This is a topic I have been thinking about for a long time as well. The parts would have to be either:

1. A non removable implant that may improve something about a character a small amount

Or

2. A removeable implant that is for pure looks only and does nothing to help anyone in any way.

I would much prefer the second option to be the chosen one as there are way too many power gamers on the server I play on and would hate to see every other ROFLPWNSJOO type of person with a cybered arm or whatever. If there was no benifit to be gained from having such an addition then great. Sure there would be a mad explosion of them to start off with as happens with all new stuff but after a while the 'oooh shiney' factor would die off and only a few people would have them.

I tend to agree. In the films, we've seen at least two people with implants like the ones we are talking about and in one case the person exhibits tremendous strength (Vader) but in SWG STR is pretty much meaningless.

I would want these to be strictly cosmetic.

You might want to check the cross version of this over in the DE forums

Doctors would prepare the toon's body. DEs would craft the implant. IDs would possibly change it's look but not it's function.

i like the idea of the implants (i used to play a game called anarchy online where you had 'true' implants (your skeleton was replaced) that had stats and were required for high level gaming). i like the idea of having them just for looks, but the sales will spike the first week or so then plumit, which will make them basicly useless to make. maybe have some bonuses, but nothing extreme (like maybe having a + to damage for h2h (not a variable, but added), having a + to aiming with ranged). or to make up for the bonueses, unable to wear armor where you have the implant (ie if you have an arm implant, being unable to wear arm armor on that arm). there is a very small minority of people in this game (in any game acctually) that will want something just for looks.

My emphassis in yellow.

I disagree. I have seen many players go after decorative content (loot kits, paintings, furniture schems, furniture) like mad. Many people just want the cool factor and want to stand out from the sea of comp wearing clones.

its one thing to decorate your house, there you want it to be personalized because its your space, however having something 'worn' or on your toon, alot of the players i ran across dont care if they look like the biggest idiot on the planet as long as it has some sort of character enhancement, and will often 'dis' people or items that look bad ass but dont do squat for them (oh...the harassment i got back when i was in EQ trying to explain why my dark elf mage would run around in a dress that would not only reveal 90% of my chest but also the color of my panties when there were much better (and more concealing) dresses out there). fortunately, i am not one of those people. i however may not use the implants as that will ruin my sexy factor (even though atm i am running around in a jacket, long sleaved high necked shirt, long pants, boots, and gloves, but that will change..). though, you may be able to tap into the roleplaying segement that will favor the pure look impants just so they can have that extra role-play edge ('oh? this old thing? my real arm was bitten off one day when me and some friends decided to go rancor hunting...', 'how i lost my hand? well,' *pulls out a nice vicious looking pet* 'fluffy here got a wee bit upset with me one day when i didn't feed him on time')

Lindalu,

I see your point, but I wouldn't want to see this turn into another "needed" component to be competitive. Composite armor, krayt weapons, foods, doc and dancer/musician buffs, et cetera are considered essential to game play. I don't want to add to it, UNLESS ( I just had a good idea) it replaced one of those things.

For example, how about Doc/BE/DE crafted temporary boosts to the ability of yourprosthetics (aka buffs)?

LOL Careful now talking about electronic implants with batteries could make this conversation go down hill fast.
