Thread: How do you experiment?
It depends on the complexity. I use 3-4 at a time for most.
Actually, it probably does matter, but I just haven't bothered to collect data on it.
What I have whimsically observed, on let's say ranged weapons,is that experimenting one block at a time sometimes produces a slightly lower minimum damage, but higher wound rate. Experimenting many (three, four, whatever) blocks sometimes produces a higher minimum damage at the cost of some wound rate. Maximum damage and speed always seem to gate out for whatever resources are being used.
Have I noticed any consistent behavior? No. At this point, however, so much of my crafting goes like clockwork that I tend to notice the little variations every now and then. No further information available however...
Some things it doesn't seem to matter how I experiment it always comes out the same ... other things I see wildly differing results on these are usually sub-components, generally... anything with the world Projectile in it
, Scopes, Stocks...
As for weapons I typically experiment to 1 under maximum and than 1-2 points until Damage is maxed, and move to efficiency with anything left over
3 boxes at a time usually until i'm 3-4 short of the max damage experiment... if i finish it off with a full experiment i have seen lesser results than if i did the single box experiment... plus on some weapons when I get to a certain point the great experiments have given me 2-3% increases instead of the 7%, hence i try and tailor my experiments to avoid those areas that seem to enjoy being bugged... (hitting 80% on laser carbine/rifle seems to always yield moderate successes for me until i get past 84%)
Play around with it and find out what works best for you... and you might find the bugs in experimentation that i have been trying to trace down and report (other than the obvious stuff like the CHEMICAL DISPERSION UNITS)
This is what I do. I do one at a time, for me by doing this(if I get Great results all of the time, if not I destroy it and start over) I am able to have a couple experimentation points left over for durability. This proceedure may take me as many as 20 attempts to accomplish though. Components are a lil different, I usually experiment in Efficiency with the remaining points instead of durability.
Before they fixed the projectile feed machines the only way to do those was to put all of your points into it at once till you got an Amazing success to get the best results.
Just my 2 credits worth.
Start with 3 in damage - then 3 more in damage. Analyze the situation. Usually 2 more will top out damage - then the last2 into effeciency.
Well, if I am doing something touchy, that would really suck if it got totally messed up, I do 2 at a time. If I get a moderate, it seems easier to come back from a 2 point moderate than a 10 point one.
If I am just grinding out something that I can afford to loose the materials, I place them all at once, then flip off the game with an "*$% you" directed towards the game when I get 2 moderates in a row.
If the game gives me two critical failures in the row.. some reason I get 5 times the double crits as single ones, the moniter gets the third digit from the left(or right). ![]()
