AFAIK, we haven't seen schematics yet, so we don't know if it can indeed be used as both.
Yes, as I have said a half-dozen times, it is very cute - but unless it a) provides a function we don't have already (i.e. is better than a Probot when it comes to dmg/stats) or b) takes utility as well as combat modules, it's just another skin.
I think you will find that most of the people that have posted in this thread are more upset that the Devs literally took one of our mantras ("We don't want R2 with a blaster strapped to him") and not only made it a reality with combat modules but they translated that literally into this frame. Sort of like sticking their nose up - "Haha, how do ya like them apples?"
So yes, although I don't mass produce anything but combat droids I do make utility droids for friends/long-time customers, I can see a few crafter friends switching to this new droid to replace their old crafting R2, if it can indeed hold utility modules.
But that's not addressing our problem : we already have no problem selling to crafters and people who want cute little droids (Power Droids are very popular for me simply because they are different and cute). We do have a problem with the larger combat community (which benefits from nothing but decay-free storage) and everyone but crafters and medics. Like much of the Publish 7 changes, it's not that we don't appriciate it, it's that most of them are going to have little effect on our long-standing issues.

My first thought was one of the critters from Batteries Not Included (80s B science fiction movie) lopped the head off an R2 unit and attached itself. Well, I was worried the droid invasion would bringR2 with a blaster strapped to his claw hand.This is much, much worse. I think I'll have nightmares tonight going over the engineering for this design. Didn't the dome hold all of the intelligence and sensorycircuitryin the R series?

SirVimes, the vast MAJORITY of DEs agree with you. We never ever, EVER wanted R2's with guns.
Well, I have a terrible feeling it's too late to stop Pub7, so it's not worth shouting against it now.
Instead, we might as well make the most of it. Now, anyone have any idea how to sell one of these (oh, and I'd like to put in an order for one as soon as they come out. My life just isn't complete without a droid that has the name "Exterminate-Exterminate" over its head)
