Thread: Real Life Strikes back....
- My views in no way reflect what it is that I represent for the community. I was chosen to be the voice of this community on the Correspondents fourms and have done the best job thatI can. I have brought up topics that concern the communities wishes, listed issues that would go against what the community would like to see, and I've argued against topics thatwould have a negative impact on our Professions. I havemade it very clear in this forum what I think of as a Community member and whatI believe in as the Correspondent.
- Peoplehave claimed that because I am the Correspondent I need towatch what Iwrite as an individual. I have to disagree.I am a Community member and the Correspondent - not the Community puppet. If I quitstating my own feelings and opinions in the matter then I am no longer the person that was chosen for the position. As I've stated before, this was a big concernof thecommunity before I became Correspondent.
- People have stated that my 'Title' has sway over the community. If this really was the case, wouldn't there bea lot more people in support of the idea? The only influence that I have seen the glowie name haveon people is that their posts start out with ' I respect your opinion, but I think you are wrong.'
- People have stated that my 'Title' has a sway over the DEVs. If this really was the case, the Droid Commander issue would have never come up in the first place. GnomeAd's 'leeked' post shows that I stated in the very beginning of the entire situation that this was not what was wanted. If the Correspondents really had the sway that so many think that they did, then there wouldn't be a DE/DC/Cert debate at all.
- Sintrosi also stated that he supported something that many in the community did not and stated that what he believed and what he represented were two seperate matter. He remained unscathed becasue he did not bring the issue up any further. The difference is that I have chosen to speak my mind on the subject where everyone can read it.
My goal from the Droid Commander support threads were not geared at making people see my point of view. The threads were geared towards making people aware of what it was that they were arguing against. To many times have I seen people use arguments such as 'Well that is stupid' or 'I don't like it', yet they never explain what it is about the idea that they don't care for. I had a heavy background of performing arts in my 'younger' days and it really brought out the critic in me. I have yet to see a really strong argument against the DC profession that lays my concerns to rest. I challenge the Community to look at the arguements against the DC profession, instead of those for it, and findargumentsthatare not based on -
- Pure emotions - I hate the DC idea - Its stupid
- Augments that don't consider balance - Everyone should have a droid, no matter the level- The movies show that anyone can use a droid.
- 0Additional cost - Give all Master boxes a cert - Give X existing profession this ability
SWG is a game first and foremost. The biggest concern that the DEVs always put first is balance. We see this time and time again in each and every Publish. Creature Handlers have been the focus of many Publishes and Patches not because they are the DEV favorite, but because CHs are/were the one profession in the game that can be stacked with another profession to give the biggest combat advantage. Now that CHs have been rebalanced with the rest of the game, the Combat System is next to be tricked out.
The biggest reason that Droid Engineers haven't seen the attention that we so desperately need isn't because the DEVs don't like us, its because Droids have such a huge impact on every game aspect and it takes a considerable amount of time to write code for a game this large. Many people don't realize how much of an impact that Droids have everyone and what small changes here and there to our profession could do to the rest of the game. Can you imagine what the game would be like if there were no Medical Modules, or what will happen if a module like the Enterainment module was introduced? Those are major game play changes and need to be fully thought out.
The DEV that handles our profession is considered the glue that holds the entire crafting community together. If it is crafted item, chances are he has had a hand in making it work. Publish 6 is the first time that 'our' DEV has had the chance to work on a few DE issues and what was the first thing that was fixed on the Top 5 issues list? Cluster modules. I've seen a few examples of what the DEV that handles our profession has done and all I can say is **edit**.
I'll work on getting the list together before next week is in full swing and hopefully we can see a hints at what there is instore down the road, so that everyone can make decisions based on information instead of speculation.
Until next week, I bid you all adieu.

The one anti-DC argument I can think of not based on those three is this:
A Droid Commander profession will compete with the Creature Handler profession for the role of "the guy who brings pets to a fight". For the players who want to be "the guy who brings pets to a fight", they will each chose whether to bring creature pets or droid pets. Unless creatures and droids have very distinct roles in combat (e.g. creatures absorb damage but don't dish it out and droids dish out damage but die quickly), the two professions will enter a heated rivalry attempting to prove which one is more L337 than the other. In the end, quite likely, one will come out on top and those who still prefer the other will cry for nerfs.
In short: It is difficult to introduce a new profession that duplicates an existing niche in the game.

I'm sure you've already seen JEST3R's signature, right? He signs his posts with either his correspondent name (for correspondent views) and his PC name on his home server (for personal views). That little factoid is listen in his signature, so it's always present at all times.
With a nod to JEST3R, maybe you might consider doing the same?... just to make sure you cover your butt on hot topic issues. ![]()

Wait a minute, wouldn't a MCH / MDC be able to pull out three pets and how-ever many droids? I would think it more likely that there will be people who get both professions, just so they can have their own personal little army following them around. And for that matter, they'll probably go Imp, and get a squad of stormtroopers or a few at-st too... That person would be VERY powerful. Unless of course they made it an either/or proposition.
I know for sure that right now, I can have one droid and one pet out. That makes me effectively into three medium strength attackers, If I use a probot and a level 10 pet... All by myself, without the additional CH and DC skills. Think what I'd be like with me, three pets, and three droids, plus two At-St... that makes9 sources of damage for my enemies. Watch out. I'll be a whole hunting group by myself.
