DE was my unlocking proffesion so i kept it and i have come to like it. Bounty hunter droids are main income and i just have fun playing a DE when not on my Jedi. I run several vendors and always keep them stocked, and i really like custom orders when some one see's the title above my head. For me DE is a very rewarding Non-combat proffesion.

I would also like to iterate the point of "The Right Droid for the Right Price". Even though you could put a level 6 Medical module in a mouse droid, it really is not something you want to do. People who would want or pay for that kind of module would expect to havea more approptiate droid for their profession. I guess it is kind of a difficult topic to convey, but really it is about usage and image. A Doctor Buffing people will have the cash to be able to easily purchase an Adv. Surgical Droid with a level 6 medical module for really any price you might offer. That doesn't mean you have to gouge them, but don't rip yourself off either. Sell it for a high price, and if they think it is too high you can always barter with them, to reduce the price or even throw in a repair kit, or a customization kit or whatever. However, remember that a Master Doctor would rather have a Surgical Droid standing next to him when offering buffs than a lowelyMSE Droid. It helps sell his service.
That is not to say that I don't offer mouse droids with medical modules, but people expect to buy mouse droids for cheap, so I will put a level 1 med module in it and offer it for 500cr. They sell as well as the level 6 med module surgical droids. Itend to look at the schematics in relation to the players. MSE droids I pretty much use for novices. I'll usually put just level 1 modules in it and that's all. The R5 and R4 droids I use for intermediate users, so I'll put level 3 or level 4 modules in them and sell them for quite a bit more. The R2, R3 and Probe Droids I pretty much make for the high end user, such as it currently is. These droids require lots of specialized components, are tedious to put together and consequently get the level 6 modules and so I sell them for quite a bit. (Prices tend to be relative depending on your server. I am on Test Center, so the econemy there is way different than the rest of the servers)
Most of my high end business comes from custom orders, which I get a lot. Be careful though, some people order stuff and never pick it up, so don't be afraid to ask for a deposit up front. Unlike WS or AS, you can get fairly invoved with your clients, especially if you have to teach them how to use the droid, and sometimes that is fun too.
If you don't like the tedium of constructing some of the droids, do factory runs of some of the components. This not only speeds up production of the droid, but it makes construction easier as well. In fact, with most of the Advanced Droid schematics, you can constuct the whole chassis in factory crates then place the modules in them later as the need arises. that is what I mainly do. Then I have most of the droid made for when the order comes in or the vendor becomes empty.
As far as gathernig resources go, don't worry about it that much. It is not really that important. If you don't have the resource for a specific component, then make a lesser droid and put it up on the vendor. As with any crafting profession getting good resources take awhile to get, and I know that you want to put the highest quality resources and components in you droids to make them the best, but it dosen't always happen that way. And really, for the most part, it doesn't matter. The components you make right now have very little to do with the outcome of the droid. A level 6 medical module will always give 110% bonus to the Doctor using the droid, no matter whether the module experimented to a high quality 92% or critically failed 3 times resulting in a crappy 49%. Or worse even.
I guess the overall point of it is to have fun with it. If you don't get the millions you wanted overnight, no big deal. If you do a good job and you are fair with your customers, you will get a good reputation and eventually make oodles of cash. But don't think you need to take a hit to make the sale. And don't worry about the tedium of makeing all of the components you will eventually figure out a way to deal with it. Take the time now to try various schematics and see how you want to do them, and keep an eye opn the resources while you ware doing it. Eventually you will get what you need to make things happen for you. Medical droids are always a good thing to keep in stock even if they are not very good. People with buy them, and if they want something better, they will come back to you.

To the person that says I was moaning 'cause I don't have much money, your wrong. I have a nice sum of money thanks. Mainly due to getting lucky on the bazaar one day. Found a Travel Pack that had 43 items in it, whenI won it, it had loads of uber stuff in it that I sold for a nice bit of money.
The point I was making about some (not all, remember I'd not accusing you all) MDE's ripping people off is the amount of customers that have said to me when buying my medical droids rating 100 (several level 3 mods stacked) that mine are cheap. My answer always was and always will bethat some MDE's like to put the modules in the more expensive droids when this is not needed. I'm not saying they are ripping people off in that statement, I'm just saying what I see. Anyway, like I said, it gave me a lot of custom and alot of word of mouth advertising.
Since being MDE I really haven't made many droids, maybe its not the profession, maybe I just want to take a break and maybe I'm just waiting for the right resources to appear so I can extract them.
And when I wasn't a Master Artisan I had a friend who was who'd supply those parts.
