thunderheart: i have a perfect solution for adding lvl 30 combat droids (drodikas or therelikes) to the game, and not having to put a restriction to them, in form of a cert system, or even a whole new proffession!

and the anwser to the grail would be: just multiply current player HAM values by x10 or better x20 plus adding the same (or maybe a little adjusted) factor to damage MOBS deal out (excluding players, their pets and upcoming droids)- this way everyone could have a (droid) pet, instant PVP death would be avoided, fights would last longer, and people couldn't master combat proffessions in a day!

*tadaaaaa -in case ur looking for new employees, don't hesitate to drop me a line*

simple thought:
own combat level = max droid lvl with a max of 30

so master pistoleers, pikemans, BH ... can hold a lvl 30 droid (comando get combat lvl reduced by 50% [cause hes 30 with NV allready i think])
architects, artisans, tailors ... hold those non combat bots

the cert system idea is nice but this one is even nicer

every typo i made here is fully wanted and only exists due to entertainment reasons

I've a feeling I'll be pursuing a new career soon.

All droids should be useable by any player. Period. Multiple droids could be used by a DH class if that is desired but I hardly see the point of having such a class. Last thing we need is a new CH clone.

No certs.

No new class.

I want to be able to sell my product to anyone. Correction... I want to be able to sell my WORKING product to anyone.

A DH class is not a solution. It willonlymake things worse.

If there is insistance on making uber powerful droids to go toe to toe with uber powerful pets then why not connect droid controllability withoverall combat level, similar to mission levels.

The big 'balancing' issue I forsee is whether to allow level 10+ (combat Bio pets) with level 10+ combat droids?

Personnaly, I would not. Maybe if its tied to the already present "Max level of pets" limitation for balancing issues. This would only apply to Creature Handlers.

For example if I were a Master BH and a 3400 CH I would have a limit of 31 with regard to 'pet level'. Then the max level of Droid AND CH pet I should be able to use at once would be 31. However, CHs are not allowed to have more than one Bio pet out until they also get to Management III - so we already have blancing issues. I see no problem introducing code where only those CHs with Mangement III can have their Bio pets out with a combat droid. If you follow my suggestion above with regard to using droids to balance, CHs would only be allowed to have a combat droid via another profession (e.g. Bounty Hunter, Ranger, Comando, Squad Leader etc.).

I do see balancing issues here but each profession as they stand now are NOT balanced so the distribution of the droids can go along way in resolving this.

Thats a smart post.

The flip side is that all the professions are being balanced so the combat droids would throw all of that out of whack.

The balance issues specifically are:

  • # of allowable pets

  • # of skill points and experience points spent to gain the ability to handle the big droids

What I'm failing to understand is why everyone is wanting to tie droids and faction pets to Creature handlers. Faction pets oughta be tied into faction rank, and droids do what they're told/programmed to do, and last time I checked handling creatures isn't the same thing as programming.

Heres another suggestion which may help (and could be applied to BE with some work)

Either with our without Certs, let DE's and BE's operate all the creatures /droids they can make, BUT if they dont have the certs etc, then remove the attack and guard option/commands from their training or control menu.

So in this way, a DE or BE could display their high-end creations WITHOUT being overpowered by the attack or HAM of the pet.

In this way I could run around with 2 Droidikas or whatever, without having the ability to attack other players/mobs with them. They would just be eye candy, for me to advertise my creations androleplay with etc.

Personally I like the idea of Certs, with a requirement to spend skill points to use the Cert, and with the option of using any droid at a reduced effectiveness, and no attack ability if the droid is in the uber range.

Hows that? too complex to implement?

This is ingenius. You've all been thrown into disarray, again, and now the profession fix will be delayed even further. I'm glad I got out when I did instead of crossing my fingers and waiting for some fix that will now be months down the road.

Issac, I agree more than you know. The current Poll about Combat or Utility shows most are asking forfixes and enhancements to current modules over the addtion of new content via combat droids.

The DE's are killing their own profession.

Thunderheart,

You say the cert system as outlined would be hard to implement. what about a more basic version related to specific droids given to specific classes.

Starting Professions -

Artisan, Entertainer, Medic & Scout, Brawler, Marksmen, & Politition

  • Give these no additional combat droid - the only thing they should be able to useis the current droids available ingame. (maybe even drop the probot)

Elite Professions -

Architect, Armorsmith, Bio-Engineer, Chef, Dancer, Doctor, Image Designer, Musician, Creature Handler, Weaponsmith&Tailor

  • Provide all of these with the cert for basic Battle Droid (simple level 10 pet) and probot at novice level

Carbineer, Combat Medic, Commando, Droid Engineer, Fencer, Merchant, Pikeman, Pistoleer, Ranger, Rifleman, Smuggler, Swordsman, & Teras Kasi Artist

  • Provide these with the cert for basic battle droid and probot at novice level

  • At master level provide them with super battle droids (the ones from AotC) and droidekas

Bounty Hunter & Squad Leader.

