I disagree that the XP requirements are excessive.

Being DE 0204 I have found the grind tedious but not unbearable. _Getting_
to 0204 was somewhat painful (having done it twice), but not inordinately
so. I made enough Master Artisan sales (resources, survey, and powerups)
to easily cover my costs through the grind to 0204. Right now my DE sales
largely support the DE grind.

I usually keep two steel harvesters and a chem harvester pulling up whatever
steel and fiberplast happens to be around. Sometimes I don't even put
power in them... just maintenance. Inefficient, but that's ok.. I'd rather
have fun doing other stuff than muck with harvesters or grinding all the time.

When I get in a DE fit I'll churn through 33k steel or so in a few days
just grinding... then I'll fall back to sleep.

As far as getting to Novice DE goes, I think the requirements are not
inappropriate. As I recall only WS exceeds DE general crafting requirement,
which makes some sense to me, given weapons are less modular and a bit more
specialized than droids are, and very complex.

My pace through the tree might be slow for some people. YMMV

Oh and I think doogiehozer, that architect uses more exp than DE, and DE uses mroe than WS. I remember passing AS and WS. Also, I have to say again that i dont think that protocol or repair droids should be able to fight. I dont know about you guys, butI remember 3PO saying "Im programmed for etiquette, not destruction!"

Actually, I don't think that the exp required is too harsh.

What I do think is too harsh is the fact that you get way more experience for macro making parts (see advanced droid frame) than for finished droids.

I don't mind DE being hard to master. It took me 2-1/2 months, working my way up by doing missions to buy hoppers to make droids and grind. It makes it an achievement to master.

But I agree that they system does need some work.

i don't think its really any different from the other crafting proffesions. So you cant sell a mse? Next time you want a really good harvester are you going to ask a novice architect for a good ber harvester? are you going to ask a novice weaponsmith for a t-21? no, novices in all the elite crafting proffesions have hard times selling mse. I started de back in august and just now made MAster. Did i have fun? hell ya! Did i sell millions and millions of droids? no. Am i a millionare? no, BUT I HAD FUN. Dont just grind to grin, im also a novice rifleman, i only grinded while i was waiting on shuttles, the rest of the time i traveled from planet to planet joining hunting groups and having a great time. I kept my Novice De flag up and from time to time i would get a droid sale. I made more money in combat and most important I HAD A BLAST!
