Thread: Who will be making the player vehicles?

I have to disagree with you YodaMac, and this is why...

Recently the planned profession of the Urban Planner was scrapped due to the DEVs belief that an entirely new profession couldn't be justified by the release of 17 new buildings. The Urban Planner was supposed to be the first Elite-Elite class to be released, but since there wasn't enough content to justify an entire class, the idea was scrapped and the building were added to the Architect profession.

Now, with this in mind, do you believe that the DEVs can add an entire profession based around 2-3 vehicles that will be hitting Test Center in the next month? There simply is not going to be enough justification to add an additional profession to make so few vehicles. Maybe in 6-12 months from now, when the Space Expansion is added, there will be enough 'vehicle' content to add a seperate class, but it just won't happen right now. That leaves the DEVs with only two posible classes to chose from...Droid Engineers and Artisans.

Lets look at the Artisan profession. A Master Artisan is truely the jack-of-all-trades, but Master of none. As a Master Artisan you can make weapons, armor, clothes, food, harvesters, and a large number of parts that are needed by other professions (namely DEs). Artisans gaining the ability to make a basic model vehicle is completely in line with how the Artisan profession has developed so far. I'm assuming that a very basic vehicle will be introduced on the Engineering 4 line of the Artisans tree and will require very few, if any other parts to build.

If more than just one vehicle is introduced, Droid Engineers are the only profession that can 'realisticly' produce them. Not everyone will agree with me here, but since there simply won't be enough justification to add a seperate class for the remainder of the vehicles that will be introduced, theywill have to fall under the Droid Engineer heading.

Yeah, Swoops are suppossed to be VERY fast. Might be better if a speeder bike was buildable at Eng IV, and a swoop at Master Artisan...

Amazing insight :-)

Vehicles will not be introduced with a new profession, and there will be three base models.

But down the line, who knows... they are architected to be extensible.

Sorry, guess I'm kind of tooting my own horn about guessing correctly about 2-3 vehicles and no new profession being added. This sort of gives me a little hope =)

AH pudu!

I was hoping for a Swoop Mechanic or somesuch profession it would be my chance to make some money since I dont want to go the other Artisan advanced profs. But if its a Master Artisan Skill then I won't moan too much after all I'm already one and Emperor knows I need to keep my skillpoints everyone counts.

I thought it might work something along the lines of a combined profession. Perhaps a speed controller brain or somesuch would have to be made by a DE, conductivity fibers tailor, fuel cell discharge weaponsmith or so forth. Just my 2cr would make it a little harder. Then again I make 0credits on Master Artisan.

You guys got it all wrong. Due to the fact that this will adversley effect their business of selling mounts, the devs will give CH the ability to make mounts

What would make sense is droid engineer is at least a jump off spot to walker vehicles profession engineers. AT-PT, AT-ST, AT-AT ect.

Devs said vehicles will be in Engineering - so unfortunately every many and his dog will be making them (= not much bsuiness opportunity)

Since we are only getting single player vehicles (until the space expansion?) I suspect we'll only see a speeder bike and a swoop. Swoops are faster than bikes but have a lot less structure (read: seat with big engine) not sure which the devs will make the 'harder' of the 2 to make (pretty irrelevant since most people will already be Eng IV anyway)

I _suspect_ when the space expansion arrives we will get another elite artisan profession which will be Vehicle Engineer. This will probably start at muti-seat Land Speeders (like Lukes) then move onto Air Speeders (Episode 2 chase kind of thing) and then starfighter scale spaceships (so single seat fighters up to light freighters)

I cant really see them putting the ATST in unless it has no combat ability (because otherwise everyone would just have one and it devalues those who saved the Imp faction points) but they might put some walker-type vehicles in (but they'd be slower than a speeder so less desireable) but I really dont see them putting an ATAT in there.

This is not really on direct topic, and should probably go in another forum, but regardless....

I wonder where they will have us store these? I mean, after you get off your speeder (or walker or whatever), do you just drop it in your inventory, or put it into your 'datapad' like creatures? I mean, where does your character really keep all these big things? Hahaha.

Maybe they'll put big parking garages in, and you'll always have to wander around, figuring out which of 3000 identical speeders is yours... now THAT would be fun.

A new profession for shipbuilder / vehicle builder would be awesome; I would go for that in a split second.

Actually there are already garages in the game

Likely it will indeed be Artisans, or a new profession linked to Artisans.

But hey, keep your fingers crossed for that Space expansion! You never know, they may let us build Droid fighters!

Hi Guy

Im a Londoner and only been playing SWG for just over a week. Just made Novice Droid engineer so I apologise if my suggestion totally missed the mark.

I think there are a number of possibilites for the future vehicles.

1. Vehicles will certainly be player made - everything else in the economy is.

2. Vehicles will be complicated therefore the profession responsible for it will springboard off the Master Artisan profession. This should be good news for DE's as you can ony be an efficient DE if you have the Master Artisan.

3. Droids will almost certainly be involved - i suspect they may bring in a construction droid of some sort to enable this to happen. This would balance out the DE/CH imbalance to my mind without too much effort on the DEV's part.

4. A Vehicle Crafting station will be created. I doubt these will spring up all over that place and again will probably have to be made in conjunction with the Architect Prof.

5. Droids will be the tool that is use to repair the vehicles as per the maintenance droid on top of the falcon in the Empire Strikes Back. So even if we dont make them I think we will be essential in keeping them running.

7. The Vehicles will only be made by an elite profession as per creature mounts.

I could be totally wrong but I suspect that us DE's are about to come into our own.

Happy Crafting Guys

Would not surprise me one bit they give vehicles to CH profession.

Seriously, for the amount of BS we have had to put up with, DEs should be getting ALL Vehicles to make. Nothing less.