  • Provide these with the cert for basic battle droid and probot at novice level

  • at the completion of one skill tree provide them with the super battle droids and droidekas

  • At master BH grant IG-88 droids

  • At master Squad Leader provide them with the ability to opperate 2 or 3 droids.

This is all that is really needed in the range of combat droids, We all know that 80% of this game is aimed towards combat so it should only be fair that DE can provide those who are combat orientated with the ability to improve there combat skills through the use of droids.

Make these combats more useful than non-creature handler pets (so that they are more appealing that creatures to fit in with the SW feel) but dont make them so powerful that they make CH pets obsolite.

Keep in mind that if someone wants to minmax and get an uber pet they would be better to get a few levels in CH still than to rely purely on a droid they are given. (BH should be made the exception since there choice to Master BH already forces them to use almost all there skill points to do so)

Now take time to read posts listing useful droids that appear throughout the SW universe that ARE NOT combat orientated. - most are in the game but provide no unique utility and are purly based on looks.

heres one i feel would enhance the game.

Podrace Pit Bot "tap the nose" -A light weight assistance droid that can be used by all to repair vehicles on the fly - treat them as seeker droids (once used they use up a charge) and keep the cost of the repair the same as if done at a garage (i read numberous posts saying the cost is there to provide a soaker for money)

Imperial Scanning Droid (A New Hope Special Edition) - Another seeker type droid that could be used in PVP to highlight an opposing factions target (e.g. you are battling an overt rebel in PVP with in a crowded mos eisley street, this droid when used hovers by your target highlighting him from the crowd, also possibly reducing the miss chance for shooting at a moving target)

Bottom line - we want Droids to be commonplace in the SWG universe as it is in the SW Universe. Utility and Functionality is greater than Combat ability where droids are concerned but combat ability should not be ruled out altogether.

Here iswhat I would like to see:

1)Usual droids

This is allour current droids + future utility droids and low level combat droids like probot.

This class is available for everyone without restriction (like now)

2)Light combat droids

This combat class is better than the current probot but definitively not uber.

Im talking about 30%/40% more in raw power.

This droids come in different flavors (different kind of damage, different special skills and attacks...)

This droids require a classic certification to be used (like a weapon certification)

Certifications are distributed in all coherent professions

3) Heavy combat droids

A specific profession (DH) is needed to use this class.

Heavy combat droids powercan be comparable to a combat profession (CH, Rifleman...) because it will cost the same amount of skill points.

4)DE

Droid Engineers will be able to use all 3 classes of droids.

Some specifics Heavy combat droids could be restricted to the DH profession

With all this, the only change in power balance will be the increase from our current probot to something a little better (the 30%/40% I mention can be balanced). I believe the game can afford it. Its not like the probot is really uber.

Well, sorry for highjeacking a thread, but I'm a jedi, and there is no use trying to fix our prof b/c the devs don't care what experienced players want... Not looking for sympathy.

When I used to be a DE, i envisioned quite a powerful arsenal, not just trying to get some cl 15 droid after spending 25 skill points (what it would cost to get a novice skill). The fast fact is that pets, no matter what are dumb. They are not as brilliant and don't have human ingenuity, no matter whether you put 1 programming hour into it or 100 million hours into it. The fact is that any PC equivilant to a CL 15 will win. The way you level your pets is either In sufficient or broken, you pick. Just keep in mind that a CL 15 pet is equivilant to a Noob Novice artisan (not knocking it) with a republic blaster. All that is required to beat one is the automatic auto attack. You don't even have to be sitting at your computer.

we never asked for a droid handler profession, in my mind, it was pure bad game design to have classes that do the same thing, it makes no sense. there is no reason to have 4 professions basically doing the same stuff, do you understand? it's a waste of people's skill points. a waste of time since if that goes live alot of des will either leave or untrain, i'm getting ready to untrain next month already. the cert system that most of the des talked about was a cert system that spreads out in all trees instead of having a "profession" that does it all. to me, the devs are just trying to take the easy way out and that is not the attitude i expact when i pay 15 USD a month to play this game. as a customer i'm not satisfied at all with the decision. either you have mis-informed the devs or they just don't get it.

if you plan on giving DE both crafting and usage then you better be ready to change BE into a crafter and user as well

its only fair
