So you are saying that no skill is required to operate a complex piece of machinery? Just because my 10 year old nephew is capable of operating a TV/VCR, it doesn't mean he can drive. He would need to be educated and have a license (certification?) to operate a motor vehicle.

Maybe they could do the same as weapons... If you aren't certified to operate a certain level of droid, you can still use it but it would be MUCH less effective, and possably not have all commands availablr to it.

I'm not saying non-DE's shouldn't be able to control droids, only that DE's should be much better at it, and be able to manage more complex driods (comparable to a rancor at master DE levels)

Yes eaxactly what I'm saying

Let me give you an example

"R2 shut down all the garbage mashers on the detention level"

This was an instruction issued by a stressed person, through a com-link to a protocol droid who then told the R2 droid what the instruction was

Where is the programing? Where is the needed skills?

Droid Certification does not equal Pet Certification...

DE could never equal BE...

Simply because a bio-engineer creates living creatures with their own will. The creature requires a Creature Handler to control, because they have training and knowledge of how to handle wild creatures.

A droid willturn itself offif you simple tell it to.

If I build the darn thing, you had better believe I would have written the code for it to worship me - even if I were to sell it, it should still NOT attack me even if the owner commanded it to (REF - ED209)

Droid Certification... BOOOo

Lets see if I have this right, they didnt expect pets to be more popular than droids?

Lets look and see where this might have gone just a tad astray.

Release; anyone can own a droid (need to make a camp to pull out a med droid though, but after making a camp you no longer need a to pull out the med droid to heal)- only a ch can have pets (not including faction pets here)

Couple weeks later; probots (at lvl 15) are way over powered, nerf from 3100 ham to 810 and zero armor - still only a ch can have pets

Update; probots still have 810 ham but now have armor back and they DIE - anyone can have a lvl 15 pet (3k ham, 150 damage) that wont ever die

Couple weeks later; droids still useless but no longer DIE right off - anyone can still have a lvl 15 pet

You know even after looking at the timeline, I'm still not sure where they went wrong. It simply must be the players fault for wanting an animal over a droid. Thats it, its our fault!!

"Given how pets took over the world, we want to be very careful about any changes that replicate the same thing all over again only with droids."

Droids SHOULD take over the world. This is Star Wars, where droids were everywhere.

I wouldve thought droid handler is a good idea if:

this was introduced before release. you release that now, thousands of DEs right now would have been conned into playing this game

Droid Handler = Bad Idea

Certs = Bad Idea

Letting us to create lvl 15 type CH pet HAM/Damage stats for droids = Good Idea

I don't think we should be able to even use CH pets, it kills DE profits to b/c instead of a probot, everyone goes for a cute little pet. I think it might be nice to use them as a mount, other then that, leave the animal pets to the CH.

Your post isexactly the point of my earlier rant Starlord.

My post count isn't too high so I don't expect anyone to know me very well. So I'll share this: I've played a few MMORPGs for a few years now and I've never been the type to flame the Devs. After years of EQ and even Shadowbane, I always stayed quiet, thinking "they'll fix it eventually, just have to wait our turn." I always thought you can get better results by rationally discussion a problem with the game than by saying "SOE is evil!"

Well that comment that Holo made really bugged me, and as I think about it more and read the discussions, it bugs me even more. The reason? Its dishonest.

There is just no way he can come to DEs and say "woah, we never saw that pet thing coming". There is no way he can say that he didn't realize with the probot nerf followed by non-CH pets that he was just re-creating the same problem. These Devs aren't stupid, and when someone makes a BS statement like Holo's the message I get is they think I'm stupid.

Screw up? I can live with it. We all screw up. But don't lie me.

Now after making a complete disaster of the DE profession, they've offered no concrete plans. Not a one. Nor even a hint of when something may change. Instead he floats the idea of a bandaid Droid Handler profession.

No way. If they introduce a DH I'm gone.
