Thread: Real Life Strikes back....

The way I see it, it's a huge waste of talent to grab someone capable of making argumentation and ideas and telling them they're not allowed to express them because of their position. If that's the way it's going to be, we should aswell find someone who isn't going to be contributing with good ideas anyway and tell them to keep track of "ours".

Keep up the good work!

The one anti-DC argument I can think of not based on those three is this:

A Droid Commander profession will compete with the Creature Handler profession for the role of "the guy who brings pets to a fight". For the players who want to be "the guy who brings pets to a fight", they will each chose whether to bring creature pets or droid pets. Unless creatures and droids have very distinct roles in combat (e.g. creatures absorb damage but don't dish it out and droids dish out damage but die quickly), the two professions will enter a heated rivalry attempting to prove which one is more L337 than the other. In the end, quite likely, one will come out on top and those who still prefer the other will cry for nerfs.

In short: It is difficult to introduce a new profession that duplicates an existing niche in the game.

Which is a small price to pay if that is the case (class rivalry)but as you pointed out, it's solved by giving them distinctive roles.Look at mounts and vehicles. Did the CH suddenly go ballistic about artisans competeting with their businuess? (Alright, so truth be told, I didn't look for it, so it might have happend, but I don't think it did )

Done right, it shouldn't be duplicating the niche in any other part than the fact it's a pet class. I'm prett sure TH mentioned it in the ID thread; Something about making droids different similarly to the way mounts and vehicles differ.

Many appologizes everyone, but due to RL problems I won't be around for a few days. I've had one thing after another this week, but yesterday took the cake in the all time catergory of 'what could go wrong next'. I'll be back at full strength after this weekend.

I hope it's nothing tooserious and I wish you the best of luck. Hurry back, we got a few things going on around here right now!

Peoplehave claimed that because I am the Correspondent I need towatch what Iwrite as an individual. I have to disagree.I am a Community member and the Correspondent - not the Community puppet. If I quitstating my own feelings and opinions in the matter then I am no longer the person that was chosen for the position. As I've stated before, this was a big concernof thecommunity before I became Correspondent.

Please understand, I really am not saying that you need to "watch what you say". My sole point on this matter is that as long as you continue to do this, the same things are going to keep happening. It's like the whole DC issue. As much as we don't want it to be true, it is. There are somethings you can't do anything about, no matter how much they suck.

Sintrosi also stated that he supported something that many in the community did not and stated that what he believed and what he represented were two seperate matter. He remained unscathed becasue he did not bring the issue up any further. The difference is that I have chosen to speak my mind on the subject where everyone can read it.

That's because Sin has a better understanding of human nature than I think you do in this case. I'll say it once more, and then I promise I won't bring it up ever again. By doing this, you are feeding the mob mentality and fanning the flames for the conspiracy theorists. While the amount of vitriol they spew at you will wax and wane with the heat of the discussion, it will continue to happen. So please don't act surprised and wounded when it does. You can't change human nature, Don Quixote. Sancho signing off.

On a side note, am I the only one who still has problems thinking of Sin as a "he" and a "him"?

I totaly agree with this - some people seem to think we want droids that are CL 25+ and will be the next big thing since the CH, but what would be more fitting is to have lots of unique CL 10 utility droids and combat droids, with CL 15 combat droids for the master elite professions.

concentrate on what the newDEs droids can bring to a group rather than the individual, and the only professions that really should be able to control more than 1 droid is the Droid Engineer and the Squad Leader.

Give the DE and the SL the ability to control units of droids (based on group members droids not just there own) and assign formations for them - the larger the formation the more damage the group of droids will do.

Sorry about havin real life problems, those suck. When your up your up and when your down your down.

Keep up the good work Drashk.

I think the malcontent has more to do with frustrations with the devs, your just easier to blame!

Drashk,

As you have already stated, you are just in the line of fire. Unfortunately that is part of the job and as you stated you knew this full well when accepting it. My only concern is that you have the ear of the Devs and that is a powerful thing. Everyone has an opinon what I would hope is that when your personal views conflict with the communities that you inform the Devs that this is your opinonnot the communities. If you do this then you are doing your job in the highest calibur in my eyes.

As to your job, I understand that the Devs can not always hear every thing we say, but when we have other professions coming to our boards and tell us that we are getting the short end of the stick that is something that should tell you that maybe you should be alittle more bullish with the who you are in contact with. We have been crying foul for so long, that it seems we are falling on deaf ears. Promises are made and broken with such disregard that the most loyal community has broken down and turned on itself.

Granted some of our brothers and sisters in the other communites were in as bad shape, although never as bad as ours and they have recieved fixes. Bio-Engineers and Chefs are the first that come to mind and they are just as critical to game balance as you stated. Bio Engineer provide the pets that Creature Handlers continue to "unbalance" this game. (Level 10 pet with 2K - 5K Hams, Balanced?) Chefs will now create food stuffs thatwill increase character HAMs, giving the user an advantage in combat and crafting. How is our borked droids unbalancing? NO ONE USES THEM.

What we ask is this, if SOE can not keep one promise and just fix the bug issues that are in the game now what can we expect from them? They give us unwanted content, ignore our requests for repair and in my personnall opinion, could care less that the Droid Engineer profession would break to the point no one plays it. Defend them as saying, Oh you should see what they are planning, I say fine SHOW ME!! Test center is there for a reason, use it. It was stated that not all additions to Test would not go Live, but we can not even see that. Plans are good if you plan on using them, as far as I am currently concerned there are no plans for us. If there are I challenge the Developers to prove it to use and show us these plans.

Untill then, I would suggest that anyone above a user of the game to carefully consider the impact their hollow words ring in the soon to be empty halls of Droid Engineers.

Drashyk, you probably wont read this as it’ll be hidden in a mass of other posts on this thread but I just wanted to say, not that I think you do an excellent job, which I do, but that I can see you do an excellent job, beyond the call of duty.

Thank you flower, thank you very much.

I hope, selfishly, that you’re strong enough to keep up the good work.

We may be batted from pillar to post by SOE but DE’s have been blessed with the finest correspondents on the boards.

Mch luv

Cass

BTW If there was a correspondent pay-pal donattion scheme, I’d buy a t-shirt

Thanks to those that have voiced their support. I really hate the timing of what is going on, especially with THs latest round of responses. I only have a few minute left before I have to jet, but I wanted to let everyone know that I am trying to keep track on ever thing, in the best manner that I can.......

Dang it, Drashky-doodle! You're supposed to be attending to RL. Get back to it you SWG-addict!

My support for you is, of course, unchanged. I think you're doing a bang up job as the DE Correspondent even though we disagree on how to bring combat droids into SWG.

See ya when you get back and best of wishes till then.
