Thread: The real droid method...(or, selective crafting)
Yeah... We might want to load up on the caffiene then.. Forgot about that... I have't done any either. Been too busy tending to my harvesters... UGH. If you get a chance look at the "see through your droids eyes" post. VERY interesting topic.
If it's basing stuff on what was seen in the movies we'd have to take away like 70% of everything folks can do in this game. Never really saw a Bounty Hunter use a droid to track anyone, never saw a landspeeder anywhere but Tatooine and possibly Coruscant, and Probots were not attack droids (OK guess that's the same)...
This game involves so much of the potential of the SW universe we never got to see in action. And besides as far as the movies go, for what the Empire was using the Probots for it'd make no sense for them to install a medical module, or a chemical crafting station, but that doesn't mean you could install it if you were making one to act as a guard for somebody who could utilize that extra ability as well.
Anyway, we all can do what we desire in the confines of the game, so make droids as you see fit. I just think most of our customers want as much as possible in one product. Who really wants to have to have 3-4 droids to meet all their desired uses?
It's basically been suggested, but I do think it would definately help if certain droids had inherrent abilities already in them - Surgical having some built in med ability that would be enhanced with med modules? R units maybe having a needed control aspect for the coming spaceships? Protocol droids possibly making it easier to control interfaces with all kinds of things like harvestors, house controls, vendors? Binary Load Lifters beng able to transport large amounts of materials, maybe even move your house? Mouse droids possibly having far less potential uses than a higher droid still with only 1 module spot?

Actually I have a post on this topic on the first page. To sum it up, I said that I think that it is cool thaT we can make these "modified" droids..because in Star Wars anything can happen...my problem is that eleventy million of these "unusual modified droids" will show up, and out number the "standard" versions. (and by standard I mean the more formal uses...ie R2s without weapons and whatnot. I do like that we have the ability to make droids in any configuration (My character will refer to these as "illegally modified astromechs") I just don't want the exception to become the rule.

I disagree.. simply put, not many people are going to want a pathetic little R# unit with a gun sticking out of it when it's get less than 300 HAM, even if it is armored. There's not much call for the Probots, at least that I've seen, with their <sarcasm>massive</sarcasm> 820 HAM as it is, so why do you think there will be more of these "illegally modified" (I like that, btw) Astromechs, when they'll be blown to bits faster than a Probot will? Although it's true that they can outlast a DZ-70, but come on...
