to house size, etc - liberally. Even if they weren't fully functional - though some should be - having static droids would be a godsend.

Thanks for you work, Sin.

Concerns:

  • This is not a plan, it is an outline of a plan, almost more of a vision statement. A plan should have concrete objectives and time frames.

  • The 'plan' mentions little if anything about fixing existing functionality. While it's great to have a vision on long-term enchancements, first and foremost should be bug fixes.

  • The proposal will have a negative impact on non-droid engineers. The main thrust of the proposal seems to be about giving DE's exclusive combat capabilities, with little mention of any new functionality that would be desired by the SWG community at large. I will not explain this item in detail now (as it was requested to keep this short), but my basic premise is that droid engineering should be about building droids for others, which in turn would enhance the Star Wars experience of this game.

You're kidding, right? Droid customization issues are a far bigger issue for me, with talking droid naming about #3 (behind Experimentation not actually...err...working).

It would be nice to have coloring taken care of on the "ASAP" list (for good). It was a great thing to add...they just need to go the whole 9 yards on that one.

...to say the least. This has "nerfable" written all over it even before its in-game.

They wouldn't. Have you ever seen a whole profession completely strike, 100%? I didn't think so. I agree to your "consumables" idea. Droid stims would also be become another commodity, like our friends the batteries.

Yes...I too was hoping for new models. It appears we'll have to wait (unless the plan changes).

Me too.

Absolutely.

That isnt a plan. Whoever ocnvinced you that is a plan is selling some good stuff.

A plan contains priorities, estiamted time to complete, start dates and end dates.

If I gave that to the man that owns the co I work for and said this is my plan to implement new technology, he would laugh at me. if that was all I ahd and reiterated I was serious, he would consider firing me.

Could, may, ought to and should don't live in plans. Plans are the framework of which things get done.

I am insulted that this SHAM of a wishlist was pawned off on us as a proposed plan.

I will be dropping DE and possibly the game very soon, this type of effort == **edit**.

1. Need new droids for combat, not combat modules for existing ones

2. Experimentation still has no effect.

3. BLLs have no purpose, as do several other models. At least let BLLs carry items
(lots of them..they are a lifter after all).

4. The decay/repair system is crucial. Get it right the first time and it will be a near panacea for the droid economy. Get it wrong and have to fix it and it will be a profession-wide nerf.

See my post on page 6 of the plan thread. I expounded a little more on my concerns.

HA! Not likely. You're the only person (are you even a DE?) that I've ever seen say "no new combat droids".

Getting new combat droids is my #1 top priority, as well as that of almost every DE I've talked to about this issue (one big exception is my guild-mate, Master DE, named Yod).

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Err...I'd like to clarify. It's my biggest complaint/request from the average customer now that coloring is possible, LOL.

Respectfully,

As I noted above, I wasn't as clear there as I could have been . What I meant is now that colorization is working (at least partially - better than nothing ) and my biggest question/request/complaint from customers is that talking droids still can't be named.

I don't make a lot of droids these days (been busy exploring and doing quests) so when I do it's usually for high-end droids from word of mouth or repeat customers who mail me special orders. Usually these are high-end Probots, Protocol, or Surgicals. Since two of my threebiggest sellers are "talking" droids, I hear it a lot. Most people are understanding (if not all), but it would make a lot of people I sell to very happy. Remember, droid names are very important to people that get attached to their droids (and become faithful customers).

It's definately not even in my top #10 of bug fixes I would find useful, but it definately is something I have found important to customers.
